We only have 2 weeks until E3 kicks off.

Both Sony and Microsoft have said they will not be showing off their latest consoles - however Nintendo will have the Wii-U
and we should see some big game reveals or more info on games we already know about (BLOPS2 / Halo4)

I guess we may also see price drops or redesigns for existing consoles

What are your predictions for what will actually be shown ?

Timeline for the conferences is Microsoft on the 4th of June at 17:30 then EA at 21:00 Ubisoft at 23:00 Sony at 02:00 and Nintendo at 17:00 on the 5th

I think we're going to see lots and lots of apps and Kinect stuff for the Xbox. More apps than games if you will.

The WiiU will not be renamed. The WiiU will be shown to be under-powered compared to general expectations, with only-slightly-better-than 360/PS3 visuals. It will use a similar network system to the 3DS, with those annoying friend codes. A WiiU Virtual Console will be announced, with GameCube software said to be on offer. A drastic 'reimagining' of a long-running Nintendo games series will be displayed, to mixed reactions. The launch price announced for the WiiU will be equivalent to three hundred quid Sterling.

EA will charge you to watch them talk about FIFA and how it's completely different again and how every single player in it is now DLC or slightly reduced if you subscribe to FIFA premium.

Despite everything that has been said to the contrary, I think Microsoft are going to make a surprise announcement of their next console. There's no way they can fill an entire E3 with stupid apps. What more apps can they even announce? It does pretty much everything at this point. And I can't see them announcing any huge games because they're due a new console in the next year or so whether they announce it or not.

Anyway, that's what I have a sneaking suspicion of. They'll probably just go with what Runcle said.

I'm not very inspired at the moment so:

Microsoft: Xbox subscription thing plus some new contents
Sony: A new wand game and new games for the next gen
Nintendo: A redesigned Wii U with it working

I predict a load of boring bollocks with micropayments/dlc and subscriptions will taint anything half worthwhile from the big publishers.

I also predict I will care less than I ever have, except to be occasionally reminded why I now by cardboard boxes full of carboard, tokens and counters instead.

Yeah I read about that. Apparently it'll be free for Plus members and will mainly be PSX/PS2 games. That's according to someone on NeoGAF anyway...

I hope that doesn't stop them adding to their own PS1/2 back catalogue, or I'll be miffed.

I'd take it with a pinch of salt - it was just what someone said on GAF - apparently they'd read it somewhere or had a friend or whatever.

Hmmm. Wouldn't that either mean that OnLive would have to emulate those games on the existing Windows machines they're using or find a way to plug physical PS1 and PS2 machines into their infrastructure? I'm sceptical.

Valve will yet again fail to announce Half Life 3. Instead they'll announce they've bought somebody else's game again.

I can't find the post any more, but the guy said something about an existing infrastructure of PCs capable of emulating, rather than actual Sony hardware. Also, the rumour isn't necessarily "OnLive", and could be one of the other cloud gaming companies.

I didn't think PS2 emulation would be reliable enough to get away with actually charging people for it, but it has been a long time since I've looked into it admittedly.

Read an Article on Eurogamer about the possibility of Sony announcing an OnLive add on for the PS3 or for the PS Vita to allow people to play older games. This would be neat.

Also the idea that MS and SONY would have a two stream service for games. One based in renting it/buying it from the cloud but with the idea it would look and act like OnLive and the other one which was the normal console Disk or download version.

Be interesting if any of this cloud based gaming get pushed by them.

I think this is accurate. The E3 keynotes are about hardware, not software -- and at this late stage in the console life cycle, but with no new hardware ready yet, that's a fundamentally dull proposition.

There were rumors of an even more cut back 360 with apps as the main selling point (possibly even without an optical drive) - also in the US there is now the option to buy a 360 + kinect for the magic $99 dollars , however thats signing up so you give them $15 or something like that a month for x number of years (there are also rumors that this is the pricing model they may go for with the next Xbox)

** edit ** - the $99 360

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technology/ ... r-only-99/

Quote:
Microsoft’s rumored $99 Xbox 360 has just become very real. Naturally though, with a drastic price reduction there are a few catches. For $99 you’ll get a 4GB console along with the Kinect motion-capture sensor. The catch is you also have to agree to a two-year, $15-per-month Xbox Live Gold Contract. Just as with your cell contract, if you decide to opt out early, termination fees will run you anywhere from $250 to $12, depending on how much time is left.

If you do the math, after two years, this “deal” will cost almost $460, compared the regular purchase price of just $299 for the bundle and two years of Xbox Live at $59.99. Consumers who don’t have the cash on hand for the $299 bundle might be enticed by this offer, but in the long run, it’s not as cost-effective.

For now, this “promotion offer” is only available at Microsoft’s official retail stores, of which there aren’t many. It’s still unclear if the software giant will expand this experiment into its online store or other electronic retailers. Trying to capitalize on the same strategy used by cellphone carriers, Microsoft hopes this new promotion will entice consumers. But only time will tell if this experiment works.
