Model updates!

Despite the move, I managed to get a wriggle on with some stuff before shipping out in December, and have been painting away since...

I have some terrain boards that have been landscaped and glooped (6 square boards about 18 inches to a side, IIRC), and just need painting and tittivating. I’ll bang up some photos of those at some point.

The miniatures all need properly basing still, and I’ll stick in a self-defence disclaimer that the sunlight was a bit bright so it doesn’t really show them off to their best advantage… I’ll try to work out a better way of photographing them… (and the US ones in particular could do with being a little closer...)

The US forces:

The Russkis:

Some (completely inappropriately painted) airsupport:

The panel “lining” doesn’t look quite so stark in real life, honest. There is an A-10, Flogger, Apache and Hind waiting to be done…

Some buildings I’ve put together – these are mostly model railroad kits I think. They all need the grounds doing, obviously! I was planning on doing these at the same time as the terrain boards.

An overview of the main house (which reminds me of the one in COD MW...):

Some other angles of the grounds:

Some other buildings:
The pathway needs drybrushing to finish off on this one, as well as the grounds being painted/vegetated:

Smaller house:

There’s another one that’s mostly built and primed I need to get on with as well, but no photos of that at the moment. I’ve also got a couple more unbuilt but these four will take up enough space on the board for now.

Some vehicles:

Some random scatter terrain that needs basing:

That’s it so far – some tanks to follow at some point…

Those are great - the scale on the model houses looks spot on.

They're off a bit - they're German HO scale kits, so around 1:87 scale. The soldiers are 1:72- close enough for government work, but it's noticeable if the leeetle men are stood next to the doors of the houses...

Good work! Have you bought any more models while you've been there?

I've been building some scenery ready for when I can play WH40k again. House is upside down while the loft is getting sorted.

Some minor progress on the boards and vegetation. The brown boards will become green...

Good work!

Still need to finish our Death Guard & Dark Angels armies at ours. Harrison picked up a Start Collecting Tau boxed set last weekend so we're busy building those too.

Despite all this we have to do I'm still looking at the new Kill Team and Adeptus Titanicus sets...

I have somehow managed to end up in a 5th Ed D&D game at work - I'm enjoying it so far, but our group is too big, I think ( 7 + the DM ) and so getting a regular timeslot has been a nightmare, and the sessions end up too short, I reckon. We're all pretty much newbies, so it's taking its time to get into the swing of things. A few sessions in and I already want to go back and start again, with a character I made when I understood the rules.

I'm sure there are some tabletop RPGers around here!

7 plus the DM is a lot. I think up to 4 works best.

It works quite well as a 'sitting around a table with a beer' activity, but i think with that many people you'd really need experienced players and a DM, which we do not have :)

Keep meaning to post the scenery and WH40k armies we've been putting together. I'll grab some pics this weekend.

As for your D&D group problem, simply change the time that you play and don't tell the 3 people you don't like as much.

Well, actually, the rest of them do keep saying "We've had to cancel, no one can make it that day". I think they might be doing that to me :'(

Just started learning to play this over the last few weeks with a friend and we're really enjoying it. Caught the bug I think as we've decided we need bigger armies and more rule books and stuff.

We've played a few games and we're getting to grips with the basic rules, now we're looking to build slightly bigger armies and work in the more advanced rules.

I've knocked up these knifey bois too, first miniatures I've painted in a long time. They're messy but I'm happy with them over all.

Yeah that’s the rule book that come with that set.

Just got Kill Team delivered this week, was out of print for ages. Worth it for the scenery alone. I’m hoping the rules will be easier for me and my boy to get to grips with.

We got the next kit up, normally £90 down to 75 then we split both kits so I've got all the space marines and he's got all the death guard. £43 ish for 22 models

Still don't know how to make the edge lining look any good, considering just not doing it.

Built the rest of them last night inc. a mad cool Captain and a standard bearer. Slightly dreading the amount of painting I have to do but I've got an aerosol base so once I get into it I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

It’s very easy to get bogged down and the pleasure of painting them becomes a chore. Just do things in batches... and try not to buy more before you’ve done what you already have (like me).

Try dry brushing your edges to highlight, takes a little practice to get the technique right so practice on spare bits first. Ink washing is another ‘quick’ win. Load of tutorials online.

Took pics of a few 80% finished Plague Marines, kept their scheme in keeping with their Death Guard heritage :nerd:

Oh Wookie, a pin vice is a good way to bore out the gun barrels too. Always looks better than painting on a a black spot.

Yeah, just a cheap one like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20pc-MICRO-D ... 3583714723

The plastic (or even metal of older miniatures) is so soft it quickly gets the job done.

DIdn't get as much done as I had planned this weekend but did finish all the buildings from the Kill Team set and put together the Skitarii Vanguards. The buildings are really well moulded, loads of detail inside and out.

Right here we go...

Assembled Skitarii (Start collecting set & the 10 Vanguards from the Kill Team box)
