Only insofar that you need an iRacing sub and the track/car content.

He created the team on the iRacing website and put the driver team together.

Does he race?

He drives the car in practice and helps build the setups, but he acts as race engineer during the endurance races (for the duration ).

Always the way. The drivers could get some sleep, but the engineers had to be awake for the duration.

Tbf I only got 3 hours sleep between my 1:15am and 7:40am stints.

TBF that's all I get on a good night/have a six month old.

I would say the biggest difference here is the tyre noise. The engine sounds pretty much the same (apart from the real car noise being more muffled). Overall pretty accurate.

iracing has better frame rate than real life

Immensely frustrating end to a highly entertaining race last night. Some were on a one-stop strategy and others like me on a two-stopper, made for some really good racing and I was on for a top 5 until a caution came out with 10 laps left - then this happened at the final restart:

We have a team TeamSpeak and he was the only driver from our team not in it, annoyingly. Otherwise I would have told him I was making a run up the outside. He'd already pissed me off as he blocked me trying to get my lap back during the pit phase when I had much better tyres.

It's not often a race makes me angry but I had to walk away from my computer for an hour or so in case I said something I regretted. The guy in the Milky Bar car is from Apex as well, to compound the issues. All three of us were on for a top 5.

Yeah, because from what I can see.... SIM racing is dirt cheap!

It's expensive if you think of it as a game, not so much if you think of it as a hobby. Even less so if you compare it to real racing (whether you can or not is arguable).

The only things I plan on upgrading soon is buying a couple of proper racing steering wheels that I can attach to my G27 with an adapter. They will be about £50-60 each (one for NASCAR and another for sports cars).

My long-term plan is a proper cockpit with direct drive wheel but I don't have the room at the flat. Plus it's £1000 for the wheel I want. Then there's bass shakers you can put under the seat to simulate vibrations etc which aren't too expensive. I draw the line at a full motion cockpit though. They start at £3k and go up to £10k.

I broke through to 2,000 iRating (oval) last night. To put it in perspective the best iRacers on the service are between 7.5-10k iR, but I'm now in the top 6,000 out of 37k active drivers. I'm on course to reach my goal of 2,500 iR by the end of 2017.

It's the (full-length) Daytona 500 next week to mark the start of the new season of the NASCAR iRacing Series.

I turned left in my car today. I'm the No.1 iRer.

I've got both racing wheels now, but sadly the extended paddle shifters and miniplates haven't arrived yet, which is a shame as I was hoping to be able to use a full-size wheel in the Daytona 500 tonight.

Gutted. Got pole in split 4 of tonight's Daytona 500, led for 70 laps, was cruising toward victory with help from my teammate when on the last pit stop I went in too hot, hit him and we both got damage and 15s stop and hold penalties. Ended up finishing a lap down in P7

70 laps sounds a lot, though I suppose it depends how much time each lap takes. How long were you driving for all in?

Race was 200 laps. Took a shade over 2.5 hours and that's quick for Daytona.

That's actually less than I expected. I'm not sure I could focus on a 'game' for that amount of time at once, especially something that requires that level of concentration. Fair play dude. ☺️

We only had two cautions so a lot of green flag running, hence quick lap times. With a lot of cautions it could have easily been four hours.

Was a very hard race though, especially in VR. I'm shattered but still full of adrenaline. Especially as I got involved in an incident on lap 2 that wrecked half the field - not my fault as the guy behind me tried to overtake under the double yellow line, but I still feel bad that so many races were ruined. Took me a while to recover and get back into a good rhythm. Felt really comfortable at the front because my teammate was shielding me from the rest of the field behind. Then I go and mess up the last pit stop. Gah

Oh well, Atlanta next week. A track I actually like racing at.

How could you hit him in the pits if he was behind you? Did he put the lap before?

He was in front of me on the track, but a lap down. He got screwed in the previous pit stop because he was getting damage fixed and then a yellow flag came out and he couldn't get his lap back. So he was 7th and protecting me by letting me run behind him to save tyres and fuel.

I must admit, this thread is compelling reading. Anyone who didn't know could easily believe it was real cars and not a simulation.

I'm glad! Sometimes I wonder if I'm boring the tits off everyone, but I find it exciting and like to talk about it.

Not at all, I do find it interesting. I wish I could get into a game and commit like this so perhaps I'm a little envious? Either way, keep it coming. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Ah yes, I see where I've confused matters. For the majority of the race my teammate was behind me, but for the penultimate stint he got in front during the pitstop phase and I was behind him (but still in P1 as he was a lap down) as we came into the pits for the last time.
