Holy crap, I've been doing some research for a friend who's kids want horse riding lessons for Christmas. The place rated as the best riding school nearby charges £33 per half-hour, plus £2 helmet hire for individual lessons. (and they won't let you take cheaper group lessons until you can basically control the horse on your own) 70 quid an hour! And we complain about the price of video games.

Yeah, my neice has decided she wants to "do dressage". I'm not sure her parents realise how much it is. I think that girls often work at the stables in return for lessons or something. last tiem I went riding, we called them up and gave them £18 and went for a walk around the lcoal roads. it took about an hour.

Interestingly, it very often isn't.

EDIT: Or maybe you can have it in your mouth, but don't swallow. I can't remember.

Don't try this at home. I don't miss having to look through the liquid nitrogen dewars for cell samples. That was horrible.

Interestingly, it very often isn't.
I've watched a guy dip his hand into liquid nitrogen. For an encore, he froze it and dumped a lump of solid nitrogen onto his workbench.

Do we? I thought it was pretty much universally acknowledged that games are good value for money and it's a pretty cheap hobby in terms of £/hour entertainment?

It depends if you play them or not.. I've lost track of how many sealed games I own. :(

Happy Birthday, Mali! Were you aware you shared your birthday with HNBBttrree, who lists as his occupation 'Home Repair TV watching Frisbee Golf - Frolf Windsurfing Dumpster Diving'? What a fascinating sounding chap.

Thanks. Clearly, HNBBttrree and I are cut from the same cloth.

If you get the chance, drink "I hardcore you" from Brewdog. Jesus wept it's immensely tasty. Absolutely divine.

Don't go straight from having them fitted to your 11th birthday party and try eating Ritz biscuits.

Thanks everyone.

My mouth now feels funny, rather than painful. I've got to back in a fortnight to have the rest put in.

The orthodontist asked if I'd be happy with photos of the inside of my mouth being used for teaching purposes. I'm vain enough to have agreed.

I remember my teeth just feeling really tight when I had a brace, if that makes sense. Pretty strange. Good luck with it :)

The worst things are a: cleaning inbetween them.
b: all the annoying little elastic bands you have to keep your mouth together (or was that just me)
c: When it comes to taking them off the orthodontist having to stand on the chair to get more force to yank them off.

Good luck Kern!

I heard on the radio that the bar in question said they'd stop putting liquid nitrogen in drinks from now on.

Sweet. I wonder: when I mash someone up, can I avoid punishment by saying I won't dump anyone on their head again?

Ahhh.. so it was probably the expansion of gases that burst her stomach, rather than any freezy business. I learned science.

I've been signed up for charity work at work. We're going to some inner-city school tomorrow in Leeds and doing a "careers talk" with some kids. Not legal careers, but just general fucking careers. Like "professional footballer" and "vet" and stuff. I have to do research. Why did I agree to do this? I don't even know if I'm allowed to get out of work to do it, actually. I assume someone has told my boss...

My desperate attempts to make more room in my retro gaming corner now involve velcroing consoles to the TV.
This is a foolproof plan with no drawbacks!

Dunno, and no. I'm going dressed as Jimmy Savile.

You only need a CRB if you're working regularly with children. Like, working in a school is your job/part time job/etc. I'm going in for one morning, and the teachers are going to be there supervising.

My advice is going to be to avoid general fucking careers because "Tube sites" are killing the industry. And then I'll pass it on to a colleague who will talk about becoming a doctor.

One of our mates does risk assessment for plumbing (legionella, that kind of thing) and he's CRB checked. Required for most schools to even let him on the premises. Though I suppose that's because there was a chance he'd be on his ownsome at times.

Someone wanted to view our house at 6.40 this evening. Bit of a bummer I thought, since I'd have to eat late, but eh, if they buy it it'd be worth it.
