I'm not convinced your cat management policy is in the middle of the bell curve, to be honest.

Alas, I am highly allergic to cats.

I called The Council and they are coming on 5th September. In the meantime, the war will continue.

I had a couple of rat problems in my old house. My old dog Spi was amazing at catching and instakilling them.

Is The Council your new name for Bert and Ernie? Aren't they a bit young to start training as ratters?

Or just a tallish bin with food in the bottom and non grippy plastic sides.

As with other humane mouse traps, this is only humane if you're aware you've caught a mouse...

Relatedly, my mother got a fantastic dead mouse collection.

Oddly enough a couple of months ago I watched a load of videos showing ratting. Absolutely amazing tbh.

You say that, but an old colleague bought a humane mouse trap (one of the 'they can get into the box but not back out again' types). Anyway, this trap was designed so that the mouse could chew its way out after a certain amount of time, which it did - but not before his useless cat had decided it was going to eat the mouse that was presented to it in a handy pre-boxed format.

So my mate comes home from work and there's his mouse trap with a little hole nibbled in one end, careering around his front room with the head and paw of his cat wedged in the other end.

SIDE STORY: The same guy got a teasmaid thing for his birthday one year (a group of us in the office bought it for him, as he always talked about how he wanted one). It was a small thing that you put on your bedside table. He was most thankful, and spent a little while going over the instructions and telling us how much he was looking forward to having tea made for him in the morning.

Anyway, that night after he got home from the pub where we celebrated his birthday and set up his new teasmaid, pressing whatever he needed to press to command it to make him a cup of tea one minute before his alarm was due to go off. Even in his inebriated state, he did everything correctly - except he forgot to put a cup in it.

One minute before his alarm was due to go off, his new teasmaid dumps boiling-hot water all over his bedside table, and - moments later - all over his arm that was hanging out of the bed.

Regular mouse traps have solved all my mouse infestation problems in the past. Killed 14 in the old house. Better than poison as you know where they have died. Maybe not suitable for the ultra squeamish.

Got a humane trap in the previous house but was a proper faff. Plus mice find their way back unless you drop them miles away, which is an annoyance. Fuck that mouse.

The one this morning was not dead. It was in the trap backwards. I had to have A Think.

Buy better traps.

Though once I had a mouse that did that. Was not pleasant. Cider bottle came in handy.

We had some in the loft of the house I rent. Couple of traps from Amazon sorted it out quickly. Will find you the link when I get home if you like.?

We had the council out and they said we were doing everything they would do.

Given my general high levels of squeam, I spent a fair chunk on an electric mouse trap that also disposed of the bodies to deal with some who'd scratch around in my loft.

Never caught a single one. But they also disappeared. They were clearly terrified of the death box and ran away. (Or someone else caught them first)

We see a mouse, occasionally. It usually appears late at night from the fireplace and wanders across the living room floor and disappears under the sofa. I'm sure I've seen the odd one out of the corner of my eye in the kitchen as well, but they skedaddle before I can be certain. This sometimes happens when I'm working away from home and Mrs. W texts me to let me know. I put semi-traditional traps out, i.e. they're made of plastic, not wood, but they've never trapped one. But after a couple of days they usually just disappear. This may be because next door's cats have caught them and taken them home as a gift for our neighbour. But we never see more than one at a time, and there are months, if not years between sitings.

What's important is to get mice clever enough to stay out of the rat trap.

We did not, this month.

Someone put squirrel traps up in loft at mums... they looked unsettlingly powerful with a very strong spring.

For mice, I used to favour the non-lethal form of trap but that has changed and I now prefer to just get it over and done with.

Traps have been empty for the past 2 mornings. Still a bit pongy though.
Internet on Monday!
Toilet still operable but not optimal.

The cable on my SoundMAGIC E10s has a break, right next to the plug, so I’ve lost one channel. I’m don’t want to bin them as I really like them. It goes against my ‘make do and mend’ principles not to fix the broken ones, but I need to either re-solder the existing plug or buy a new plug for them, both of which will be a challenge for my limited soldering skills and will probably require buying a suitable soldering iron.

I do have a second pair that I use, as Amazon sent me a second set when I complained that my order hadn’t arrived after 10 days, but I’d still like to fix the duff ones.

And my mini disk deck won’t eject disks anymore. Apparently it’s likely to be the eject belt that’s got a bit slack, so I need to source and fit a new one.

After switching from Venlaflaxine to Citalopram back in Feb I felt happy again. Well, maybe happy is a bit much.. Wanting to be alive rather than wanting to be dead is probably a fairer assessment.

However, over the past couple of months I have started to slip back to depression. I've tried being busy, tried being social, but none of it was working. "I know" I thought, "I will have the dose increased from the rather low 20mg I am taking now to 30mg".

It's taken me nearly two months to get an appointment with my psych. I have been seeing my amazing care worker, Joe, though and he put it to my psych about a month ago. The response was "You are already on 30mg I don't want to increase it any more". I figured I would wait until I went, then beg him to increase it to 40.

Any way, he does and I have a pack of 40mg. However, when I went to take one this morning in place of the 30 he said I was on I soon realised that they had 20 stamped on them. So I looked at the packet bag, sure enough "20mg Citalopram". That would absolutely explain why I have been so depressed. That left me in a predicament though, as I did not want to just double my dosage. So now I have to cut the 20 in my multi pack in half, then cut a 40 in half and take half of each. Bingo bongo, 30mg.

But yeah how bad is that? a psych who doesn't even bloody know how much I am taking.

More seriously, if your connection is fast in general and it's just these downloads specifically that are slow it just indicates that the connection at the TomTom end is shit.

I was wondering about them the other day as I've stopped using mine. We went to look at Quartz worktops for our Kitchen, the place was in a small industrial estate attached to a farm so quite remote

TomTom took me to around half a mile away and said my destination was on my left, there was a hedge on my left, so quick Google maps on my phone, banged in the name of the place and it took us to the door.

So we use phones all the time now.

I looked at their share price, it was 60 Euro in 2008 then by 2010 down to 10. Since then its floated around 9-7 Euro, which surprised as I was thinking their price would have dipped later when mobile date became cheaper.
