Came home to the front garden all dug out (ready for new drive). Steps to the house have gone though, so I had to climb into the front door!

My phone just made a really loud train sound, and the National Rail app is flashing up a notification that a train from Glasgow to Birmingham is delayed. No idea why it thought I'd want to know this, and I'm not sure how this knowledge will help me now.

Can anyone recommend a good domain name registrar? I've used easily.co.uk for years, but they seem to be going pear-shaped, so I'd like to transfer my domains to somewhere more reliable. Are 123-reg.co.uk any good?

I use 123-reg and they are fine. Full disclosure: I used to work for them, but that was over a decade ago.

I have both 123-reg and 1&1 up and running (I should probably consolidate, but that takes effort), both seem fine in that I never talk to them and they never talk to me, it just does what I expect.

But do they do it well? Ahhhh!!!!!

They are pretty good, though, and very quick to answer any queries and help when needed.

I have heard many bad things about UKHost4U with regards domain names. I cannot comment on their hosting abilities. I use 123-reg for domains as they do that well. Their hosting leaves a little to be desired, however.

I’ve just checked my emails and the domains I have are definitely registered with UKHost4U and they’ve been fab, and really helpful with what we have set up.

I used A RUDE WORD in a support email to UKHost4U after they let someone else cancel one of my domains and they booted all my stuff that day.

Oddly, I was referring to myself.

Not necessarily. Like anywhere some people will have good experiences and some bad, but we’ve personally not had any issues, and they’ve been helpful.

But then, Russell hasn’t (so far) self-sabotaged anything we have hosted ;)

Yep, they even applied an offer about a free domain for life that shouldn't have applied when I moved hosting packages on an old domain out of the goodness of their hearts, plus phone support when I've needed it.

123-reg are OK, but good luck if you ever need support for anything.

I personally prefer Namecheap - excellent support and generally cheap. I have >50 domains with them.

Having just fished around a hundred of the things out of our drain via the inspection chamber with rods and a pigtail, I can confirm that, despite the manufacturers’ assurances, panty liners should definitely NOT be flushed down the bog.

:spew:

Had to give up before the blockage was completely removed as I don’t want to lose the pigtail somewhere out of reach, but luckily we’re covered for unblocking on our British Gas plumbing and drains plan.

Turns out the blockage was about five doors down from us. British Gas sent a couple of Dyno rod (a British Gas company) geezers to have a look at me blockage this morning, but after poking around a bit, they said it’d have to be escalated to United Utilities, gave us a reference number and told us to call them if we hadn't heard from them in a couple of days. Then, at about 7pm a couple of UU guys turned up, had a gander, said it could be a blockage further down the road and would investigate. Sure enough, they found it outside number 41, did their magic and very soon it was, ‘No shit, Sherlock,’ in the inspection chamber and our drain levels returned to normal.

Pretty good service, I think.

I think a lack of functioning plumbed sewage takes you firmly from first into third world problems.

Nah, I don’t live in India and have to shit behind a hedge, I’ve got access to a lovely plumbing infrastructure that just got a bit constipated.

A neighbour was giving away a chest of drawers, so we took it, but it was painted really badly so I sanded it back a bit, but I didn't use any gloves and now my Galaxy S9 isn't detecting my index-finger prints so I have to either enter my PIN or use the iris/face scanner which takes a noticeable fraction of a seconds hesitation before it unlocks

Cash machine only gave twenties so I was cunning and put a note into the ticket machine at the station hoping to get some change as well as a new bookmark.

Realising what I was up to, the machine punished me with £16 in 50ps.

Moral: stick to contactless.

Our preferred local chippy has just changed hands again. It's only a couple of years, if that, since the last lot moved in and dragged is into the 21st century by allowing on-line ordering (but not delivery) and contactless payments. Luckily we knew it had changed hands, so i took cash with me on Friday night, which was a good thing as there's now a badly hand written note on the back of the till monitor, bearing the legend, 'CASH ONLY.' Luddite.

We think he's on a looser anyway. He's moved from the chippy on Beech Road because it's now full of cafe bars and take-aways and he's lost a lot of custom in the last couple of years. And what is he surrounded with in his new location at The Baths Supper Bar? Lots of cafe bars and take-aways. Eejit. He's a miserable scrote as well.

We had an ocado delivery man call us up before the slot (we were at the pub when he called) and say "can I deliver early" and we were like "well sure but you're gonna have to wait til we get home."

Then when we got home before the delivery slot he thanked us, for having our shopping delivered early. You're welcome ocado man. You're welcome.
