Agree. Most of my posts are pretty contentless.

I'm going to force https so the site can use http/2. If that causes problems for anyone then let me know.

Works, although Zaphod's sig loads over http and triggers a mixed content warning. Guess you can't do much about that though.

lol now my avatar is doing the same thing, weird how that didn't show up in the network requests panel.

//edit: fixed, and obviously it wouldn't have shown up before I posted because my avatar wasn't on the page.

Could you please just remind me of the link for the mobile site as I changed my front screen bookmark thingy to go to the one you gave a few days ago and have lost the other now. :D

Post subject:  Re: Forum changes!

Times are a-changing, friends. Well, actually, times a-changed quite a while ago.

When Beex started in 2008 Duffy was topping the charts and it wasn't until four months later that Apple decided to release an iPhone that actually had a 3G connection, and many members were still connecting via dialup. Therefore it made sense for Beex to keep image and page sizes down.

It's not 2008 any more (sorry if that is a shock to some of you) and Beex has a lot of pages (roughly 33,000 of them) containg 30 posts each. I'd like to experiment with upping that to 100 posts each.

It doesn't make much difference to the page size (unless there are a lot of images) because a good chunk of that is taken up by the JavaScript code to make the page go (especially in the mobile skin), so things should still load quickly.

That's basically in place for fun now. We can make it a 30 page limit instead?

It's the price we have to pay to retain our forum sovereignty, and throw off the EU yoke and their ridiculous 30 post limit.

We'll its sorta broken the historic B&B posts because we dont actually go to the end of page 100

On the plus side they are all 30 pages - on the negative side you cant see which was the first post on page 100 (and so who got to start the next B&B)

On the other plus side: no one cares and it doesn't matter in the slightest.

Post subject:  Re: Forum changes!

While we are changing stuff, can we make it so that when you press the "goto last read" button on a thread, when the thread opens, it actually does go to the last post read, rather than going there for a microsecond, and then jumping up to a few posts before. I'm looking at you, brexit thread. I'm assuming it happens due to links to images of twitter posts, that take longer to resolve than the building of the page.

Now there are more posts on a page, the jump up could be more significant, and more annoying.

It is indeed the inline Twitter feeds that causes that. Feel free to fix it if you've got time, otherwise I'll get around to it some time next month.

It's not just twitter; hotlinked images do that too, for the same reason of course.

Can we change it back or have it as an option or something? Scrolling on a mobile phone is reet shit now.

And why doesn’t iPhone have a go straight to the bottom area to press? It’s got a “to the top” area. And there’s enough screen space on an X to do it. Tch.

That's one of the major things I find I miss when I have switched from iOS to android.

Help a brother understand. What is "scroll to the top" and "scroll to the bottom" areas?

And why are you scrolling anyway?

Author:  myp [ Tue Jul 31, 2018 23:27 ]
Post subject:  Re: Forum changes!

Tap the top of Safari and it takes you to the top of the page you're on. I do miss it but the scrolling is better on Android as it speeds up the more you do it.

Post subject:  Re: Forum changes!

On iOS, on any page with a scroll area (eg web browser, Twitter client, etc) tapping the clock at the top of the screen jumps all the way to the top of the scrolling area.

So on beex, for example, you can scroll down reading posts, then when you are done tap the clock and immediately be looking at the button strip to go back to the thread list.

Aren't the four buttons always visible at the top?
