So it's quarterly update day! This means using Test Drive to try out all the cars I don't own. First up, wingless sprint cars at Eldora! These are meant to be the hardest dirt cars to drive - I'm trying out the lower-powered one of the two.

I thought iRacing was supposed to be realistic? The crash sounds in this are appaaling, almost as it some Drunk Somalian guy was singing into a microphone.

Experimented with streaming with mixed results. Can't stream 1080p60 properly which is no surprise, but I can't get my overlays working either. :(

My best finish in a rallycross feature (2nd) also includes a very close finish and a great use of the joker by my opponent, but I had just enough momentum to hold onto P2.

"Herbie Goes Bananas"

My first win in the rallycross discipline - I won both my heat and the feature race in my first try at Iowa Speedway this week! Only took seven events in total.

Well, it's that time of year again: the 24 Hours of Daytona. Starts at 1:30pm Saturday, finishes 1:30pm Sunday. My old team has reformed and we'll be trying not to crash the #70 Wernä Digital eSports Racing Ferrari 488 GTE (chassis name Gretchen) for a full day.

I'll probably try streaming it unless it destroys my PC.

Server threw a wobbly and we didn't get the Grid button so had to leave the session and rejoin. By that time the race had started. We started from the pit lane and then swapped ends at the bus stop trying to negotiate GT3 traffic. 11 mins pit stop and we're back out, I'm assuming dead last. Nothing to lose from here!

We've recovered well! Up to 15th in class with 10 hours and 328 laps gone. We dropped to dead last (54th) overall and now up to 27th. Top ten GTE finish feasible!

I had to short pit my second stint about 25 mins early as I was getting progressively worse frame rates.

Going to sleep now and may not be needed for the rest of the race. Will find out when I get up.

Up to P14 though!

We were up to 10th in class at one point, but contact with another car ended those dreams. Finished P14 in split #11 of 17.

Put this together today. It's reasonably well-made despite being at the cheap end of the scale, although the shifter plate is a bit wobbly. Not sure what I can do about that.

Post subject:  Re: iRacing

Is it wobbly due to poor construction, poor materials or poor design. All can overcome!

Author:  myp [ Sat Feb 10, 2018 17:35 ]
Post subject:  Re: iRacing

Think it's the design. No matter how tight you tighten the screws, it doesn't feel on properly. I've come up with a temporary solution for now.

So, I'm finally all set for the Daytona 500 tonight. I'll be streaming it from my perspective here if anyone's interested in watching some of it (It should last 3-4 hours so I'm not expecting anyone to sit down and watch the whole lot unless you're some kind of masochist):

Hmmm, can we embed Twitch streams? I'm sure I've seen it before but I can't remember how to do it.

I think we got rid of it because they autoplayed (and made a noise).

However, if you put your twitch channel name in your profile it'll appear as a notification at the top of the forum when you start broadcasting.

As indeed it just informed me that Myp was playing PUBG (when he should be looking for work ;) ) and I was wondering what the fuck was going on.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup cars actually have a restrictor plate for Daytona, Talladega and Indianapolis to reduce horsepower as they are so fast in a pack draft.

You can get up to 180mph on your own but up to 210mph in a pack. It's crazy as you're flat out all the way around and you have to wait for people to make mistakes. It's like a game of high speed chess.

And you'll need matched perfect and staggered special tyres to pass on the outside of turn 4.
