Quote:
Pantani matched Lance Armstrong on Mont Ventoux, leaving the field behind. Armstrong eased and appeared to allow Pantani the stage victory. Pantani said that he felt insulted by the gesture, causing bad feelings between the two which were exacerbated when Armstrong referred to him as Elefantino (Italian for 'little elephant')

I am still annoyed over this.

In the regrettable absence of Pinot, i'm going to say Bardet will do very well. He can go up and down, and is pretty strong so far this year.

David Millar's Time Trial film in on amazon prime for a fiver. It follows him through his last season racing. It could be pretty good as he's often good for a quote. I will watch tomorrow

Oh my (for the chalk)!

And I love that Tour of Britain route. Guess it is too complicated these days, or just better from the route-challenge point of view to have disparate stages, but there is something purist about cycling round a contiguous loop of some kind.

Here we go again. Blood doping scandal

Author:  MaliA [ Mon Mar 25, 2019 23:16 ]
Post subject:  Re: Tour de France 2013

http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/for ... avourites/

Quote:

3. Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ)
Overview: After a couple of seasons in which he has shaken off the pressures of racing in his home country and found success in Italy, the Frenchman returns to the Tour this year for the first time since 2017. With Il Lombardia, Milano-Torino, the Tour of the Alps, and stage wins at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España in his pocket, hopes are high.

The start to the season has done little to discourage that. Fifth place at Tirreno-Adriatico was a good result on a parcours light on mountains, while the real highlight was his overall victory at the Tour du Haut Var. It was perhaps symbolic, as he beat Romain Bardet, the other great hope to end France's long wait for a Tour winner, to the top of Mont Faron to win the final stage.

Highlight: The Haut Var win was his first on home soil since 2017.

Lowlight: Key domestique Georg Preidler has been suspended after admitting to extracting blood as part of the doping ring around Dr Schmidt.

Up next: Volta a Catalunya

This year, lads, this year.

I went to the criterion racing in Birkenhead racing night. It was brilliant. Women's race was 45 minutes around a 1300m circuit and men's 60 mins because women clearly cannot ride for 15 minutes more without a fainting fit. Go and watch it, you are inches from masses of bikes in close formation doing 30mph.
