Do we have to do spoilers for random stuff in the game?

So far I have stolen a chopper from a gang of bikers, ridden it up a mountain, found a dam, climbed to the top, fell off the top, died, stole a car from outside the hospital, got in a massive chase with the police while I was in a slow minivan, lost the cops by driving it up to the top of a hill via a dry riverbed, parked it on the summit, saw a posh building complex which seemed to be some sort of shopping centre/art museum in the distance, drove my minivan off the top of the hill and rolled it all the way down to the posh bit, which had lots of nice cars outside so I stole a Pagani Zonda thing, evaded the cops in it by parking in a bush, drove it home and parked it in my garage.

All that started because I was trying to get back to a place where I saw a pushbike.

I should probably do a mission at some point I guess.

They've got those random event things from Red Dead in, I see. I drove by some woman getting thrown into the back of a van and gave chase only to tip the van over a bridge and explode the van. Then I drove into the pumps of a petrol station and exploded. Not having much luck in the car I went home and jumped up the steps jauntily, tripped up and smashed my face. Smoked my kid's bong. Went bed. Maybe tomorrow I'll have better luck.

WTB said he was, but he just exited out of the revolving BEEX door again :)

I'd loved to have got this on a console, not least because I'd be playing it right now rather than waiting, but I just can't be doing with 20FPS and thereabouts in the year 2013, with input lag that's going to be measured in hundreds of milliseconds.

That's just not a fun way to play a game for me, you only need to watch the gameplay video at Eurogamer to see how much of the time both versions spend on the wrong side of 25FPS and down towards 20FPS.

I put up with it on GTAIV, but I'm not doing it again.

If it was Flashback in 20FPS I'd agree with you, but given that it's meant to be the biggest thing ever, I kinda understand systems struggling a tad.

But then I had Killer Instinct on SNES, so I know how to slum it ;)

Obviously one of the first things I did when I was given the reins was steal a 4x4 and go off-roading (I took a photo but my phone was too low on batteries to throw it in my Dropbox, so I'll upload it tomorrow).

Then I fucked a stripper.

I finally got home last night at 8:30pm, stuck this on about 8:45, waited 15 mins for it to install, started playing. At this very moment, the girlfriend decided to play with the kittens IN FRONT OF THE TELLY whilst talking to me about all the wonderful things she's been chatting to people about on Facebook. At 9:20, realising I had no idea what any of the tutorial pop-ups had said thanks to the verbal Facebook updates and the kittens jumping into my view, I switched it off.

Might try again tonight.

I tried for maybe 15 minutes to get to the top of a mountain in a trans am thing, failed and cheered myself up by punching a hiker off a cliff. Shortly after that I was killed by a wild animal of some description. I also went on a ten minute chase around the airport before finally finding a light aircraft to make good my escape. The plane seemed to fly really, really badly but thinking about it I guess that is related to my character's skills. I've not got to the hillbilly type fellow yet who I think has flying skills.

One annoyance so far, the parts of the map I uncovered while exploring weren't saved after I fell off the dam. That's a trifle harsh, looks like i'm going to be quick saving every 5 minutes :(

If that's the only problem you have when you're bought back from the dead, I'm not convinced I would describe it as "harsh" :)

Sure, but we are talking about a game here where you die and then wake up in hospital totally fine ;) It doesn't encourage exploration.

I find the fact that you get different stations in different areas most annoying.

I like that you lose reception in a tunnel, though.

The pedestrian chatter in GTA3 was a real highlight, I really enjoyed the humour there.

I got quite bored of GTA4 quite quickly, and I thought that my gaming days were over (once I finally finish Mass Effect 3) but GTA5 is really tempting to me right now... despite not having either the money or the time for it.

Nope. I think only first-party MS games use it at the moment.

Let's have a moan - it's only right that we do, after all:

1) Ian dislikes that a kill is signalled by the screen tinting a bit bluey. I looked for ages in the menus to turn it off but it has elluded me.
2) This really is just more of the same but better, right?
3) It takes a while to swop characters. This isn't too bad given that it's loading up a whole new area an' all but if the characters are right down the street from on another when they're not doing a mish it's somewhat irritating. They swap almost instantly when on a mish in the same area from what I can see but I don't know what the boundries are and when too much distance is too much. No doubt we'll find out.
4) I dislike the circle for changing the radio station but accept it. I am annoyed that you can only skip forward a station with one single button (and I can't even remember what that button is at time of writing) but can't skip back if, say, I pressed the wrong button. Which I did. A fair few too many times last night.
5) There's a lot of buttons right?

I'm only jesting though cause my only real complaint is really just No.1.

Oh, I don't like Traditional GTA aiming though. Aiming assist is virtually the same as the traditional but better. I don't know if Free Form (or whatever it's calls) does a snap shot. I might give that a poke about.

Also, I've experienced no noticable slow down (which is the polite way of avoiding any tedious talk whatsoever about "Frames" and "Frame Rates") so far but then again I haven't found a plane yet (Hnnngh. I want a plain. A PLAIN I TELLZ YA. Plane.). Actually, I had a wicked collision at a junction and was shocked how awesome the car just spun round wildly. I got T-Boned and flew into another car which spun my wreaked car around faster and t'waz smooth as silky smooth milkshake poured over a silky smooth bottom. That's not a great analogy, but it was smooth with no noticable slow down despite the speed of the collision, traffic and bits of stuff flying out of stuff. Like, polygons and stuff.

Here's the Beex Rockstar Crew I created for Max Payne 3. It should work just fine for GTA Online on either platform:

http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/crew/be_excellent

Ironically it only has Alberto and me in it, and neither of us were on the forum at the time.

Yes, there are a load of buttons, it's a bit fiddly. I'm sure I got told there was a button to lower the roof in a convertible, but I can't find it.

On the slow down, I think that is a personal threshold sort of thing, I notice it a lot even when just driving around it's very obviously dropping the framerate. This in on the 360 version which is supposed to be better than the PS3 in that regard. It's not gamebreaking for sure, but if it is the sort of thing that bothers you, then you'll notice it here, they haven't totally fixed it.

Left or right on the D-Pad while stationary to drop the top on the convertible, I think. It's also left or right on the D-Pad to change the station hence my post!
