No worries, Big Z. Wilko do a range of kits, all are pretty good, by reports, so you'll not go far wrong.

Ok. Because America does it OK, Borgo will do it better. Here's the first look at the 5% Three Cs American IPA. Straight out if the FV, this will bw bottled in about 20 mins. Boom!

More than usual, yes. It smells quite a bit.

You can find out for yourself, as i tithed this lot for the MeatUp. Watergate and 3C.

Oh, tired of the mess siphoning can cause, I bought a bottling bucket. This is a bucket with a tap and a spring loaded valve on the end of a tube. Add priming sugar to bucket, then siphon beer from fermenting bucket into bottling bucket. Leave to settle. Put the tube in the bottle, push and bottle fills from the bottom. Dead easy, and tidy.

A tale of two Brews. I'm drinking bottle number 3 of Borgo's 3C whilst wearing a Tshirt with Pinot on it that Kern got me. This is pretty much as cool as you guys can ever dream of. 3C is pretty good. I am proud of it. I prefer it to Watergate. Cras better like Watergate.

In the fermenting bin is 3C Plus One. I was going to call it 4C but 3C was a big enough in joke for me and I dunno if 4C is one better losing biscuit malt and upping the crystal AND swapping a hop. So, 4C isn't a derivation of 3C. And it isn't called 4C. It's callee Afterburner as that's what Chinnyhill suggested after I watched his Chinnyvision of the game.

Edit: it is also a fair bit stronger than expected

Umm. Due to child labour, during dry hopping, about twice as much citra and cascade was added to Afterburner. A very young sample might be available on Saturday, if I bottle wednesday.

Citra and cascade in one beer? I'm interested to know how that turns out.

Also, I'm trying to get a homebrew friend to try the experimental hops from http://stocksfarm.net/shop/

They invented Jester which is my favourite hop, beating out citra, but they don't sell it to homebrewers the dicks. I think it all goes into the m&s Jester single hop ale which is ace.

The 3C is pretty nice. American ipas use cascade and citra a lot.

They do? Not a combo I'd think works. Huh.

I am looking forward to getting some bines in the ground next year - and we'll have a dehydrator by then for other foodstuffs, so no worries about rot losses.

Cottage Brew 1:

4kg Maris Otter
500g flaked maize
275g crystal malt
45g black malt
355g sugar

40g brewer's goldto bitter, 20g fuggles to aroma
Intend to dry hope with Goldings.

1053 is temp adjusted OG. US04 yeast used
This is an Old Hooky Clone that I changed some quantities on. And swapped out a hop as i didn't have it.

Cottage brew 2 will be Watergate avain I think, as I know where I am with that.

Cottage brew 3 will be something decided later.

Post subject:  Re: Homebrew-me-do

Cottage brew 2 is sat cooling in the sink at the moment. It is a single hopped ale, Bramling Cross. Malt base was 5kg pale, and then some crystal and black malt because eveeythig is relative really isn't it and I was in a rush so didn't weigh it. 40g hops in at start of boil, 30g at end. Will dry hop with 30g.
Flund my hop bags, which was nice, as it keeps loads of gunk out of the pans.

Going to be a strong one it seems. 1061 OG so if it goes to 1.01 then it is 6.8%

Cottage brew 1 is a bit 'meh' but i need an Old Hooky to compare it to.

Cottage Brew 2 just been dry hoppes with 30g Bramling Cross

Cottage Brew 3 is on the go. 5kg Golden Promise, 175g crystal malt, 25g Citra in at start of boil, 35 in at end, and I'll dry hop with 40g.

This is not strictly home brew, but just knocked up this years batch of Quince Vodka :)

A Quince looks the same as a pear, but like sloes are not something you can eat from the tree. The texture is like a hard potato.

However adding them to booze with sugar in a jar gives you a superb liquor.

Colour is a golden yellow.

Not sure where you would get these from if you want to buy them, never seen them for sale, I have a tree in my garden that I planted a few years ago, bought from a place that specialises is big plants so its produced fruit since year one

Post subject:  Re: Homebrew-me-do

You can also poach Quince these were done in the Sous Vide for a good 12 hours, just the fruit and some sugar.

This time the colour goes more red, great on cereal or with a bit of cheese
