I hate trailers like this. Showing you almost nowt of the game but so trying to appeal to people who go to raves and like bangin choons that footage of them take up the majority of the runtime. Looks like a road trip Forza? Maybe? I hope this will maybe give Test Drive Unlimited a run for its money.

How is it? You're running from nothing and at no point do you get out of the car. Apart from it being in a car it has no correlation to that game at all.

Post subject:  Re: Forza Horizon

You're not really running from anything in The Run either. It's basically a cannonball across the USA.

Now granted, you barely do any driving in The Run as it's mostly playing SIMON and watching boring unskippable cut scenes blessed with long loading times and then a two minute actual race, but it just seems very similar.

So? Instead of looking like a div talking to your Xbox, you'll just have to select a place on the map from the menu.

Forza 4 had Kinect integration, but didn't detract from the core game if you didn't have it.

Well that's not what it says. You may as well expect it means "you can only use GPS if you strip yourself naked, coat yourself in jam, and hop up and down on one leg" if you're going to just make stuff up.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to think yet. I'm not sure that you can easily reconcile a driving sim with an open-world scenario that includes random traffic. The replayability of Forza for me comes from shaving seconds from lap times. I found that time trials in Hot Pursuit were frustrating due to the random nature of the traffic. I can see the appeal of this game but until I know what the actual game involves then I'm not sure it will be enduring.

I read it that the events would be normal races, but you can choose to go open world and have traffic.

It's looking like they're making efforts to take it in a direction that is much less 'driving sim' than it historically has been. That's great from my perspective, but I can see how it would be irritating if that's what you want from the series.

I think you may be disappointed. They've stated categorically that they're using Forza 4's physics and it won't be Burnout-style arcade handling.

Not that Forza is 100% sim anyway. Probably about 75%.

Using sim-level physics rather than arcade physics is fine - great, even. But I'd like to see a game where fastest lap around a fixed course isn't the be-all and end-all.

But driving games pretty much always come down to going faster than other cars or faster then your previous best. Just driving around and exploring is fine but it gets a bit boring if there's nothing else to do.

That said I guess point to point races on long roads where you can't really hope to learn every corner are fun too, like rally games used to be. I'll probably end up buying this anyway unless it turns out to be horribly broken or something.

Wait... isn't that exactly what a driving sim should be?

Whenever I drive it's pretty much always in an open-world scenario that includes random traffic.

If I want an open world scenario with random traffic I'll drive to the shops.

I want my games to be fun, not realistic.

Realism is boring.

I've always wanted a driving sim that has extreme realism of my local area, then I'd crash into shit and drive like I can't in real life.

I'd have to disagree. Just going for a cruise in a good open world driving game like TDU or indeed Midnight Club LA or even GTA4 can be great fun, you just have to lose yourself in the fantasy and not worry about objectives the game is trying to set you. Hell, Test Drive 3 was a very early example of this: each stage had three routes through but you could ignore your opponent, ignore the clock and take your d
Lamborghini offroading :)

Post subject:  Re: Forza Horizon

I know what you mean Perkies and I can do that in flight sims, just spend hours flying around from one airstrip to the next taking in the views. Also there's always something to be thinking about when flying. But cars are too familiar and too easy for me to find that fun, I've had so much fun driving real cars down real roads that the prospect of just cruising in a simulated car, no matter how exotic the car or location, isn't such a tantalising prospect. That's why in driving games I need an objective.

I'm not saying it's going to be shit or anything, just that I don't know how they are going to pull it off. But then that's why I just play games instead of making them.
