I still have 2 weeks of solid training.

Self doubt is creeping in.

One week to go, and I'm okay. I have covered the total distance twice now and just done 10km at a bit quicker pace than I needed to be at to hit two hours. 10km seems easy now. Will do another 10km Thursday and then race.

Just finished my ‘peak’ training week. My tri is in 3 week.

I have just done 13 hours of swimming, biking and running this week.

Just done my quickest 6 miles in years.

Started riding again today. Felt good. I did feel a bit dizzy due to the meds I'm on so I'll make sure to avoid any roads.

Came in a sniff under two hours for the half marathon, so that is a decent enough morning's work. The two hour pacemakers started 3 mins in front of me. I caught them at the line. So I spent the race chasing a man with a flag on his back.

Hopefully Jem is doing well, today, too.

There's a pan flat half marathon on my doorstep in September. It is £30. Half of me says "do it and go for 1 hour 50mins".

£30 isn't too bad. Club races were about £22-25, last time I looked. Great Run significantly more (because they like money). There's a good race finder at https://www.fetcheveryone.com/race.php, just in case you want to check for a cheaper one in the area.

Also, Mali, not that this should affect our pride or anything, but she's (from memory) a high jumper. So, you know - not in her usual sport and all that.

To be fair to both of you, she is categorically not middle aged either.

Yesterday I finished Staffordshire 70.3 Ironman

As you can see I am so chuffed. It is the one I failed to finish by 1 second last year.

I was not happy with the swim as it was 6 mins slower than I wanted. I was in for a great time, till I got kicked in the face.

We wanted to take Darwin on a steam train yesterday, but it wasn’t running as some plonkers were doing an Ironman competition around Chasewater and the surrounding area. Russell said ‘bloody Kovacs’, and lo and behold, it WAS you.

Grumble grumble.

I think 1:43 is safe at the moment. Went out last night for first time in a month. My interest dwindled.

You set off too fast. If find the whole thing is a lot more enjoyable if I focus on running negative splits and sprinting over the line rather than dying over it.

Serious consideration* is being given at an attempt at watching the sun rise at Tynemouth, then watching it set over the Isle of Arran.

200 miles on a bike with 17 and a half hours to do it in. The nod has been given for a new bike (n+1, bringing total to 8 plus tandem) to attempt this on, so I think carbon fibre and a 32-11 on the rear. I want it to be sub 9kg. Titanium would be ideal. It would put me over my current self imposed budget (unsure how little bike I can get for £1.5-2k).

The issue I will have is the loneliness of 100plus mile training rides. Which is what is putting me off. I don't think I want to get up at 5 on a Saturday, spend 10 hours suffering on my own and then get back to go to sleep because I am fucked.

A big yay...

Well I am chuffed since my last blood test. I have dropped 3 kilos.

My HbA1c has dropped from 72 to 57 mmol/mol (don't ask me what it means but normal none diabetic is 48). it heading in the right direction. I was a lot closer to normal a few years go, so heading back there.

My cholesterol is better too, need to more oily fish and olive oil.

It is mad to think last blood test I was in the middle of half iron training. The only difference is that I am in a better place mentally and eating better.

it is true what they say, you can't out train a bad diet. So swapping the hob knobs for walnuts..

Well done mate, that's great.

Back on the 'wagon' myself, having put on a few lbs of late (literally just a few lbs, nothing major) but I want to finish off what I started last year.

People keep saying I’ve lost a lot of weight. Even people that have seen me as little as a month ago. But the scales aren’t showing that.

Perhaps I am losing inches and gaining muscle.

Almost certainly, with all the walking you've been doing.

When I was marathon training I didn't lose weight but my entire shape changed.
