It is very good. Just not for listening to.

But if, for instance, you're going through some kind of existentialist crisis and think you're a table then I could see it being very handy. I know of no other album which speaks of such issues.

It's good for laughing along to and pulling confused looking faces at.

I bet Tinman and Scarecrow can hardly look at Hetfield now.

I tried some. It sounded like a one-man-band falling down a very long flight of stairs.

Grindcore, done well, is about as exciting as music gets.

@davpaz - I've seen a lot of bands/albums being described as 'musician(s) falling down stairs', and it's usually pretty complex music.

Well here's a rarity for you: a good Limp Bizkit song. Ooh! Slightly misogynistic, but, you know... Limp Bizkit.

Complex does not equal good.

And Limp Bizkit had many, many fine songs. They just ruined them by letting that tit Durst 'rap' over them.

Enjoyed the intro, more mock silent films in music videos please.

The song: Terrible diction, couldn't understand a word he was singing. and I feel they rushed through it, and generally played far too fast. The melody was quite confused and sometimes discordant. The bass had the tendency to get lost in all those needless drum hits, though I doubt we're missing work of Mark King (of Level 42) standard. All in all, a little disappointing. Quite frankly, I've heard better musicianship and vocals from the average pub band.

Graphics: 80% Quality silent film pastiche becomes usual 'watch the band play' footage

Sound: 23% Jaunty piano track segues into horrific mess

Gameplay: 2% Very limited interaction.

Overall: 35% Would not recommend, despite intro.

I never suggested that. But at the same time, complexity does not equal random noises.

Do find metal sometimes fails to live up to the song title and band name.

I mean, you'd want to hear Cerullian Transience of all my Imagined Shores by Disembowelment, right?

That's one's honestly better on paper.

Chock Full of Guts by Gutted is OK.

Heh, is that was Lemmy was doing? As far as I'm concerned, the unintelligible guttural growls originated with him.

Oh, and on the Fred Durst tip, I think he was really good in 1997. Well, not really good, but good. The 3:30-4:29 section of 'Stuck' is excellent post-RATM build and release.

Anyway, still not loud enough! Still not fast enough!

Jello Biafra sang the majority of his songs in a crystal clear fashion. So he could get his message across.

Then he became a fat cunt.

Vocal affectations mutating and evolving should be encouraged. That's simply what's taken place in metal. In the 70s/early 80 it was Rob Halford. Death Metal took the vocals deeper in the mid-late 80s. Second wave of black metal took then higher and introduced screeching. I couldn't live in a world where every fucker sings in an American accent in an attempt to sound like Whitney Houston. Oh, I do.

John tardy of Obituary sounds like no other fucker on this planet.

Same goes for Attila Csihar.

WONDERFUL!

I like grooviness over gravelyness.

It's a personal taste thing, that's all. I can see how the progression and to an extent the oneupmanship happened, same thing occurred with hardcore dance music when it began the descent into Gabba.

There's one-upmanship abounding in the B00tal Death Metal scene. That's why it's so stagnant and boring. You have, for want of a better word, violent music, you need vocals that hit the same area. Otherwise you end up with this.

I'd also like to point out that there are lady vocalists for death metal bands too.

Simone from Cerebral Bore

Runhild from Thorr's Hammer and her own solo stuff.

Rachel from Inifinited Hate/Sinister

And of course Angela from Arch Enemy

to name a few.

If you can resolve any of the words at all they're doing it wrong IMO. Same deal with the font on the album cover.
No vocals at all or just good old noise is preferable, and machine pattern drumming at 7000 BPM is my favorite type of metal record.

Further to what Dimrill said, what people fail to realise (or refuse to accept. Or are trolling) is that clean, cod-operatic vocals wouldn't work on most metal nowadays. Music gets heavier. If Kerry King riffed harder than Dave Murray, and Dimebag harder still, and Kurt Ballou et al more so, then why shouldn't the vocals reflect that?

There are bands that are heavy with melodic vocals, but only rarely does it work. The contrast is usually too great. It's like saying Brutal Truth's drummer should play more slowly.

I will admit that when I was getting into heavier music it sounded a bit like noise to me, I preferred the ballads etc. Really heavy music is one of those rare genres that you do need to develop a palette for.

I think this, for example, is one of the finest vocal performances I've ever heard (even Dimmers doesn't like this one):

Why bother with 'lyrics' at all then? If all you can come up with is Zardoz's gimp trying to cough up a particularly stubborn spunky hairball, and it's a good job because your lyrics are puerile nonsense... you'd be better off getting your guitarists to 'shred' even 'harder', and go with instrumentals.

Oh shit, you're serious. I have to defend heavy music to you? If heavy vocals aren't your cup of tea, fine.

Trying to belittle it because you don't like it is just rude.

Vocals are just another instrument to me anyway. I categorically fail to absorb any lyrics, and I don't sing along because what the fuck? So I don't give a shit if they're clean, shouty or guttural… as long as they fit the music, it's all good.
