On the bright side, if you get that cable you can chain it down so it can't escape whilst you beat it senseless.

More likely I'll be found hanging from it after beating myself senseless with that sub-par Speccy keyboard.

Is that the mega-flat keyboard of which people were singing numerous praises on WOS a while back (and featured in Doctor Who the other day)?

I think they look horrible. I mean they look nice, but like they'd be horrible to use.

(Sorry to go off on a tangent in your thread Malc - also: welcome back!)

I keep on being told off for slagging it on the Mac thread. I can imagine it would be great for sitting on the sofa playing Speccy games on an emulator or typing an email. However it's bobbins for heavy duty daily use. It's like typing on a 48k Speccy but with hard keys.

A proper keyboard and mouse has been ordered.

I don't know how I missed this thread but my deepest sympathies to you and your family Malc.

Just assumed you were away from the forum due to your dad being ill, so sorry to hear about what's happened.

Post subject:  Re: Bad News

Well, My Dad had his operation today, and to be honest It's not good news.

They removed his stomach and replaced it with a bag, but they could not remove his tumour as it was too large and touching his heart and lungs. Apparently every time they tried they decided it was too dangerous to do so.

So he is in coma at the moment in Intensive care, He may not come out of it, and even if he does it's just a matter of time before the cancer gets the better of him.

I just want to utterly destroy something at the moment. My youngest kid is having a tea party this evening, and it's birthday tomorow, he'll be 5, with my eldest being 10 on Saturday. It's just so surreal juxtaposing the 2 things. I mean I was blowing up balloons for the party tonight, knowing that my Dad could die at any minute!

Sorry to bring this up, and I hope I don't bring anyone too far down, but it helps to type and it sure beats attempting to do any work at the moment (at least I am working from home I suppose)

Post subject:  Re: Bad News

Hi Malc,

I haven't really commented at all on any of the (considerable) bad news that you have received this year. This is because I have felt uneasy, as I'm not always the best judge of what's 'tasteful' or sympathetically written. In other words, I didn't want to say something stupid and cause any more upset or such.

But. You do have my sympathies. And whilst there's nowt I can imagine being able to do, if there's owt you can think of, please say.

I have one piece of advice: if you want to break something, do. When - and I am in no way attempting to say that this is comparable - I had my iPhone nicked at the weekend, I came home, picked up a broken old pair of headphones, and repeatedly smashed them against something until they were thoroughly wrecked. I then forced myself to go to bed. Anyway, the urge to break stuff is an entirely natural and human response. Fools might say that you're behaving like an animal - animals don't behave anything like that. It's a human response, seeking... an outlet, seeking justice, in outrage.

I recommend, in all seriousness, finding some old planks of wood or branches, going up the garden, and beating the fuck out of the ground. A bit like Basil Fawlty hitting his car with a branch. If the urge has passed, okay - but if it returns, don't be afraid to vent.

Erm. I'm not saying this would happen, but - better to let it out and just knacker some crappy old £5 alarm clock (or something), then bottle it up and maybe have some unplanned, unexpected venting tonight or at the weekend. You're only human, mate.

Post subject:  Re: Bad News

I didn't post on this thread before as I am fairly new and thought it would be a bit weird for someone you hadn't really spoken to to offer their sympathies. Your last post compelled me to offer them anyway. Stuff can be replaced, better it is broken than anything that can't.

Nothing I can say now will really help I fear. Just know that there are people thinking about you.

All the best to you, man.

The only thing I can think of to suggest is to go and have a walk or a drive somewhere... sit and look around at the world and think about everything. Or think about nothing. Things like this can seem to pile up all around you and a bit of time alone away from distractions works for me. I've done it myself and find that a bit of time to myself - not saying a word - can help me arrange my thoughts.

At the risk of adding to the people-you-don't-know-offering-you-sympathy weirdness, I'm really sorry to hear this, Malc. Life can be so shitty sometimes. I really hope yours becomes more pleasant soon.

My Dad has died, I guess as a result of the operation.

The positive thing I am taking from this is that at least it wasn't a long drawn out suffering.

But knowing that still doesn't make me feel any better.

No, it won't be any consolation, but it may be in the future.

I do not think that there is anything that any of us can say that won't sound terribly empty and shallow, but I, for one, have thought of you the past few days and I am thinking of you even more now. I am sure it is the same for everyone here.

I'm so sorry for everything you have been through these past few months, and only wish that we could say or do more to comfort you in these times.

So many cuddles xxx

The town picked up another semi-victory in VampireScum, along with (the now incredibly big-headed) Grim... who was the serial killer.
Rev Owen's running another game this week, if you feel like signing up for that.
There's a thread where everyone is trying to work out whether a dancer is rotating clockwise or anti-clockwise and see if they can alter it with the power of their minds.
Everyone hates Nintendo for failing to give them free stuff properly.
Probably lots of other stuff that I'll leave for other people to tell you about (because I can't remember).
