I watched that yesterday! :p And yes, it's worth a watch.

It's no King of Kong, but it's entertaining nonetheless. Some interesting, er, characters in it.

Hehe, ace! Cheers. I know what you mean - I skipped to 10 minutes in and there was an ex-pastor talking about making a table based on the Passion. 8)

Maybe that's why he lost his job.

If that Pinformer thing is even reasonably complete, it would appear that it's all but impossible to find public machines - there are about 6 in the whole of south London. I'd bet that a bar with a room of decently maintained machines would be a pretty decent draw. Of course, it looks like you'd need to spend tens of thousands to get a half dozen OK tables.

I dont really think its up to date - however there *are* occasionally new tables to be found - they just tend to be the ones made by Stern which are this year or last years model (and i bet the arcades get them / run them till they break and never do any maintenance on them).

Special when lit is a great documentary and there is another similar one (whose name escapes me right now).

What I'd love is for something like this to exist in the uk

http://www.pinballmuseum.org/

(I would seriously consider a trip to the US just to visit this place)

BTW from the photos and website the Replay expo event last year in blackpool had quite a selection of tables available

http://www.replayexpo.com/

They have a smaller event planned for Manchester in October this year - some pinball pics from their Flickr stream

You may recognise this table : http://www.flickr.com/photos/uberpixelp ... 7952898661

I'd be up for a BEEX convention meet, by the way. Provided it's reasonably northern. Can't be arsed with a trip down to the south coast!

Oooohhh that looks fab, cheers for the heads-up!

The first couple of minutes with all the dead pinballs made me feel very sad though.

Only had time to watch the first ten minutes, will watch the rest later on!

The other one is called either "Tilt - the history of pinball" or "Tilt - the battle to save pinball" , there are small clips of it on Youtube but it doesnt look like the whole documentary is on there and they link to an US itunes page

http://www.tilt-movie.com/

This basically shows what Williams tried to do to take Pinball into the digital era with the video pinball tables at the end before they gave up :-(

Quote:
"Tilt: The Battle to Save Pinball" is a documentary that tells the story of Pinball 2000, a mind-blowing attempt at resuscitating pinball that failed just at the moment many people thought it might succeed. A "Soul of a New Machine" for the pinball world, "Tilt" is a compendium of interviews with legends of the pinball industry, photos, and film of the best games the industry has produced. Though nominally about pinball, the film is many things: a story of innovation, a business case study, a nostalgia trip, a story about personality and passion, of unlikely teamwork and cooperation in a workplace traditionally driven by ego. It's a story of a bold success dizzyingly followed by stunning failure. From its nostalgic opening jaunt through pinball history to its heartbreaking ending,

And typical that I only see something about this today - however if anyone else is on the South coast (Dates are tomorrow and Sunday)

After the huge success of the last Slam, we are returning for a third time.

By once again combining video games and pinball machines supplied by members of the UK's pinball and video games communities, we are going to push it to the next level in 2012 using not just The Force, but the combined forces of RKD Outpost and the incredible generosity of the UK Pinball community.

Together we aim to create an event to rival any show in the world. As always, the Slam is evolving and keeping ideas fresh and exciting. We are going to create the world's first arcade within an arcade. Sounds interesting?

Also, for 2012 we are pleased to announce a special guest - a total legend in the pinball world. Yes, Steve Ritchie will be flying in from Chicago to be at the Slam and to talk about his career in pinball as well as his latest AC/DC game.

To celebrate Steve's visit, this year's Charity Raffle top prize will be a fully-workshopped, immaculate Star Trek - The Next Generation machine which will be signed and presented to the winner by Steve, who designed the game.

Keep checking this site for all the latest updates and be sure to book yourself in early to avoid missing out. You can also check out last years show on Pinball News and in this TV report.

Been trying for ages to beat my Theatre score, but it's not happening. Those outlanes are like hoovers! Sometimes when the ball is travelling fast and you hit it with the tip of the flipper, it seems to just teleport underneath 'em. I don't think the game is particularly glitchy, but it does do some odd things. The reverse flippers on the Black Hole table (or at least the left one) can hit the ball back into play when it's gone underneath it...

Had another few goes on Believe It Or Not. First couple were mediocre, but on the last, I beat my previous best score just with the first ball. Still not managed all the Ripley letters yet, but managed to limp past Mr C's score at least. My head was fried by the end of the game.. you really have to concentrate the whole time.

