It can't be any worse than my upgrading to an iPhone 4 on day one, surely. Bar images on web sites perhaps not looking amazing.

They've offered a full refund if I send it back, or a £275 partial refund if I keep it. Even figuring I could perhaps make a bit of money off that, I think I'll send it back. I'd rather have what I originally ordered.

You seem to be making it out to be more of a problem than it is.

Not if he uses either of the browsers that have already been optimised.

How odd.

No, the opposite. Safari and Chrome support the full resolution, pretty much nothing else does.

The text you're quoting comes from various browsers, yes. The entire Apple suite of applications has been optimised. Third party apps are an issue at present, but I shouldn't expect that to be an issue for too much longer.

Safari and Chrome Canary are currently fine. If you want Chrome vanilla or Firefox then you'll see jaggies at the moment.

I can't say it's a problem, really.

Not that odd. I guess the fonts are rendered in the OS themselves at native res?

That's a long-winded way of saying "no".

You misunderstand. I hate jaggies too, but I haven't come across any apps I use that haven't been optimised yet. That's why it's not a problem.

Chrome Stable 21.x adds support, apparently.

I returned the one they sent, got a refund that took three days to process, and have ordered a new one. Should be with me tomorrow. But it's CityLink, so it won't be.

I didn't want it and despite owning the first two, I've never played them. Bloomin OCD.

I think older people do this to prevent unsteady walking through a moving/breaking vehicle. Plus there are signs everywhere on buses saying to remain seated until the bus has stopped, so they're hardly at fault.

I'm not from London or owt, but why does that make them lazy? Does the exit door move closer to their seat when the bus stops?

I've tried watching that but it gave me a headache! Was it just the episode I watched or does the camera always shake about a lot, and are most shots really close? It felt like everyone was right up in my face for the entire episode. Really stressful! It was good though.

It calms down a bit in the later seasons, but yes it is all filmed in that crappy "reality" handheld style.
The first season is also broadcast in slightly the wrong ratio, which is very annoying, everyone is slightly too tall.

The fact that I think it is one of the best series ever made and still watch it regardless of that is testament to how good it is. I'm a real finicky bastard when it comes to shit like that usually, and won't watch at all if it isn't right.

Post subject:  Re: 1st world problems

I'll have to give it the time then. I saw the film a couple of years ago and enjoyed that. Was that before the series?

Author:  Trooper [ Mon Aug 20, 2012 21:55 ]
Post subject:  Re: 1st world problems

The film was before the series. The film and series are based on the same book, but aren't related to each other, if that makes sense.

(apart from they have a couple of the same actors in, to confuse things further :))

I'm really tired after having to get three different flights home from our holiday in the US (we did 4 days in each of Chicago, Orlando and Miami), and my car is a bit dirty from being parked in an outside carpark while we were gone.

Oh, and get this - of the five flights we took, only one had the little individual screens on the chair backs, and even then there was only a small selection of channels (with their own scheduling rather than proper video on demand, FFS).

Yeah, but the fact that I spent almost all night awake thinking about work and losing people close to me, and that I am so tired it hurts to stand have their own message. It was only after Russell woke and I said I'd had an awful night's sleep that I checked the app (which, incidentally, always really does reflect how well I've slept. If I sleep through, it shows that. If I wake up twice, you can see that too. It's actually very good.)

GJ: it uses the accelerometer in the phone to sense movement, by placing the phone on the mattress. It's good to the point that if Russell and I each use it and one sleeps well but the other doesn't we have wildly different graphs as it doesn't pick up the other person's movements.
