Heh. It was taken from my inlaws summer cottage, about 45 minutes outside of the city. So in Canadian terms, "just down the road".
(Note how I've also fallen into the odd Canadian way of describing distances by time taken to get there, rather than something sensible like miles or kilometres).

I've never shot on the dancefloor before, but the weirdness that was the Beer Barn at the Detling reenactment festival was irresistable.

Not sure how they look, am uploading with a crummy monitor and they look all grainy and odd on this one, but on the laptop they look okay. Hope they are. Seeing Nazis dance to Footloose ranks as all time weirdest experience, probably.

And as with previous years, I completely failed to pull. Though almost got recruited to Queen Vicky's army, till the sergeant asked how attached I was to my beard.

I like this one that Mrs AE took 'by accident' yesterday.

It was AE Jnr's eighth birthday party during the day, and then we went over to the park to finish the day off, this was taken on the way home, just a random 'point and click' job with a Sony phone, but the setting sun through the tree really gave it something a bit more.

Couple more butterfly pics, sorry.

Pretty pleased with these as they were taken using my 55-200mm lens.

Nice flutterbys. I especially like how it's nearly a mirror image in the top one. That 55-200mm is one deceptively sharp lens!

I had Aaron Copland's 'Saturday Night Waltz' playing on the stereo while editing this just now. Have a listen, it's great. Anyway, this is going to kickstart another little wave of American photographs. Wish I was over there, exploring again. Next year, for sure.

This was taken with the cheap-as-60-portions-of-chips Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. The older non-VR version. They know their stuff. :)

Nice work chaps! Pete, love the farm shot. Nice and crisp and great clouds in the background.

MA - love the top shot of the Toronto skyline. You framed it really beautifully. I'd love to see a night-time long exposure shot taken from that spot.

The last time I took that picture, I was over to the left of the little green space, so I got the downtown core in the picture instead of the endless row of harbourfront condos. Oh well, I'll try again.

Pennsylvanian Industry

This one was taken in pretty twilight conditions, from a moving coach window, on my 35mm prime so there was no room for reframing. F/2.8 at ISO 1250 at half past nine in October! I'm pleased at how reasonable it came out. Wish it had slightly more give at the top, though.

My first good photo of a horse. Pro tip: Lie down or crouch on the ground when taking photo.

That horse appears to be trotting towards you. I'm not convinced I'd want to be lying down in front of it at that point.

You can't make an omelette photograph without breaking some eggs craniums.

I did realise I was pushing my luck, though! Was ready to roll out the way at one point! :)

Excellent - very nicely captured. The guy on the right seems to be enjoying it a bit too much, maybe!

One more from me - back to the landscapes, and a majestically calm afternoon at the lake. I just managed to snap this before a motorboat began shooting back and forth, permanently ruining the serenity.

Just got my first roll of film I properly shot without destroying back from the developers. Four were terribly underexposed, three were fuzzy, two were double exposures and one was just plain meh. But these two I like...

Candle

Sometimes I privately gripe against my D90 with the demands of its crop sensor in low light (which is the only light for me, really) forcing me to shoot at difficult speeds. My mind turns to a full frame, like the D600, and I think of how much more awesome all my photos would look if I just bought a better camera.

And then the D90 smugly manages to pull of a great shot with ISO 1000 in low light and it reminds me why I fell in love with it. :luv: you D90! Taken this weekend in a wood, approaching dusk. Cripes.

Strange but purdy. What is it? (Don't say 'a white hole'.)

Okay, brace yourselves here. I shot 24 frames of 120 film on the old Yashica Mat 124G. One reel got destroyed as a misaligned plate inside essentially double-exposed everything. Good job I discovered it at the time so I didn't have the heartbreak of developing it. The other reel was largely fine with only a couple of double exposures, but only six made my cut. Fortunately I went in hoping against hope for just one good one of the bride and groom, which I got. Everything else was a bonus.

Man, film's a brutal fucker. Not much leeway, and I was manually exposing by rule of thumb, gauging the light and adjusting according to shutter vs aperture calculations based on the Sunny 16 rule. The math seemed to have worked though. Phew.

Here's the results...

Pricy shooting film though, think I'll stick to digital mostly in't future!

You've done a great job there, Pete! A really great job, actually.
Oh, and congratulations to the happy couple!