Wish I could've gone, had a go on Twilight Zone or Addams Family (I bet the lines for those two were huge) as well as a proper Time Pilot or Cosmic Avenger machine.

God, that reporter is annoying. I'd have loved an unnarrated video of that guy's collection being cleaned and prepared and tested with Lana Del Ray not being blathered over.

He doesn't blink once in the first 32 seconds he's on camera.

But then I think he gets two captive balls at once on the lower playing field so it's all good. He's in the zone. And he had a pinball machine at home.

FYI the first two extra tables are live on the iOS version

Medieval madness is the 'table of the month' so is free to play for this month and is an upgraded version of the one on Williams Pinball , feels and responds well on the ipad (not tried on the iphone).

Bride of Pinbot is the other table and is limited in the same way as the others so if you dont buy it you can trial the table and play until you hit the bottom of the high score table where it will stop.

Tables are £1.99 each or £2.99 for both

Next two tables announced again one repeat and one new

Quote:
We are very excited to announce that the next two Pinball Arcade downloadable tables will be Cirqus Voltaire and Funhouse!

Cirqus Voltaire was designed by John Popadiuk and released under the Bally label in 1997. It features a dot-matrix display mounted in the playfield, a pop bumper which rises during gameplay, and a moving Ringmaster head. This table makes nearly everyone’s top-10 list of the best pinball tables of all time!

Funhouse was designed by Pat Lawlor and released by Williams in 1990. This is an iconic table featuring a talking animatronic head named Rudy who responds in real-time to game events, including taunting the payer and following the ball with its eyes. Funhouse was featured in FarSight’s Pinball Hall of Fame several years ago, but this version is all-new and uses our ROM-emulation technology instead of the scripted rules simulation we used previously.

Both of these tables will begin appearing on Pinball Arcade platforms in May!

Rumours are 400 points for 2 tables - not seen anything about release dates for them on XBLA yet.

TheVision wrote:

So far I've paid £5.99 for all 4 first tables on IOS
£2.99 for the next 2 (Bride of Pinbot is amazing and a table i'd never played IRL)

And i'll happily put down another £2.99 for the next two

And also 800 points for the XBL version and i'll be getting the others as soon as they come out.

There was a question posted on their facebook page asking them about releasing "Twilight Zone" and the answer was something like "keep watching"

Splendid stuff - I'm a 100% deffo for buying all the DLC for this on 360.

Cirqus Voltaire is an amazing table, never got lucky enough to see a real one but it was fantastic in Visual Pinball.

The real thing is an absolute fucking work of art, in a darkened room it's proper beautiful.

I managed to start Harem Multiball in my last game, and got the achievement for completing the standard goals, but it hasn't been crossed off the list, for some reason, so I haven't unlocked the wizard goals. Boo-urns!

Theatre of Magic is such a good table, but sweet Jesus sometimes the outlanes seem to be about a foot wide. Especially when in multiball.

Effing addictive though. I've still not yet done all the illusions in one go.

Williams Pinball was terrible for that - however as its not crossed off there is a good chance you'll get it again.

(Williams also randomly 'spotted' you had completed things in later games sometimes even on other tables)

Cool, cheers. The Harem Multiball is one of the hardest things to get, I find - you have to hit a secret target 3 times, and there's no real way to plan for it or aim at it...

I've seen rumors that the first DLC drop for the Xbox will be next week but thats probably just Bride of Pinbot and Medieval Madness - Circus and Funhouse are not out on IOS or Android yet - last post on their facebook page says "May" for those two tables on IOS so probably June for consoles.

I swear the Theatre of Magic table has a vendetta against me. With three balls remaining I have done MAGIC, THEATRE, and midnight madness twice. I'm down the the final illusion and just need to hit the trunk one more time. Missed over 20 shots at something I never miss. About ten bounced and rattled around the jaws of the box.

GAH!

That is the stress of pinball, repeatedly fucking something up that is entirely routine when it doesn't matter, and yet impossible to do when it does.

Happens on the real thing too.

Theatre of Magic is definitely my pick out of the first batch of tables, to the extent it's probably taken about 85% of my play time. It's one of those tables that just 'works', looks great, sounds fantastic, really nice flowing shots when you get in the groove.

