Mark my words. This is your next favourite game.

It won RPS and Eurogamer's game of the show at Rezzed.

It looks like this:

It is incredible.

I'll write more words about it later. There is an RPS preview here, and I hear a demo is on the way.

Best game about killing guys ever.

Edit: and why not try KEYBOARD DRUMSET FUCKING WEREWOLF, the first game from these two guys collaborating together.

Ha! It looks cool. Reminds me of Die Hard on the NES (but in the very very best possible way, because that game was fucking terrible). I'll keep an eye on this. PC only?

Hotline Miami, PC – £4.18

Edit: Mac version is confirmed, probably a while after launch. Consoles later, too.

This is on Steam now. Just bought it. Not played it yet, but I just watched a trailer for it and noted the download size was a mere 270-odd MB. I'm getting an original GTA nostalgia vibe.

Er, sorry! I only gave it a quick blast. Will be playing more at the weekend I reckons. But! It seems really rather fun. The music is excellent and it controls really well. Satisfying to play, quick-paced. It's shaping up nicely.

YES! It's finally out on PS3. Also on Vita.

Also, also, it's one of those Cross-Buy things so you get it for both PS3 and Vita in one! BOOSH! Good old Sony.

I'll just pop into this room and smash a golf club on your head, throw it at your mate with the shotty and kick his face in while he's stunned, then I'll burst next door and pump two rounds into a fat man; someone runs through another door but I'm too eager and shoot the door knocking the door into his face sending him flying, I run through the door just as he's getting up but I've run out of shells so I throw the shotgun into his face, pick up his knife and jump on top of him while he's down to slit his throat. Then a dog savages my face.

Love it.

Hows it control? I have the mac version, and I really can't get on with the KBAM controls. Worth keeping at it from a design standpoint, or does the joypad controls keep the game's soul intact?

Post subject:  Re: Hotline Miami

I'm playing it on Vita and I find it controls great. It's set up like a twin stick shooter, so left stick moves and right stick aims, but it also makes decent use of the touchscreen by allowing you to scroll around to look and tap on targets to lock on to them. After a brief bit of adjusting to the new controls (I also played the PC version originally), I'm preferring it using console controls now.

Yon PC* version was updated last year so that you could use a joypad. It made it much more betterer :)

The last boss (panthers/ninja/guy) trio, in particular, tipped over an edge into frustrating for me.

Bring on the sequel. In the mean time, I think I'm going to replay and tick off some masks/trophies/score challenges.

He was starting to fuck me off, but then I cracked what you needed to do:

- First cutscene, do not lock on to any targets. Grab weapon and swing wildly at the panthers till they're despatched. They take two hits each.

- Second cutscene, lock on to boss's sidekick whilst the text is still onscreen and immediately lob weapon at her once the cutscene is over. Try to time it so she's reasonably far from the boss.

- Third cutscene, lock onto boss whilst text is still onscreen, then grab weapon and run to avoid fire. Lob weapon or move in and slash when he goes to reload.

It's not too bad once you've done that.

Anyway, fucking amazing game. I've started playing again to sweep up some of the Trophies, which is not something I normally bother with in games.

I think all of the bosses have a trick to them, but they are all doable without knowing the trick if you are good enough.

The guy in the motorbike helmet:

If you lock onto him with your aim, it's much easier to dodge his attacks.

Edit: It is totally worth finding all the secrets and solving the puzzle.

The enemy movements are somewhat randomised, certainly too much for you to rely on memorisation. Quick thinking adaptation is a much more powerful tool.

Quite. Also there are so many different ways of clearing an area. If you hit a brick wall, change tactics.

Indeed. If stealth isn't working, go loud. If loud isn't working, switch to stealth. Try exposing yourself briefly to lure people into an ambush. Move through the rooms in a different order. Barge into a room with a knife and turn three guys into hamburger in a half-second. Soak in the soundtrack and the neon.

What's the matter?

Don't you like hurting other people?
