Sleeping homeless man. I'm still not sure if I should post this, as I did not ask permission. It could be considered exploitative, but there was something strangely classical - even fairytale - about the scene as I walked past that tempted me to take it, even though the subject was completely unromantic and bleak. Still, I feel troubled over it. What do you think?

Mmm. It all comes down to personal perspective, doesn't it? Would you like someone to take your photo without your permission and then post it online? For me, the answer would probably be "no", so I don't think I'd do it to someone else.

I'm incredibly wimpish about taking people pictures, though.

Tent of the Rising Sun

This struck me today... it's one of the oldest buildings in the area (Bay and Dundas) and the roof is covered in cellular masts. Huge condos are being built directly north and south of it, and in every other direction are high rise office buildings.

Cool building. Let's hope they have a visitation by little floating sentient flying saucers that can help protect it against the hired goons sent by Mr Evil Property Developer.

The main occupant (TBBS) has been going since 1937 so I think they might be okay. I have just spent almost an hour searching and I cannot find any historical photographs of the building! I have a great photo of the streetcar tracks being rebuilt in 1923, but the photographer was standing next to the cussed building looking the exact opposite way!

Can't help but think I should have saved the Terrifying Santa photo for Christmas. Oh well.

The building on the left no longer exists. Silly America. Also, this took the most sweat & tears I've ever expended on correcting perspective distortion. It was like wrestling an alligator. Every time I tried to compensate one way it through another out of whack. Still, worth it.

A few from Sunday morning, Windermere shore:









Took your suggestion on the fishing boat one, Pete. I wish I'd had a faster shutter speed for the first swan picture, at least fast enough to keep its head a bit less blurred. Those swans were the friendliest I've ever seen, they were just coming right up to us all the time but with none of the narky 'tude that those creatures normally seem to have.

It's a shame about the swans head but a lovely shot all the same. Great set of photos.

Swans are frightfully difficult to photograph, you think you've got it but then you notice just how weird they actually look. Plus it's hard to judge the focal depth with their beaky-necky width. Still, I really like the blur of the wing.

It does make a nice abstract, that speedboat. First time I saw it I thought of that early highspeed photograph of a bullet flying along showing its rifled shockwave-trail.

The planked jetty makes a neat leading line, pointing to the yacht. That's some dense mist that day - very atmospheric! I also like the tree looming out of the mist. Mind if I have a play with some of those in Lightroom? I wouldn't mind experimenting and playing with them a little!

Nice, heavy feel and spooky too with the hooded figure.

Hope you don't mind... but I think it would look stronger like thus ('shopped the top).

Nice crop Zardoz, it changes the emphasis towards the figure definitely lurking and waiting outside. To be honest, when I captured the image I was intending for them to simply to be walking, was a bit surprised it looked creepier than that.

I do like having the side windows and drapes though, it adds a touch of isolation and places the viewer a bit more. Both are valid, tbh.
