MarkG, do you still want to borrow my copy?

Cheers for bringing this round mate. Had an hour on it before bed last night. It all feels quite familiar after playing Demons Souls but not too much. I've chosen pyro thingy, and picked a magic key as a gift. Have I gone wrong already?

That's the best choice to start off with I'd say.

You'll have to clock it by the time the DLC is released. :)

Hover implies a hesitation rather than immediate action.

Like when I'm with your Mum.

Second playthrough complete. That NG+ final boss was easier the second time round. Two attempts (As compared to the many, many more which I must have had first time around.)

Yeah, that little basement is rather unnerving. It is possible to fight them one on one, a bow is highly recommended to get their attention. as is a greatshield if you have one.

The jumping dragon bug that allowed you to avoid having to go down there has been fixed.

Yeah, I managed to pick my way through them the second time using a combination of the bow and moving out of the way. There was a lot of swearing at them for the trouble they'd caused the first time.

I simultaneously killed and got killed by the big furry fucker on the battlements in Undead Burg last night. "You Died" came up immediately followed by "Victory Achieved" so I didn't get to pick up anything he dropped. Hope it was nothing too important. I think that realistically my chances of actually completing this game are pretty slim. I got pretty pissed off last night when I tried to lock on to an enemy right in front of me and immediately dodge only to realise that it had decided that I was wanting to fight another thing that was miles away and I dodged straight off the edge to my doom. I'm still enjoying it but too many incidents like that will soon see me off.

I found things got easier as I went along*. Especially once you get some better equipment and weapons. It's a slog though.

You're ok - He drops nothing. You may lose the souls that he dropped, but that's not too much of a worry.

And I didn't find the locking thing to be a common occurance. The only time I had locking problems like that was blighttown. (Now, Demons souls, Shrine of Storms, there it happens too often)

Stay behind its bum and stab it. If it flies up in the air, run the fuck away, then come back and stab again once it's landed.

I jump of the ledge and land on its head and stab-stab-stab and then I fall off and it hits me and I run into a pillar and it hits me and then i run and stab-stab-stab and run into a pillar and I die. So I try agian a few more times and get VERY CROSS.

EDIT: I got within one hit of killing it once and then I died BECAUSE FUCK YOU. I've been pressing the traget lock button like mr Dave told me to as well. And everyone laughs at me now.

If you're fighting one big dude, I wouldn't use the target lock. Hitting that massive fucker isn't hard, and having the target lock on makes it much harder to run away.

A few things.
1) You are doing a plunging attack when falling onto him? That should remove about a third of his health
2) You're a pyro, I seem to remember, so you can sit back out of range and fireball him to death. That's what I did.
3) You have equipped your axe (or whatever you have if not pyro)? (When I first played, I didn't realise that I had to, and so found everything very hard to kill with a sword hilt)
4) if not using fire, dual wielding your weapon gives more damage, and against bosses this big you're generally better off doing that and avoiding attacks rather than blocking them with shields.
5) Try and stay behind him. He can't really damage you there (Or at least not without massively telegraphing it and allowing you to avoid it). If he's against a wall, just retreat and encourage him forward

Aye. I seem to remember (from last november, so pre patch and also maybe poor memory) it takes a plunging attack and 3 fireballs to kill him.

And, of course, the piece of advice I'd give for any boss (and indeed, any enemy which causes you problems):

Learn how to not die before even thinking about trying to kill it. Look at it's behaviours and learn how to avoid being hit. Usually you'll also learn when you have an opening to heal while doing this. Once you're adept at surviving, only then look for openings that you can attack in.

I'm not sure 1200MSP would be seen as good value by many. It's not exactly the largest expansion, and not _quite_ up to the same standards as the rest of the game.

Having said that, I don't in the least bit regret paying out more for it with PC version attached.

Released in the states today.

Released in places we actually care about on the day that starts 21 minutes from now.

Actual excitement brewing. Although that could be the milk that expired today but serviced 3 cups of coffee and, worryingly, actually floated on the surface a little.

Think I might order the physical copy tomorrow. Do we know how that version works yet? New game with new cheevos or will it recognise my save and act as though I just have the DLC?

There's nowt on True Achievements showing either a different version, or DLC with any achievements. Normally they have any listed well in advance of the game cropping up. Sounds like no extra achievements then.

There were no extra achievements on the pc version. Even collecting achievements didn't require anything from the new content to be collected.

Even though I couldn't give a flying fuck about cheevos it seem odd that there aren't any for the DLC. Presumably the Japanese don't get cheevos.
