At the cottage, a couple of references were made to not being able to post jokes without being jailed, and I wasn't 100% sure what was meant, so I've just looked it up.

Fucking hell. What the buggeration is this country coming to?

Quite. Whilst I think there's a need for laws against harassment etc, it's pretty clear that these cases don't fall into these categories despite the unpleasantness of the views.

But then, these laws are too widely drawn to prevent frivolous cases: it has been over ten years since a student was arrested in Oxford after telling a mounted policeman that his horse might be gay. At least on that occasion it was rightly laughed out of court, but should never have been an issue in the first place.

That balloon jump was properly amazing to watch. It was almost unbearably tense, for a few moments I had the sickening feeling that things had gone badly wrong and I was watching someone die, such a relief when he got control again. Can't wait to see the rest of the footage from all his suit cams and stuff.

Lovely Google Doodle today on their homepage of little Nemo in Slumberland to celebrate the late, great Windsor McKay. Keep clicking the tabs and let the lovely scroll of animation unfold.

I always loved the bit in The Simpsons when Homer gets a second job at the Kwik-E-Mart, and nods off behind the wheel and has that delightful Slumberland-esque moment of his car becoming a bed carried by angels under the benevolent gaze of the moon on a beautiful ornate lamp-posted highway.

*Sigh* Classic Simpsons. Won't see moments like that anymore.

Seconded - I actually felt sick with nerves when he jumped and couldn't think about anything other than what if I'm about to see someone die on almost-live tv. Yikes.

But jeeeez it was absolutely amazing! And the view from the balloon was incredible

The episode a day or so before was a 2010 one where Bart tries to ruin Homer and Marge's marriage by playing them off against each other. He also tries to make the town collapse by using the abandoned 1920s-era subway system. While not to the same level as the trampoline or the boy scouts, it wasn't bad but was also downright worrying in the bleakness of the humour.

The rag story completely undid all that goodness, not helped by being followed by The Cleveland Show.

I honestly think that they should have canned regular Simpsons episodes years ago, and just done two or three one-hour-long specials a year. Treehouse of Horror, Christmas and maybe a Summer one.

I guess that would have given the suits heart-attacks though.

There's still the odd gem of an episode, and even in the crap episodes, theres usually one or two good jokes, but its a lot thinner humour-wise.

Its also a lot less grounded in reality. Its like the Treehouse of Horror is seeping out into the rest of the Simpsons universe. Which kind of makes the Treehouse of Horror kind of pointless.

That episode was fifteen years ago, rather terrifyingly. And was season 9, which is around when the show started to decline in my book too.

YAY!

Just managed to buy 2 tickets for The Stones on 26 Nov at the O2. Mrs Caveman is ecstatic; she's wanted to see them for at least 30 years and most certainly for as long as I've known her. :)

Good old Amex!

Totally none of my business , but i did see a post on another forum that said tickets for this were something like £380 + a booking fee ?

If so I trust your Amex is a shiny metal colour (unlike mine)

That's the deal which includes life insurance too, aimed specifically at the Stones' fanbase.

Well, £248 each mate, but then, like I say, Mrs Caveman is utterly overjoyed. I know it's a lot of cash, but I spend £8/day on fags, so that's about £240/month to kill myself. :belm:

As for the Amex colour, it's a bog standard Nectar one mate, not even a "normal" Amex but the el cheapo one. Still, it gets me around £500 every year in Nectar rewards. :)

For the first time in 18 months, I am beholden to nobody. I can do whatever I want and not get any grief or guilt for staying out late.

I'm going home to veg out on the sofa, watching football and avoiding booze.

The first thing I'll see when I walk in the door is the matching case of wine that I didn't take to the cottage. And it was all so very tasty...

Make sure that the Graves is a few degrees warmer, and decant it an hour before you drink it.
