The gang of idiots and sociopaths who manage our office have taken away our kettle and left us with nothing but one of those fancy hot water taps. And there aren't any normal pencils in the stationery cupboard anymore - just plastic propelling pencils.

All we have here is a boiling water tap. I don't do hot drinks but people say it's just fine.

We have a boiling water tap. Ok for instant coffee, but crap for tea as it isn't quite boiling.

They put those in our place last year, they do cold water, sparkling (cold) water and boiling all from one tap.

My brother also has one in his kitchen, its a mixer tap, you have to press a button that is way beyond the reach of small child for boiling water.

Was discussing them with my kitchen guy and he said they are more cost effective than a kettle, not so sure in our case as my wife has a cup of tea on a morning and at night and I use the Nespresso machine.

That seems like a pointless blanket statement; it's going to come down to your exact usage. I boil water in my kettle once a day so there's no way it would be cost effective to keep a load of water on the boil in my use case. If you've got people in your house most of the day drinking loads of tea or whatever then yeah, I could see it.

They don't store hot water. It's a high speed electric heater that heats cold water on demand. Great for one cup at a time

Edit: Ignore me. I'm wrong

Yeah, they're more efficient than a kettle because you're only doing the amount you need.

Yeah, I was thinking about the system I saw in Holland. MrsPaz's aunt lives on a new-build estate near an old landfill. They collect the methane from the landfill and use it heat water, which is pumped to all the houses as mains warm water (about 60 degrees c I think). This is warm enough for underfloor heating and baths etc. It is then boosted by an injection heater to provide boiling water at the tap.

When our zip tap (or whatever it's called) at work broke, we had to use kettles to make our tea and coffee. That was shit, with one kettle between 30-odd people all wanting a hot beverage during a 30 minute break.

We have quite bad coffee powder from a big tin. It's free.

We're only a small-ish facility, about 50 people total, and the vast majority take their breaks at the same time.

I picked the wrong time to come to the post office. Woman at the front of the queue is paying about 800 bills and getting her PIN code wrong repeatedly for each one.

Everyone in the queue tutting and even the post office lady has asked her if she can serve some other people for a bit.

I assume you could replicate this by only boiling the amount you need in your kettle?

(Which I never do)

Wouldn’t you bollock your kettle if you only needed, say, one cup of water boiled? Mine has a minimum level of “3”.

Mine has two, but their idea of a cup is a tiny bone china thing that nobody normal has drunk coffee out of in 30 years, so it's effectively one.

After the interview, I wasn't the number one candidate for a job I wasn't sure I really wanted anymore anyway. They want to interview me for a different position that I'm not sure I'm really interested in either.

Cor, I sound like a little git when I read that back :attitude:

Ask for a specific red. There are many reds that are closer to orange,. If you don’t have access to photoshop and a colour picker so that you can give him/her the Pantone/cmyk/rgb or hex code then find someone who can. Or say something like “I want it Signal red”, or “testarossa red” so at least he has a reference. Or look at car colours and give him the name of the car and it’s colour, like Jaguar Italian Racing Red. Or food. Pepper red.

Because of work I have my Google photos filled with cemetery stuff, like tombstones and old mausoleums. Google thought it was nice to give me a push notification to suggest to edit those photos into pop art colours, which seems appropriate of course.

My TomTom GO5000 from my work van takes HOURS to update via my laptop. I don’t understand why this should be. I got a new one for my birthday that updates wirelessly and it only takes a few minutes.

When approaching junctions, it would useful to know which road the 'road closed ahead' sign relates to before turning the corner and having to do an awkward U-turn.

It was clearly the road ahead, otherwise you wouldn't have been required to do a U-turn.

Came home to the front garden all dug out (ready for new drive). Steps to the house have gone though, so I had to climb into the front door!

My phone just made a really loud train sound, and the National Rail app is flashing up a notification that a train from Glasgow to Birmingham is delayed. No idea why it thought I'd want to know this, and I'm not sure how this knowledge will help me now.

Can anyone recommend a good domain name registrar? I've used easily.co.uk for years, but they seem to be going pear-shaped, so I'd like to transfer my domains to somewhere more reliable. Are 123-reg.co.uk any good?

I use 123-reg and they are fine. Full disclosure: I used to work for them, but that was over a decade ago.

I have both 123-reg and 1&1 up and running (I should probably consolidate, but that takes effort), both seem fine in that I never talk to them and they never talk to me, it just does what I expect.

But do they do it well? Ahhhh!!!!!

They are pretty good, though, and very quick to answer any queries and help when needed.

I have heard many bad things about UKHost4U with regards domain names. I cannot comment on their hosting abilities. I use 123-reg for domains as they do that well. Their hosting leaves a little to be desired, however.

I used A RUDE WORD in a support email to UKHost4U after they let someone else cancel one of my domains and they booted all my stuff that day.

Oddly, I was referring to myself.

Not necessarily. Like anywhere some people will have good experiences and some bad, but we’ve personally not had any issues, and they’ve been helpful.

But then, Russell hasn’t (so far) self-sabotaged anything we have hosted ;)
