Ah, fair enough. I'd just assumed Scottish>rangers>English.

Mrs Chris was pissing herself laughing at the Rangers fans on the news crying, yes CRYING and BLUBBING LIKE GIRLS because the big screen didn't work and they couldn't watch the feetballs.

Also, I've never understood people who go travel to somewhere to watch the footie on a chuffing telly. Stay at home and you could buy an extra crate of Tennants!

Indeed! What happened to that chap, anyway? I hope he isn't too bad. What a bunch of absolute pansy cunts.

And good on Mrs. Chris. I was almost crying with laughter watching them crying with emotion. The pansy cunts.

I suppose after a while there's no longer any challenge beating up the missus and kids, is there? And a change is as good as a rest, and all that.

Looking at the 606 forums the Rangers fans are blaming Chelsea fans for starting the violence.

Sorry lads, Chelsea fans? Might have been abit more convincing if you'd picked a team slightly closer to Manchester.

The Police however aren't usually as quick to release such footage when it is they who are being brutal.

Did anyone really expect anything other than this to happen?

Normally I'd say something like "Well hang on, it's only a minority of the fans causing trouble and smashing things and faces, we shouldn't tar them all with the same brush" but in this case the violence, etc seems to have gathered around the big screen and pubs showing it, not the stadium itself. And frankly it takes a specific sort of fuckwittery to travel 100 miles south to watch a football on the TV. They have TVs in Scotland, I checked.

"But it's about the atmosphere mate innit"

Well yes, and had all the supporters that didn't have tickets stayed in Glasgow it'd been a 'great' atmosphere there to. There was absolutely no fucking reason whatsover for them to travel en-masse to another city, unless they were intending to cause trouble. Although Manchester co-operating by putting up a big screen are idiots too. Though not plugging it in was priceless.

And apparently it's fucked things over for the Man U supporters who would have been able to watch their game on big screens in the city next week.

Although obv they will be more used to watching things on TV. What with living in London and all.

I'm so completely out of this discussion, but are Rangers fans really bad even for british standards?
Is Glasgow such a bad city to visit? I've been wanting to go to scotland for some years, but forum discussions make me believe that all of Britain is a foul, violent place.

Even including Glasgow, Britain is far better in every way than your sausage-munching, garlic be-odoured, siesta-ing, sheep-burning Continent. ;)

Glasgow's got a reputation for being a complete shithole. I wouldn't really know, I've never been, although my sister has and says that they city centre's quite nice and smart, but then that could go for pretty much any city in the UK. The rest of it doesn't sound very pleasant. But as Mr. Chris said, at least everywhere doesn't smell of garlic.

hey, that's a nice derivative "insult" Mr.Chris, but completely ineffective since we don't have any of those in here. And we also know other ways of cooking fish besides frying them.

Tmuk: What's with the garlic obsession? Garlic makes food better, it's good for your health, and its also a good pickup line e.g. "Does my mouth still smells of the garlic from the pizza i ate yesterday?"

The centre of Glasgow is actually very nice. Lots of neo-classic architecture and that. It's just the outskirts you need to avoid. A helicopter would be ideal if planning a visit.

Friend of mine moved up there to work for a radio station. Spent a year there and said the entire city smelt of chips. He also claims never to have understood a single word that any cab driver ever said to him. The centre is nice enough, but there are parts that are as rough as you are ever likely to see.

Was this really about football, or was it just an excuse to indulge in a some violent bigotry ?
Don't a lot of Rangers fans actually come from Northern Ireland ?.

It seems sectarianism and hooliganism have long been inseperable from Scottish (especially Glaswegian) football:

With Celtic and Rangers both go hand in hand. Nasty evil fans no matter how the clubs try to gloss over it. They make Leeds and Millwall fans look like a model of moderation and tolerance frankly.

It's as if one guy, sat in that white chair watching the big TV, has generated all that rubbish himself, noshing all his crisps and beer and chocs and just chuckling the rubbish about.

Rangers drew earlier, which probably means Celtic have the upper hand again now, in the league. I've no feelings for Celtic, but would be amusing to see Rangers miss out on the title, after the events of the other day.

Yep. I'm a Leeds fan and I went to Manchester a few weeks ago.

I actually left it tidier than it was when I arrived.

I saw this in the mirror (the paper) on the weekend I think, a tiny article about how the person getting bit was a convicted murderer who had spent 18 years in prison for killing his brother in law. had a quote from a police officer,

'when we found out who it was, we sent the dog to get a tetanus jab.'
