So our living room is, finally, plastered and ready for painting!
Image

But what colour? I have little or no artisticness and the lady doesn't either. At the minute we looking at a warm neutral shade aka brown. I'd love to be a bit more exciting but the fear of naffness grips me!

Existing colours in the room include the stained floor, a large black sofa and red curtains and a small red sofa.
Image
The red sofa might end up in another room though.

The room is 5m x 3.5m with slightly above average ceiling height, we also have the projector in there so we don't want it too light, however its north facing so can get a bit dark...decisions decisions!

I'd say something quite light to offset that dark floor.
What sort of light do you get in the room? How big is the window?

Its got a decent sized bay window, but its north facing so doesn't really get any direct sunlight.

The red curtains and sofa are quite "strong" so i'm unsure what colour would work with them...hence the brown neutralness of our current thinking.

If you've got a projector, don't you want white?

You don't have to paint every wall. In my lounge I have most walls a light cream, with one feature wall in chocolate brown.

We've got a screen that drops down in front of the bay to project onto.

Its white currently (breathable post plastering type paint) and I must say I quite like the clinical feel...but its also very cold feeling and such super bright walls aren't going to go well with projecting films.

Thats a good idea, we've got a wide chimney breast that might work in a different shade...

Zioette's mum redecorated our old flat when she moved back in and it looks really nice now, much better than it did when we used to live there together. The flat has oak effect laminate flooring throughout and she's used a very light pastel green on the walls in the living room, which combined with the old brown leather sofas we had and the oak-like dining table and chairs she has, it works really well. It feels like a very natural kind of colour scheme.

She's taken the little one on holiday for the week, otherwise I'd ask if I could take a sneaky photo to show what I mean.

I quite like the 'feature wall' thing. The place we are renting is done in a pretty similar style by the sounds of it.

In our living room we have a light blue chimney breast, light brown walls either side of that and the rest of the room is painted cream.

3 colours in one room! Amazing. :hat:

Same here, except ours is deep red.

I have 3 colours of brown, on oposite walls. ( there are more than 4 surfaces beacuse of the shape of the room, before you think kovacs is mental again).

It does look quite good..

Yeah, I'd say have a feature wall with a suitable colour and do the rest in an off white. Antique white is nice.

Don't forget that once your pictures etc are back up on the walls it won't look half as plain.

Yay! I had no idea it was actually called a feature wall, I just made it up, but it seems to be trending ;)

Yup the plan is to have some large prints/paintings...however that was also the plan for the last house (lived in for 4 years) and we never quite got around to getting any!

I was going to ask - no need to be that specific but how much would you your postman charge for that, Z?
And how big is it?

For that one I only supplied the full size digital artwork and DavPaz arranged his own printing and framing.

It was A2 I think.

It was delivered to me digitally and I had it printed. It's (checks) 60cm x 80cm and I got lucky with a frame in B&Q that was the exact right size.

edit: what he said.

Yes. Well, apart from the line drawing that was scanned in and overlayed.

Decisions have been made, paint has been applied.
Still feels very bare without anything on the walls, better than bare plaster though.
