Couldn't you just let yourself get killed (a pretty easy feat in Dark Souls I hear) and let the game auto-reload you back again?

Disclaimer: I have no idea how Dark Souls actually works so am curious to know how this aspect actually works.

The game would reload Pod back into the game, but the NPC would stay dead. I did much the same in my game - there was an annoying bloke around the start location near some urns, so I killed him. For being annoying, not standing near urns.. that would have been harsh.

Turns out you can't reload in this game, and that angering the guy means he's permanently after you and he's pretty dangerous. I spent a while trying to kill him and then accidentally rolled off the cliff face, with him following, which now means he's dead.

I think this game is a bit shit, really.

You have to think about stuff you're doing.

Really? You're chipping in because it continuously saves? It works well and that NPC he's killed makes no impact on the game. Shit, you can perma-kill everyone you come across if you like apart from a talking snake. You soon learn not to fuck about with Dark Souls.

Dark Souls.

The NPC wouldn't be dead, but he'd still be aggressive. There is a book you can put your name in way later into the game to fix it, but you'll pretty much have to kill him. It took me loads of goes to off that guy - well annoyed I didn't think of leading him off a cliff.

I did exactly the same, I ended up with him chasing me, Benny Hill style, round and round a well until one time he just decided to fall off that cliff.

Mother-fuck. I had to parry and counter-attack him about ten times for him to die.

I didn't kill him, occassionally chatting with him. He tipped me off about the Orange Knight that'd make a move later on in the game. He was a bit cunty to me though. I left him alone after that until much later on when I was ready for ghost town, hours into the game.

He'd disappeared from the Shrine and was roaming about in the ghost town. Fucker attacked me without saying a word. By that time, I'd got a kick ass zapping stick and I jabbed it into his gut until he frazzled out of existence. I never did find out why he suddenly kicked off. Ah well.

Nah, it's my fault. I do think it's a terrific game though but I recognise it's not for everyone. It's certainly got it's own idiosyncrasies that are unheard of in modern gaming.

It would be most excellent if you could piss on other players bonfires as a phantom.

Oh my. Oh my Oh my.

This is going to be some quest. I found the way to Undead burg. Whilst fighting the zombies, I didn't notice until too late that I'd rolled backwards over a cliff. YOU DIED. Up the stairs again, I didn't notice the zombie throwing jam jars of fire at me until after i was set on a fire a couple of times. So I ran towards him. Then he pulled out a knife so I dodged, brilliantly, over the side of the cliff. YOU DIED. Cut a long story short (YOU DIED)(YOU DIED)(YOU DIED)(YOU DIED) I was doing really well, then confidence got the better of me and Dark Souls slapped me down again. by landing a dragon on my head. YOU DIED.

This is amazing. And it is never unfair.

Holy fuck, I'm in love.

I have a sword and a shield am am level 8. I also have a morning star, but I don't fully understand what is better to make things more dead with. I have picked up a bunch of stuff, but it doesn't matter as if attempt 1 does not work a few times, I'll try something new. This is like a new way of playing games now. YOU DIED. Oh, OK, we'll try it this way, then. WELL DONE YOU ARE NOT DEAD. Hahaha, watch me figh these things and YOU DIED. OK, your game, your rules. I'll get up and bring it up, bitch. Wow. Holy wow.

I was thinking "REALLY WANT A BONFIRE RIGHT NOW" lots, which added up the pressure and made mistakes happen more often. It's unrelenting. It's madness, but in a good way.

You know you can hold two weapons per hand and hop between them on the fly? I thought the morning star was good for those fecking spear guys who hide behind their shield. You can wander over and smash then reet on the bonce.

At the cost of a higher equip load (and so slower movement and stamina recovery)

I was about to say "It's shit that the game doesn't tell you how it works", but then I recall all of the high opinions about the game and how the fact it doesn't tell you anything is why it's so fab.

Maybe they put that annoying guy in at the start to allow the psychopaths amongst us to figure out how much of a dick the game will be to you?

Kinda romping through the second time round now.

Spoilered for MaliA's sake:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Mothbitch dead, helped out by the Witch who I didn't see first time round and a Phantom who happened to leave a summon sign in the area. My contribution to the fight was delivering the final blow when she landed on the wall. :D

Took the crow back to the Asylum to get the ring and doll (bravely running past the black knight that I completely forgot about and got the frig out of there with a Homeward Bone :DD . Unlocked the door in Undead Berg that leads you down to where the Capra Demon lives, eft him for now but carried on through the area to unlock the door leading back to the Firelink Shrine near the sewer merchant. Quite a good run last night really.

What's the difference between a phantom and, er, a regular ghost? I summoned both for the dragon fight and thought the phantom might kick off but none of us could hurt one another. :S

T'other ones aren't summoned, they invade and are red.

You can summon two though - players who want to help, and NPC characters that hang around in strategic places. You have to be non-hollow, though (which means cunts can invade you game, the cunts).

Yes, but both of the helpy kind of summonees leave a white mark on the floor. It's up to you to choose to summon them.

An invader just invades willy nilly :hat: and is red.

Sun bro's, that'll be the one then.

Also, that multiplayer area in the DLC is ace. Well, provided all you want to do is get stabbed in the back time after time after time.

Stupid players are stupid.

I've vowed never to let it ruin my experience again. I like invaders better.

Speaking of which, I had some cock hiding the other side of a long bridge right next to a caster. The caster just endlessly pummelled me whilst this dick stood by hoping I'd cross the tiny bridge presumably to kick me off. He refused to move for ages so I buggered off. I needed to go that was too as I was still doing the new stuff so I stood at the top of a staircase and waited. And waited. And waited.

Then I waited some more. It was punishing. I tried that stone thingy to remove phantoms but it doesn't work with invaders. So I waited. I was just about to make a cup of tea when he started walking up the stairs. I jumped down doing a Kung fu chop killing him outright. Laugh? I was in tears.

I've LOLed myself when I've been invaded by weaklings.

The best one was a scary looking hulk in some crazy armour who was dead my magic in the face before he got within arms reach.

Dark Souls.

Can I go home from work and Dark Souls instead?

Yes.

Yes.

Just look at the equipment you have and if there are things you fancy using but are too weak in certain aspects just level them up. Try not to level everything evenly, think about how you like playing the game and the type of character you want to create.

Am I allowed to read a little bit about levelling up and weapons and armor? Please?

Can I go home from work and Dark Souls instead?

I think a few more hit points would be useful, and strngth so I smashify things more effiently. I'm level 8 at the moment. I've picked up a whole bunch of objects but I don't know what they are. i've got a talisman of sorts and I found some "Soul of something or others". I suspect Dark Souls is going to be an abusive relationship that degenerates into a battle of wills in a war of attrition. One bonfire at a time.

You Use souls as currency in the game, to either level up or buy things from merchants. The ones you absorb from killing stuff go into your stash straight away but the ones like 'Soul of a Proud Knight' need to be 'used' before you can spend them at bonfires/merchants.

Coo. ta. So when I get a thing like that, hot foot it back to the bonfire and use it to aid levelling up sharpish, lest it disappears seems to be a decent idea.

Regarding weapons, I think I'll try lots early on until I find a style I agree with.