I have now got to the final illusion twice, and ballsed it up.

Gah! 1.8billion too... I'd have flown up the leaderboard had I completed the grand finale!

*weeps*

One day, it shall be mine...

Yeah me too, I didn't hit a brick wall with difficulty on Trials but I stopped having fun on the hard tracks, so pinball it is.

You see, Keith Vaz! People can disagree on politics, but video games brings them together!

;)

Dude, it's just knocking balls about with flippers - not like real mens' games like Trials.

Ooohhh they had that in my halls at Uni, I got really rather good at it.

In fact, I did far better at pinball high scores than I did at my degree.

Argh! Got up to 3rd on the Theatre of Magic table, would have been 2nd but I ballsed up the Grand Finale. Ah well.

Now I just need the 100m multi-ball shot to finish the wizard goals, as I got the Grand Finale the following time, but finished just short of my previous best.

Guess we'll be waiting a bit longer for the next sets of tables - in short - Android this week / iOS probably the week after / XBL who knows (although submitted this week)

Funhouse and Cirqus Voltaire have been approved by WMS for release! We wish that we had dates to announce exactly when. We understand your frustration. In an effort to keep you guys up to date with the latest news, we will be posting and updating the status of each platform more regularly. Here is today's update:

iOS - An update with DLC Pack #2 (Funhouse and Cirqus Voltaire) will be submitted to Apple this week. It should be approved and released by the middle of the month. The update that adds DLC Pack #3 in June will include Game Center and an improved login method for our leaderboards.

Android - An update with DLC Pack #2 (Funhouse and Cirqus Voltaire) will be released this week.

PS3/Vita - An update that includes DLC Pack #1 is currently at Sony North America for approval. The European launch pack is currently in submission at SCEE. Once approved, the additional DLC Packs will be immediately submitted (#2 in North America and #1 and #2 in Europe). Improved lighting is still planned for the Vita version.

360 - An update that includes both DLC Pack #1 and #2 will be submitted to Microsoft this week for approval. Improved lighting is scheduled to be implemented in time for the next DLC release.

Mac - DLC Pack #1 and #2 will be submitted and released shortly. We were going to wait until the lighting engine on Mac OS was improved, but that is taking longer than expected.

PC - We are still working on the PC engine. We will not release it until the graphics are at least up to the standards set by the 360 and PS3 versions. We also need to find distribution partners (traditional desktop and/or cabinet).

3DS - We have a plan to get the performance we need out of the 3DS to run the ROM emulation, however some R&D in needed before we know for sure whether it will work. The 3DS version is on hold until we can invest the time and resources into this R&D.

Wii/Wii-U - FarSight developed 12 titles for the Wii. We wish that Pinball Arcade could be #13. Unfortunately, the Wii isn't powerful enough to run Pinball Arcade. We are very excited about the Wii-U and hope to release as close to the launch of the platform as possible.

We copied this to the "General Information" area under "About" on this page and plan to keep things updated there as best we can.

I'm surprised that the Wii isn't powerful enough to run it. I didn't think that would be the case at all but, there you go.

I had 2 pinball Wii games -

The Williams collection : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinball_Ha ... Collection
And
Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinball_Ha ... Collection

Both of which played fine but obviously did not have hi res visuals (actually using Wii-mote + Nunchuck triggers worked well for the feel of a pinball table)

They just announced on Facebook that they've got permission to license The Twilight Zone!

However the licence is extremely expensive and they're considering a frigging Kickstarter campaign to obtain it... Bugger it, where do I sign?

We have good news and bad news to report on the issue of licensed tables. We’ve finally succeeded in negotiating all of the licenses we’d need to bring the Twilight Zone to the Pinball Arcade. This is unquestionably one of the greatest pinball tables of all time (and is currently #1 in IPDB’s user rankings). However the licenses are VEY expensive- so expensive that the table probably isn’t commercially viable. Some of you have suggested a Kickstarter project to raise money for the license costs and we’re considering this. We’d like to ask your opinion- is this a good idea? If we did it what should the rewards be for backers, and at what contribution levels? We’d appreciate your thoughts!

Its an interesting problem - i know a lot of the tables i'd like to see are licensed and would therefore cost extra - and i can see Kickstarter as an option for them rather than paying up front and having no idea how much they will get back but i think right now i'd rather they just got more tables out and kept that idea of new tables each month.
