Have you got all 3? or just the first, it is bloody brilliant from start to finish.

I've already bought the second, no doubt I'll end up with all four.

Finished the 'Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass' (Gutenberg link). It's a pretty graphic description of slave life in 19th century America. He reserves his biggest scorn for the most pious, as they were often the cruellest.

Recommended.

Latest book I've read worth mentioning was Edward Abbey's "The Brave Cowboy". Seriously hard to put down thought provoking adventure story.

currently reading Rise of Neon (Neonomicon Vol 1) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rise-Neon-Neono ... B00AKTT13S, and you know what, it is actually pretty good. It could do with slowing down, and the amount of time a DI gets off while leading a multiple murder case seems a little incorrect, but the writing style is good, and the story pretty interesting, particularly if you know Manchester.

Hyperion Cantos finished. It were really good, though the last book dragged a wee bit. And they kind of 'did in the wizard' with regards to the Shrike.

I recently finished Born to Run by Christopher McDougall the other day. Really good read, both on the story of the race they took part in as well as the science behind running.

Just finished 'Trickster' by Jeff Somers.

Entertaining urban fantasy where people can use magic, but only by using blood.

Not DavPaz's friends.

You could give the Jack Daniels series of books by J A Konrath. This is the first one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whiskey-Sour-Th ... 00BBE4BFE/
Not really the same as Reacher but they're detective books and they're bloody good (and funny).

Or, if you've not read them yet, the Ex-heroes books are good (zombies and super heroes, and super heroes that have been turned into zombies). Here's the first one of them:

Struggling through the third book in the Painted Man trilogy. The first two were great, but this one seems very poorly written and very boring by comparison!

Me too (although I'm only 70% through).

I did find the Dama'ting and nie'dama and all that jazz a bit confusing, but I got the hang of it now.

Hate Reena with a passion though, although I'm not sure why. Well jealous of Rojer ;)

Am just waiting for the next book

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
think Arlen will end up batshit crazy chasing the queen around the core

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Although am not sure what I think of the coreling princes using wards against the humans, for some reason that seemed a bit odd to me

Just finished reading 'Redshirts' by John Scalzi.

Fabulous.

Very easy to read book based on the concept that a bunch of ensigns (in red shirts) on the flagship of a Star Trek style space federation start to realise that they get killed all the time for no reason, and decide to take action.

Also, I didn't realise a quote would show what's inside the spoiler tag, I can't believe I managed to delete it without letting my eyes focus :D

Just finished book 13 of the wheel of time. I love them!
I'm trying to get my hand on the 14th one, but It'll probably be a few days :(
I have really enjoyed them. The characters, the setting, everything.

If this last book doesn't live up to my expectations, I may go cry in a corner for a few years.

Ehh... I managed to get my hands on it a lot faster than expected. and I just finished it. (I've been reading it since 5pm yesterday (Almost non-stop)) They were amazing books, and Sanderson was every bit as good as Jordan in writing. There are a few things that confused me/didn't make sense in the end, but all in all it was an amazing series, one that I will defiantly be reading again in the future.
It kinda annoys me how many things are left unknown, and we have no idea what comes next.

And I completely agree with what Slightly Green said in his spoiler.

I read The Bubble Gum Thief last week - it was a "deal of the day" on Kindle and cost about £1.

It was really good - the lead is an FBI agent who suffers from anorexia, and beside being a good old detective / criminal yarn, it also gave me a good understanding of how horrific anorexia is. There are plenty more Dagny books, which I'm going to read next.

Read it, fuckers.

Oh, unless you've not read the Jack Daniels detective books, which are just as good, but with added funny, so read them first.

The Missing Postman by Mark Wallington was a pretty bloody good adventure story.

A friend has written a second book about being a tramp, walking from Cornwall to London. Find it here.

Quote:
In the summer of 2011, Charlie found the school he taught at could not afford to renew his teaching contract. With no job and no money, but suddenly all the time in the world, he decided to travel from Cornwall to London in a peculiarly old-fashioned, quintessentially English and remarkably cheap way – as a tramp, on foot, sleeping rough. The journey was filled with colour, surprise and danger, and a range of memorable encounters – from Stan who once saved a boy from being raped but whose homelessness stemmed from a paralysing addiction, to Ian, who lived in a tent on Parliament Square. With a striking mix of travel and current affairs writing, No Fixed Abode sheds light on a side of the UK few ever see from within.

Finished Anne Frank's diary, fucking hell. Incredibly well written for her age, enthralling and horrific.
If you haven't read it, I can't recommend reading it enough, as harrowing as it is as you get towards the end.
