Are they the guys who punch the tickets and show you to your seats?

The one on the right looks rather surprised. Was the one on the left in EastEnders?

I've been subscribed to that for a good while now. I particularly enjoy how their comments sections get old people memes automatically added in; it gives an air of light hearted surrealness to the entire place.

Many years ago, when I was an IT Administrator in the civil service, our network ran on Novell Netware, and one of the useful features was the Broadcast Message. This allowed administrators to send a pop-up to appear simultaneously on the screen of everyone who was currently logged in and which would be on top of whatever was on their screen. It was also an open plan office, so when my colleague sent this one out, we could hear the gasps and laughter across the whole floor as it hit the screens. It should be noted that the trolley in question was white and not as described by my fat fingered friend.

Netware send... That takes me back. It was even worse on the dos based pcs, as it blocked all input until it was cleared. Meaning you could just send relentless messages to a certain user and deny them access.

Not that I had something to do that for me...

Yeah, I got in trouble a few times with our school's IT staff thanks to that command ;)

We put together a little UDP listener to listen for commands to prompt to logout...

Turns out this is a bad idea if someone doesn't look at their screen while typing and hits enter.

More fun was the command to remotely toggle the CD drives eject state. The more credulous children could be persuaded into thinking you could control the pc with your mind if you had, say, a Doug sending the command at the appropriate time.

I loved Netware until Novell fucked it up with ConsoleOne.

My favourite thing was when users called for help because they’d deleted or accidentally overwritten a file and I’d use Salvage to restore it while they were still on the call. You could hear the relief in their voice when I told them to view the folder and then hit F5 to refresh it, and there was the file, as if by magic.

This isn’t funny as such, but I have it saved to my phone as every time I look at it I feel joyous.

I built a little program in VB6 that would sit and listen in the background for commands sent from a client program on another machine on the network.

Said client program was a music keyboard with computer keys labelled on them (a la OctaMED) and it would play the corresponding sound on the remote PC’s beeper.

I then added the ability to send RTTTL ringtones to it.

The confused looks on the students and teachers as some of the college machines started playing the Batman theme or Axel F despite no-one being sat at them was most amusing.

And it is for this kind of reason that all the computers had no speakers of any kind. Well, expect for the teachers/pupil in charge computer. Which my friend Doug found out by accidentally getting a little naked Saddam Hussein to shout of "SPANK MY NAKED ASS" repeatedly across the computer room. Which, unsurprisingly, attracted the attention of the entire room towards him.

It turns out the only way to stop this was by, indeed clicking on his running buttocks, at which point he proclaimed "Thanks, I was very naughty"

I almost died laughing.
