The Daily Mail really are a bunch of cunts, aren't they?

Discussing the new public sector pension stuff, with the examples:

Nurse on 15k a year.

Teacher on 25K a year.

Civil servant on £200,000.

Yeah, because that's an average wage for a civil servant.

Aerage public sector pension is £5k a year or so - I think that's the only number they need to print, but the one they never do.

What? We're witnessing a possible batting collapse here. It's swinging wonderfully. Too wodnerfully.

I bought Dead Rising yesterday for £6 at CEX - it's a bit good. I'm only 2 hours of in-game time in yet, but it seems good. Odd that you can get bitted or scratchened by zombies and not turn into one though.

which is?

I'm aware of the ways in which it's a bit broken and annoying, but it's zombies, in a mall. For £6.

I think they're "rise from the dead" zombies rather than infection zombies. Like the original Night of the Living Dead.

Dead Rising is still woefully underplayed in my house. It takes a lot of patience, I think is the problem - I'm all too aware that playing it can result in tonnes of fun or powerful infuriation.

Try aiming and firing at a zombie when you have no item equipped. I had the game for a year before I found that.

It's still no excuse on the game's part. The text is stupidly small either way.

Two hours in I'm guessing you've not fought any bosses yet. Have fun.

Remember, you're not supposed to be able to actually play the game until you've played it all the way through three times, or some similar comment.

I once criticised the game to Perkies at some length. He said that of course it wasn't fun and I needed to level up some more first. He proposed with a straight face I go down to some tunnel under the mall, get in a car, and drive back and forth in a straight line killing zombies for "about three hours, maybe four." Then I would unlock some powerful gun that would make the game fun.

To Perkies, I politely demurred; to Dead Rising, I said "get fucked."

BTW, someone's spolier tags there don't work. Thanks.

EDTI - oh, and it's not a figure, it's a spaceship. A jedi starfighter, for somewhat less than half price. TK Maxx occasionally has odd but excellent stuff. I nearly bought a very large model kit of a Russian transport helicopter.

Twatter is useless, possibly because I have no friends. So, beteo communal mind: How long should a spider bite last? Not a serious one, was less painful than I remember a wasp sting being when I was a kid (which was THE MOST PAIN ANY LIVING BEING HAD EVER SUFFERED, obv).

This was three weeks ago, and I still have three red bumps where it repeatedly bit me in a panicky bid to escape my sock. They're not painful or itchy or infected, but they are raised and highly visible. Is this normal? Is it something I should mention to the doctor, with whom I already have about 20 things to discuss to narrow down the long and alarming list of ailments that might apply to me?

Sorry :-(

As to Doccy G's comments about the super duper gun , that is a method of playing it but not one I did , and its a game which you wont 'win' the first time round but I often dont play games to 'win' but to enjoy myself.

For Mr Chris , play around and enjoy yourself - dont think you need to do things perfectly - if you die - restart and do other things - theres a lot of fun in simply wandering round the mall picking up stuff and bashing Zombies with it - when you get the 'you've failed all these tasks' then just keep going - *dont* expect to go through the game once and get a perfect finish - if something is too powerful for you then run away.

I'll spoiler this (hopefully correctly) in case you dont want any hints or tips and these are from memory and i've not played the game in a long time but :

Take pictures of things , you get points for it - especially the various survivors you meet
Mixing drinks is useful - at the start go to the cafe where the annoying ginger photographer is and you'll have an unlimited supply of orange juice and a mixer - at the start OJ will reful all your hit points - later mixing 2 together gives you a potion that will.
Killing zombie cops will give you pistols but the best early weapons are bats and swords - easiest first sword to get is jumping out of the upstairs of that first cafe and its on the ledge.
Later in the game books are important and make weapons last longer / food heal more so make sure you pick them up
There is a secret passage you get as part of a mission which makes things easier later , also there is one baddie who is a clown who carries mini chainsaws which are the most powerful weapon in the game - makes sure you get those - but dont worry about it at the start.
You can hear survivors from a distance - and its useful to carry a queen to distract the zombies while you get to them - they also do well with weapons and whatever you give them *wont* wear out so give them your guns when your low on ammo (they can simply keep using them)

3 weeks is a long time, bro.

That's what I suspected. I pinched off a quite deep chunk of skin on my thumb the week before (who knew a corkscrew could be so dangerous?), and that's completely healed since.

I don't know if this might just happen with bites sometimes, though - maybe some people are just a bit more sensitive to them so they last longer?

You can kill the fuckwit photographer - in one deeply satisfying shot - with the sledgehammer.

Oh, and (early boss fight tip):

The machine gun mounted on the convicts' jeep will make extremely short work of anyone who gets in your way
