Glue the pages together, then cut a hollow in the book and use it to secretly keep stuff in or as a gift box. With all your friends, you have 100 years worth of boxes, there.

If everything is wearisome hassle, don't do anything then.

This. Also, if one is a bible or a prayer book keep a gun in it, and then if you are ever about to be executed by gangsters or terrorists ask for a few moments to make your peace with God and then shoot them when they least expect it.

Why not rub the book covers in herbs and olive oil and drape bacon down the spines. Place onto a roasting tray for 20mins at 200c. Allow them to rest for 10 minutes before serving them to yourself.

No, I want a completely effort free way of making them no longer be in my house. You know me well enough to expect that sort of question!

If we had some sort of annual setting-things-on-fire-in-the-back-garden tradition you could get rid of them that way.

Just paid £17 to ship a game to the US. Thought it would be about six quid, with insurance and tracking, etc! I'm skint as it is, but I really don't want to ask the recipient to cover any of this, as they'd essentially be paying double for the item and defeating the purpose of our trade...

*sigh*

I have now managed to knock a bowl of noodle soup all over my computery area. There was steaming red liquid everywhere. :'(

I think I'm going back to bed. Bollocks to today.

Apparently, selling the position of "Bridesmaid" to people isn't a good thing. Huh.

I decided today to get up and go straight into college, no making myself lunch or anything. Getting to the subway at 7:45am instead of 8:15 meant substantially less people on the train (though I still had to stand) and also arriving in college at 8:20am which gave me time to buy some coffee, sit down, cool off after the brisk walk and as a result I was bright-eyed and bushytailed for class (the teacher of said class goes very quickly sometimes and is unforgiving so firing on all cylinders helps). I came out of it thinking it was probably the best class I'd ever had with that teacher.

After that, though, my friend was feeling sick and decided to go home and sleep, which meant lunch felt a bit quiet without her jokes.

After our afternoon class was complete we go with the teacher to the computer lab to do a quick assignment... however, another friend waylaid me saying she wasn't going to go because she didn't see the point? This lead into a very long conversation about how she is thinking about dropping the course, as she's found she picked the wrong friends on the first day and has ended up 'friends' with the disruptive chatty young girls in the class (I may have mentioned them before) and they're really putting her off. I tried to give her a pep talk and she says she feels better but after over half an hour two classmates of ours wandered past and asked if we'd finished the test in the computer lab already. Test? What test?

It was only a little quiz, but we rushed in and finished it (our teacher jokingly scolded us when I apologized and explained we'd been upstairs talking) and then got on the subway and went home.

However, I'm now a bit a upset when as I find out more and more people are pissed off that the disruptive people (this is an immersion course, so in all sign classes you are meant to be voice-off, sign language only) who whisper or openly talk in class. This is hugely disrespectful to our Deaf teachers and also getting in the way of other people's learning... one girl is always asking inane questions, and her friend thinks she knows it all and corrects people: today, she interrupted someone talking to the teacher saying she was signing 'angry' instead of 'sleep' (I was next to the other person and she had indeed signed 'sleep'). The teachers are aware of this behaviour but seem unable or unwilling to do anything about it, though one has asked them in the past, 'do you want to leave? stop it or leave,' but that's as far it's gone.

Ugh. My friend quit her job and is using the money she saved to come on this course (sound familiar?) and the thought of her being so put off by other idiots spoiled my good mood.

I have heard it's not uncommon... there's a much higher level ASL student going to another school in Ontario who posted on another forum complaining of students in her classing doing the same thing, and the teacher likewise seemingly incapable of dealing with it.

Even if the whispering, texting, chatting and otherwise annoying stuff in sign classes stopped, there'd still be the incessant raising of the hand to be the centre of attention/correcting other people to disrupt our two voice-on classes.

Random fact - since the year 2000, the Thames Flood Barrier has been closed (ie. made to stop London flooding) 75 times.
The last time it shut was in March 2010, and it hasn't needed to shut since.

"the law must not only apply to people whose views are "favourably received"."

I think that's the right decision.

Although Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe seems to condradict himself:

Quote:
Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe criticised the decision which he said failed to take into account the district’s diverse community. “I think the company did the right thing sacking him” Mr Sutcliffe said. “I’m sad the European Courts have decided to overturn the ruling because it’s not reflective of the make-up of our community where we want to have tolerance of all society. It will re-open old wounds that don’t need to be opened.”

Yeah, I read that, and was a bit "Oh, my. MR SAD FACE" and then I rememebred I only seem to use the google one nowadays as it is both on my phone and if I'm at a PC, gmail is generally open, as is G+. I think google currently do the best "all in one" package for calendar, email, chat and social thingy.

Well you'll just have to talk to Gaywood with Skype instead, as that's what they're replacing it with.

God dammit, now I'm designing a MUD architecture in .NET. Stopitstopitstopit.

Called MUD.NET but pronounced Midnight, which is what the LPMud I played/coded for at Unu was called.

Interesting to see a breakdown of costs from British Gas:

So everybody bitches about how much money they make, but they only take five percent when the government take more. Hmmmm, say I.

I'm fairly sure that 10% that goes to the government gets ploughed back in to the energy network, for instance keeping nuclear reactors working and subsidising green energy. Could be totes wrong, of course.

Also, is that 5% profit before tax, or are they lumping the corporation tax which everyone else has to pay into that 10%?

Also, that also seems to only be for gas. On the electricity side it would look rather different, seeing as they're vertically integrated and would include the profit made on their purchases from themselves as a "cost" at topco level.

The world is officially broken. Lousie Mensch says "Nadine Dorries has demeaned the role of an MP"
