Ohhhh a countdown ......

(probably to another countdown)

http://www.vg247.com/2011/02/25/countdo ... -3-reveal/

Quote:
Countdown points to Modern Warfare 3 reveal

This just kicked off. A countdown website known as “findmakarov.com” has appeared online. Modern Warfare 3 season? Looks like it.

Countdown’s at under five days right now. In addition, TVGB received promotional dog tags from Activision which led to the site. It also contains information on MW2 character Shepard.

The tags proclaim “End the War”.

Sounds like a GDC reveal to us. Modern Warfare 2 was also first shown at the event two years ago.

A lot’s changed since that showing, though. Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West were fired by Activision for “insubordination”, and have gone on to find Respawn Entertainment.

Both men as well as others are suing Activision for unseen royalties from MW2. Activision is also counter-suing Zampella, West and EA, who will distribute and publish the studio’s first game.

It’s rumoured that Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer and Raven Software are currently working on the game together.

Could this be the year the masses finally give up and realise Battlefield 3 is probably going to be better? If this is running on the same engine again, with the same copy and paste multiplayer, urgh. They really need to change it up now. Hope they do. BLOPS is great, but I've REALLY had my fill now.

Heh. From the VG247 comments. I fall for it every year.

Only 5 seconds of supposed gameplay action in the trailer, but if that is actual in game footage, it looks pretty epic!

The story is stumbling its way into Matrix Sequel territory, the single-player will remain the world's shiniest conveyor belt and the multiplayer will still be Scunthorpe United's idea of level playing field. We know exactly what it's going to be like and whether we like it or not. We know it will shift about a billion copies. We know our Xbox friends lists will have an inevitable uniformity for a couple of months and that's all fine. I just want to be spared the marketing overkill that starts today and doesn't stop until November or whenever it comes out. Battlefield 3 wants to come out exactly three months before CoD8. Long enough beforehand for people bored of the last one to buy something full-price to keep them going until release day, long enough for the (hopefully) good reviews to sink in and long enough to realise it's better.

Battlefield 3 looks awesome-sauce. I still luv Bad Company 2 and have excellent memories of Battlefield 2. I thinkt his one could be a game-changer. You were able to blow up houses in Bad Company 2, there's hints that you might be able to blow up even bigger urban centre multi-story buildings in this. I can't wait.

Can we turn this thread into a COD 8 vs BF3 title, or something? I want to read about both but can't be arsed with two threads.

Is battlefield 3 BF bad company 3? If so, they are really going to have to work on the single player as that sucked in BFBC2.

No, Battlefield 3 is the sequel to Battlefield 2.
Battlefield : Bad Company is the more small scale, squad based game, Battlefield is the bigger scale war scenario based game... I think :D

Yeah, BF3 is the direct sequel to BF2. Which = 32/64/128 player madness on an epic scale, huge maps, ALL the vehicles, etc.

Bad Company 1 & 2 were slightly smaller scale (although still fairly "epic" for a console FPS I suppose), with a proper solo campaign (something BF games traditionally waver in favour of pure multiplayer action), and generally more console-oriented, although they did see a PC release as well.

BF3 will undoubtedly be best on PC if you're looking for the huge team games with over 32 players, but if BC2's multiplayer is anything to go by, the console versions will still be excellent.

I'm very much looking forward to Battlefield 3, as I bloody loved Bad Company 2's multiplayer. I don't care so much about any single player portion, as the multiplayer is really just that good.

CoD 8, I don't care about in advance, but will probably still buy it. It's not something I crave or even look forward to, but I know I'll end up getting it all the same, shortly after its release.

Bad Company 2: I remember laughing insanely as I took cover in a house from a guy who fired a grenade launcer at me, blowing out a massive chunk of wall right next to me, running through and gunning me down. I realised then that I could do the same. And the realisation was sweet. I can't understand why the multiplayer isn't raved about more. It genuinely is the best multiplayer experience I've yet had. It also feels suitably epic. With 32 players on it's a real warzone.

CoDMod I'm just not as interested in. I loved the first one, the second was entertaining enough if insultingly silly. CoDBlops, well I just hated the single player campaign. Felt it was badly acted with a stupid concept and awfully scripted. And the levels were crap. Multiplayer was fun, but not being able to demolish things, fight over a map the size of Central Cardiff or do fun squad stuff left me cold.

I hope they haven't sacrificed any BF-AWESOME multiplayer wise by spending so much time delicately creating yet another set piece riddled campaign. It looks good, mind, but yeah.

Some new in game footage from GDC via Kotaku for Battlefield 3

http://uk.kotaku.com/5777182/unofficial ... -a-stunner

Quote:
Shot on the sly at GDC, the Italian gaming site Multiplayer.it provides this peek at the visual tour de force of Battlefield 3 - including urban combat with buckling pavement and crumbling buildings, and even an aerial sequence?

The video appears to come from a behind-closed-doors screening at the Game Developers Conference, much of it gameplay. Even filmed bootleg style, the game's packing some serious visuals.

For more on Battlefield 3 from GDC, check out our full preview.

By the way, the original link in this thread for Modern Warfare now has a live action video trailer.

I'm struggling with the interest in BF3 but ambivalence to COD8.

Am I the only person here who think's BF3 gameplay looks like MW? Lovely set-pieces (like the sniper bit above) and pop up targets (the car park shoot out), looks like MW to me.

Don't get me wrong though, I think both series' are great. I was just wondering why the interest in BF3 from these videos when the core gaming experience doesn't appear to have progressed beyond MW by the look of it. Acceptable answers are of course "shiney, shiney."

Battlefield isn't about the single-player, and the multiplayer is leagues apart in feel from CoD.

Have you played Bad Company 2? IMO the interest is based on how well that plays, and the assumption that BF3 will take the vast majority of the playability of BC2 and add on the shiney and more blowey-uppyness.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear, but I was talking about some of the interest in the BF3 single player campaign shown in those videos. We know the multiplayer experience between the two titles are distinct enough. The BF/:BC campaigns have always been a rancid affair.

Ah, I haven't interpreted any of the interest to be related to the single player campaign as such, just in the environments, gameplay and possibilities for multiplayer that can be assumed to be taken across from the single player into multiplayer.

The answer for me is "shiney shiney" , I'd never played COD before MW2 , I loved it and black ops.

Right now i've never played a Battlefield game , and this looks very shiney for me.

I was in exactly the same position as you, never played a CoD before MW2 and fell in love with it, put in about 80 hours online before BC2 came out.
Switched to BC2 and after an hour or so never looked back. I bought Black Ops and put a few hours in, but it really isn't in the same league as BC2 if you like your online multiplayer to have a bit more intelligence about it.

Add that to the shiney from the trailers, and BF3 is easily my most anticipated game this year.

I think we might just find that this year is the year when finally the gaming public gets sick of the same core experience and just says "meh."

I just hope something like, say, The Last Guardian comes along at the same time and wows the public. But 8 COD's and 6(ish, I think) BF's in and I just can't see it... :(

EDIT: Hang on, that sounds a bit contradictory. I mean, we'll buy them both in the bucketload (me included) (well, one a piece) but we'll grow tired of them much quicker. I can already see it with COD:BLOPS.

BLOPS is still the biggest selling game of all time. I'd suggest we're a way short of saturation point yet.

I think there's games and then there's CoD, it seems like lots of people who play CoD type stuff aren't even necessarily interested in playing anything much else. I think the chances that they'll all suddenly get bored with it this year are about the same as the chances that this year will be the year that everyone who plays golf suddenly gets fed up with that and quits. I think there's loads of mileage in ever more convoluted shooting each other in the face simulators.
