I had my [email protected] email alias removed without telling me at the start of this month, and had to stamp my feet to get it back, as it isn't policy to give those out.

Effectively i was called a liar and had to prove that I had ever had it in the past by our "help"desk.

Losing your email alias has to be the quintessential first world problem.

I have reluctantly acknowledged that there's no point in having an Android phone and refusing to change from my Talkalot tariff (where every day that I access data in any shape or form I get charged £1 until the witching hour), when I can pay ten quid per month and get 1000 texts, 150 minutes and 500mb. I used to top up £20 whenever my credit got down to about £2, i.e. about once every six months. Bloody skinflint/billy no-mates was what I was. So I will now be able to Google things on my phone, but I'm damned if I'm going to sync my Gmail account on it .... just yet.

But ... £10 per month!!!111 :'(

The clip on my Nokia Bluetooth headset broke a few months ago, so I've been jamming it in my lug 'ole like Uhura, but it does have a habit of falling out at inconvenient moments.

I decided to see if I could buy a replacement and only came up with two suppliers. One sells a set of 10 for about £2.50, but all the reviews say they break after about two days, so I discounted that as a non-starter. The seconds offers two for about a fiver, but they come from abroad and the P&P makes it more expensive than just buying a new 'un.

I don't like chucking something away when it's still working, but I object to paying more than it's worth to be able to use it again.

Luckily, the rubber bit that holds it in place disappeared a couple of days ago, so I've felt justified in buying a new one.

For six and a half years (since we moved into this house basically), we've had a spare washing machine.

The reason for this is simple, the last place we lived in was rented and was unfurnished, it had a fitted kitchen with a dishwasher and a fridge unit, but there was no washing machine or fridge freezer, so we had to buy both when we moved in.

When we bought this house it came complete with white goods, so we left the fridge freezer behind in the rented house (it wasn't a very good one), but brought the washing machine with us (as it was a nice one), even though this house already had a combi washer-dryer installed.

So for six and a half years that washing machine has just sat in the kitchen and done nothing, as the washing machine that was already in the house has done sterling service. In the back of my mind I've always figured having a spare isn't such a bad thing in case the one that was already here ever breaks - but it never has.

A couple of weeks ago one of my mates said his washing machine was on the blink, so I said to him we had a spare one that he could take away for a modest amount of cash, 'It's just been sat there doing nothing for over six years'.

We agreed on £70, I helped him get it into the boot of his car, and off it went to his house, where he installed it and it worked fine.

SEVEN FUCKING DAYS LATER, our washing machine breaks.

Got a new combi washer dryer coming on Tuesday, £540 including delivery and installation, and disposal of the old one.

For fuck's sake.

Why are those bottles so heavy? Surely they're just wasting glass and losing profits, and they wouldn't have so many disappointed customers either.

They're still 750ml as well, so it's not even like they're trying to pretend they're a normal wine bottle when they're not, because they are.

Wine by the box is the way to go, then you can squeeze the fucking bag out when it's nearly done.

Glass bottles of things like lemonade aren't any thicker than a normal wine bottle.

Traditionally, fermentation of champagne occurs in the bottle which means it's dangerously highly pressurised, far more so than carbonated soft drinks.

Last time I checked, Lemonade was not the same thing as champagne. Strangely enough, putting a lower pressure thing in a bottle causes fewer issues than a higher pressure thing.

In a crappy mood. Was planning on working from home this afternoon on a complex spreadsheet that I'm finding it hard to concentrate on in the office, but I left my cell phone in a bar last night that doesn't open until after 4, so I'm going to have to stay here instead.
Doesn't help that relations with a close friend are still strained(mostly caused by me probably worrying too much about him and my attempts at being helpful being counter-productive), the weekend's still a long way off, and the tea in the office is still crap.

Of course, one of the worse things you can do when a friendship is going through a rough patch and the other guy is (probably genuinely) annoyed with you is to post innocent questions using the chat function on sinister Facebook and wait to see the 'read' notification and then immediately send something else. Got to stop doing that, concentrate on other stuff, and just let go and to give it time to pass. I received today a small gift from his holiday last month that he sent before a day or two last week before things went sour, after all.
