'Ignorant'.

To be ignorant of something is to be unaware of it, but it's also a special super magic word you can use as an insult to somebody who reaches a differing conclusion to you. It also means YOU WIN!

Anybody who disagrees is ignorant.

My English teacher loathed the word. She said it was so weak and flimsy and dilute, you were always better off with a synonym. I can't disagree.

Back in the lame town I grew up in people used to to mean "ignoring". As in "stop being so ignorant"/"stop ignoring me". e.g. here. She clearly doesn't know why he's offended. But, IRONICALLY, it's because he knows what the word ignorant means,

It's the same here. Loads of people use the word 'ignorant' to mean 'not listening', and think you're just pretentious and using words you don't understand if you use it in any other context.

A lad pushed past an old woman on the Oxford Road station steps yesterday, to which she turned around and called him an ignorant git.

Most internet-isms bother me though. It's not the use of them in itself; it's the total lack of imagination - I know each generation has its own slang and that, but when every group has the same boring slang as everyone else, all culled from some usually unfunny as fuck internet meme, I get very bored of it all.

:this: Reading the comments section on the Register highlights the problem well. Because the comments are moderated, they tend to appear in batches, so you'll see a whole load of people making the same 'funny' comment over and over like 'I for one welcome our... warlords' which soon gets tiresome.
