Nynfortoo, I kind of agree with his wife on some level. If you can say goodbye to the ace person he was and keep that great memory of him, and if the visits are upsetting and are not registering with him at all then I think for some people it can be the best, though I'd also say that you should definitely go and visit him if you WANT to.

Nah, I agree with her. If I visit, he doesn't know who I am, and has forgotten about me halfway through the visit (last time he started talking to someone else, thinking they were me). It just doesn't achieve anything other than upsetting me, and I don't like being upset because I'm a manly manly man.

Oops, I've made this thread depressing.

More awesome, please.

Haha - your grandad look like a quality chap, Meems.
Mrs. Grim... had a great-great aunt who lived to be 105 - she was born and 1898 and saw three different centuries, can you believe it.
The telegram from the queen was rubbish.

You don't even get a telegram anymore - just a birthday card with a photocopied signature of the Queen.

I told him he had best hold out for one!

I set up a telegram from the Queen for Mrs Squirt's grandparent's golden wedding. I dunno what the card they got was like, but I got an confirmation letter on Buckingham Palace headed paper, which was quite snazzy.

I can guess it's less than any price you've seen, by some margin.

My last photo competition entry was taken with a camera phone. I need this lens for my business, for taking high detail photos of stuff. Even so, my favourite lens is my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 It's hard to explain how lovely it is to go so fast, to take evening/indoor shots without flash etc.

Something to bear in mind, maybe, is that so long as you look after it, a camera lens isn't like a laptop computer, where nobody would touch it in four years time- they hold their value very well, and you could get most of your money back if you sell it on after a few years. About the price, It costs more at places like Warehouse Express than where I order from. I am getting basically USA price. Second Life is paying for it anyway.

I'm just going by Amazon's price. I thought they were about a grand, but I must admit I've tried not to look into new lenses, because I'm broke.

The f/2.8 is about that much. This is a bit over half that. The only other Canon lens I ever bought was $75 in USA for the cheap 50mm prime. This is a super treat.

That 50mm prime is very highly regarded as being brilliant, and fantastic for the price, from what I've heard.

The bokeh is meh, but it's sharp as a tack, and a great bargain.

The Nikon 50mm prime is similarly awesome, it's just bloody annoying that it basically becomes 75mm with the crop factor on the D80 :(

It makes a great portrait lens then. And still handy. I only have a crop sensor in my 30D anyway.

I have well over a grand's worth of camera gear, but your photos are consistently much better than mine. :p

I also have the really cheap, plasticky Canon 50mm prime, and it's a lovely lens. My pride and joy is my 60mm macro though.

I have a £100 Canon Ixus 70... it's my first camera that didn't also phone people.

And you'll all bow before me when I win the picture comp this week *

* actual winning, and certainly actual bowing, unlikely.

Despite currently being injured and about as able to exercise as an elephant tied to a mountain, I have bought myself one of these Image.

That also despite having a fully functioning 201; Image.

The 405 is chuffing ace, though.
