Yep, they even applied an offer about a free domain for life that shouldn't have applied when I moved hosting packages on an old domain out of the goodness of their hearts, plus phone support when I've needed it.

123-reg are OK, but good luck if you ever need support for anything.

I personally prefer Namecheap - excellent support and generally cheap. I have >50 domains with them.

Thanks again everyone for your helpful advice. I went with Namecheap in the end, and they seem splendid - thanks Jem!

(Now just need to wrestle back the £110 Easily owe me...)

Having just fished around a hundred of the things out of our drain via the inspection chamber with rods and a pigtail, I can confirm that, despite the manufacturers’ assurances, panty liners should definitely NOT be flushed down the bog.

:spew:

Had to give up before the blockage was completely removed as I don’t want to lose the pigtail somewhere out of reach, but luckily we’re covered for unblocking on our British Gas plumbing and drains plan.

Turns out the blockage was about five doors down from us. British Gas sent a couple of Dyno rod (a British Gas company) geezers to have a look at me blockage this morning, but after poking around a bit, they said it’d have to be escalated to United Utilities, gave us a reference number and told us to call them if we hadn't heard from them in a couple of days. Then, at about 7pm a couple of UU guys turned up, had a gander, said it could be a blockage further down the road and would investigate. Sure enough, they found it outside number 41, did their magic and very soon it was, ‘No shit, Sherlock,’ in the inspection chamber and our drain levels returned to normal.

Pretty good service, I think.

I think a lack of functioning plumbed sewage takes you firmly from first into third world problems.

Nah, I don’t live in India and have to shit behind a hedge, I’ve got access to a lovely plumbing infrastructure that just got a bit constipated.

Holmes is described as wearing an "ear-flapped travelling-cap" at one point though, so I'm taking that as a deer stalker, and anyone who disagrees be damned!

A neighbour was giving away a chest of drawers, so we took it, but it was painted really badly so I sanded it back a bit, but I didn't use any gloves and now my Galaxy S9 isn't detecting my index-finger prints so I have to either enter my PIN or use the iris/face scanner which takes a noticeable fraction of a seconds hesitation before it unlocks

Cash machine only gave twenties so I was cunning and put a note into the ticket machine at the station hoping to get some change as well as a new bookmark.

Realising what I was up to, the machine punished me with £16 in 50ps.

Moral: stick to contactless.

Our preferred local chippy has just changed hands again. It's only a couple of years, if that, since the last lot moved in and dragged is into the 21st century by allowing on-line ordering (but not delivery) and contactless payments. Luckily we knew it had changed hands, so i took cash with me on Friday night, which was a good thing as there's now a badly hand written note on the back of the till monitor, bearing the legend, 'CASH ONLY.' Luddite.

We think he's on a looser anyway. He's moved from the chippy on Beech Road because it's now full of cafe bars and take-aways and he's lost a lot of custom in the last couple of years. And what is he surrounded with in his new location at The Baths Supper Bar? Lots of cafe bars and take-aways. Eejit. He's a miserable scrote as well.

We had an ocado delivery man call us up before the slot (we were at the pub when he called) and say "can I deliver early" and we were like "well sure but you're gonna have to wait til we get home."

Then when we got home before the delivery slot he thanked us, for having our shopping delivered early. You're welcome ocado man. You're welcome.

The website I use to print off proxy cards for the card game I like hasn't amended its code to grab the images of the newer cards. Which is annoying.

I am now paying home insurance to two insurers until 5th Aug

Maybe I should have read the bit on my policy that says "Renews on 5th August".

Having said that at least it's done and it only cost me £20 extra. It is better than forgetting, then them starting a £440 policy.

That means I have only got BT and possibly the leccy and gas to go ! oh what joy.

The wireless headphones I bought recently work just fine but they don't have a built in way to check the battery level, and the phone doesn't show anything either.

I tried a few separate apps and they don't work either - in fact they tended to make my smart watch keep losing connection.

Shazbat! I got a new adapter and the fucking LEDs still switch off after about 30 seconds, and then randomly switch on and off.

I had a pair of pretty expensive of Senheisser infra red cans a good few years ago, when they were the latest thing, and it got to the point that the battery wouldn’t recharge. I found somewhere on-line that sold them and ordered one. When it arrived, I realised that the damn thing had to be soldered in and I didn’t feel confident enough to have a go at it, so I wrote to Senheisser about it and they said they didn’t have a battery replacement or fitting service, i.e. tough shit, you’re screwed, buy new ones. But I didn’t.

We have a thing I don't know the English name of, apparently optical fiber? Good cable thingy for internet and stuff?
We got a Vodafone all in one thing: TV, internet, landline phone
The phone had been broken for a while, we could be called but could not call out
so like an idiot on my day off I thought, let's try and get that sorted

Call Vodafone. Eh no both service numbers have menus with no landline options and no options means they hang up (?!!) so I decided to press 1 until I got a person but no, that just got me to a "type in the phone number you want to lock" so few more tries and I get an actual person!
Person: Vodafone has merged with Ziggo and landlines are now theirs not ours
great
Call Ziggo (who we left for being crap) Person: hahahaha no, you have no products with us, it will be T-mobile
great
Call T-mobile: Person is a nice friendly clueless girl with a script: try turning off the modem (duh) try turning off the phone (sigh) ok then I will reset the modem from here
Phone fixed (yay) internet gone !!!!!
dammit I hardly ever use that phone, it's been broken for ages I don't care, but internet please! on my day off! I was spending the day on the sofa with my Netflix and/or NAS
Girl: can you try it with a cable? NO I don't have a cable, the laptop is wireless, Steves Alienware PC is wireless, the TV is wireless I don't even have anything to stick a hypothetical wire into as the modem in the cupboard only has a cable for the phone and a cable for the TV. We used to have a little hub but there was no need for it as everything worked until 5 mins ago!
Girl: ok then I will make you an appointment with a mechanic
LIKE HELL YOU WILL! There is nothing broken but what happened when you reset the modem and I am not spending days without internet and good tv for an appt with a person I have to stay home for etc etc
So she went to talk to a person who actually knew stuff and they had just wiped our home network and the default was available with the password on the sticker on the modem
This all took me almost 2 hours!!
Anyway, the phone is fixed ...

Finished a meeting at work and arranged a quick follow-up with someone on the team for the 31st.

'See you next Tuesday', he said as I left.

Three hours later and I still can't decide if he knew what that implies or not.

I made some inquiries into Fibre to the Premise (on demand) This means your exchange is more than capable of the service and a 300Mb download speed, the kicker is you have to pay for the works to enable it. Costs are quite variable,

The difference is now there are companies doing this who can actually give you information, a few years ago it was just BT Open Reach who are pretty clueless.

So I applied online for the service, I was 95% sure it would not move forward as the cost is £120 a month (after you pay for install works) that’s double what it costs if BT offer it as an Infinity service

A few weeks later a get a confusing email referencing costs, but at the same time, there were no figures in the email that ended by telling me I would have to pay £250 for a survey to confirm the costs.

So, I call the company and the guy apologizes and tells me Open Reaches DB is crap and that I need to pay the £250 in order to get the right figure for any enabling works

At this point, I was 30\70 on if I pay the money just to find out, in the end, I forgot about it. Then yesterday I get another email apologizing for the lack of information in the previous one and telling me they now had figures

£9000 +VAT 8)

One of my mates said a friend of his had the same sort of cost, he kicked up so much shit with Open Reach that they did the work for free in the end, the difference is he was on less than 2Mb ADSL and I'm on 64Mb FTTC so not much point
