I can agree. What I've never understood is the 3 second song phenomenon. A mate played an Anal Cunt album for me once and sometimes it takes longer to read the name of the songs than it does to listen to it.

This is pretty much what they are in 'extreme' metul, aye. They're there to provide texture and a sort of percussive effect rather than melody...

Nah, those are ace. Napalm death 'You Suffer' is the classic of that, I believe.

Lyrics are acceptable if they're in German or some other gutteral language, also.

I... don't really know. Can't explain it but he's never really excited me in his career.

This is my favourite vocal performance of all time.

11-year-old metal singer.

Man, that technique is going to destroy his vocal cords. By the time he's 18 he'll sound like Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge.

Black Breath update! On the third listen now, and it's another success. They're ruining it for everyone. Initial thoughts are that it's a lot less melodic (I know, right?) than the début, and lacks that Entombed rock n roll groove. It's more straight up in its rhythms, pounding like Gil Theelander. Really got interesting for me at the mid point - 'Endless Corpse' and 'Mother Abyss' bringing Mike Oldfield/Possessed ominous arpeggio and fucked up harmonies into the mix. On teh Entombed tip, I do like the backward masking fade in a la To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth. The shorter running time (10 songs in 32 mins rather than 40) reflects the fact the band is just meaner and more brutal on this one. Some really nice riffs. Might be backing the groove, but there's some real imagination in the riffage.

I'm not really that keen on metal, but there are some songs that I like, that are often classified as metal by other people, and I think isn't that just rock?

I don't really know the difference between the 2, I got given a Kerrang CD back in the 90s and I liked most of the songs on that, and I can see that most of them are faster/harder/louder than say oasis or whatever. But it's still stuff that I would consider heavy rock (if such a thing exists) rather than metal.

I've got that one too - certainly a lot better than some compilations, despite the Duff McKagan and Little Angels type stuff.

If it sounds like someone's throwing up, the band logo is unreadable, the cover is generic fake evil or someone's singing about being a table, it's metal. Of none of those is true, it's not.

Boo-urns... Maiden are only touring the States this year. It's their awesome Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour as well (saw this in '89 at the NEC), so it's fair to say I'd love to catch this gig, but a dedicated visit to the States is a bit much. :(

Here's hoping they bring the show back to the UK in 2013, but that's a long time to wait.

Very true mate; sadly though, I no longer have a VHS recorder. I wonder if anyone's ever ripped this to DVD; I'll get googling.

Personally, I prefer Maiden England even to Live After Death, although for me that's a bit like having to choose between my two kids! :D

Mind you, I loved the Donnington '92 vid as well. Man, was that really 20 years ago? Cripes...

It's a bit disappointing when Reeder filled in for Oliveri when he was daft with police a few months ago, and given Homme being videoed headbanging at their show. I think the dollar signs are maybe spinning in their eyes a bit.
