It's my dads funeral tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it but looking forward to seeing everyone. Weird isn't it? I'm also reading the eulogy that he wrote before he passed away. I've been practicing all week so hopefully I'll be able to get through it. It's definitely going to be one of the hardest days I've had to cope with for a while... I just keep thinking of him and the things he said to me before he died. I'm sure I can do it.

Two of the hardest things I've done were waiting to read the eulogies I wrote for my parents. I'm not great at public speaking at the best of times, but the pressure I felt for wanting to get it right was untrue. When it was time to read them, I actually felt okay, I mean I falterd, wobbled and cried, but it felt right to be doing, and this was with my zip breaking in my trousers 30 minutes before the service started! Everyone was supportive and was there for the same reason. It was odd like you mentioned (it was great seeing everyone that I hadn't seen for ages) but it was fitting.

I did a reading at my brother's funeral and I'm not sure anyone understand a word I was saying because I rushed through it so quickly as I was desperately trying not to break down in tears. So, my only advice is to take it slow. Still, my babbled speech was nothing compared to the woman dressed like a hooker, the other woman with the DTs and the probably a drug dealer dude with the constantly ringing telephone (complete with cat mew ringtone).

This. No-one's going to be expecting you to be delivering a speech as if you'd just won an Oscar or something like that - even those who've never had to go through it will be able to empathise with you, it's easily one of the most emotional times in anyone's life.

Good luck, everything will be fine - you'll be able to celebrate your father's life with the people that are close to you and the people that were close to him, and give him the send off that he assuredly deserves.

So my dads funeral was yesterday and this should really go in the Yay thread as it was a great day. There were loads of people there and it was nice to catch up with everyone. I got through the eulogy and even if I say so myself, I did a great job. I could get used to people telling me how fantastic I was!

It was exactly the send off that my dad would have wanted and now, he's only a thought away.

When I got to my uncle Jeff's funeral I was expecting it to be weepy. I was terribly sad. I also felt really bad for not visiting him in the final days, because of what it would have done to me mentally. I did, however, get to put a rose on his coffin and say a quick prayer for him.

It wasn't the funeral I was expecting. Jeff had coordinated it all and sorted it before he passed, so with his wishes it was made clear it was not a religious funeral, but a goodbye to those he loved.

And it was amazing, and it was beautiful and getting the whole family together (something we don't often manage as there are a lot of us) was just incredible. There were no tears, and we had a lovely day.

Not what I was expecting at all, and totally a yay moment.

I just hope and pray my funeral is just like that. I want every one to get together and have a great time.

Off the top of my head, the minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and 3 penalty points added to your licence. You could be disqualified from driving if you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of 3 years. If you’re stopped by the police for the speeding offence, they can either: send you the details of the penalty, send the case straight to court or if you weren’t stopped by the police for the speeding offence (eg it was caught by speed camera), the vehicle’s registered keeper must be sent a notice of intended prosecution within 14 days. You may have to go to court if you ignore the notice.

Also, it's recommended not to cheat on the person who's giving you an alibi.

Our dog Jake died yesterday. We’re in bits. He had lymphoma; we gave chemo a go and he made it six weeks but it must have been resistant or had already spread through his body because he suddenly went downhill fast. It happened on the day we were moving house and he was hospitalised at a specialist vets an hour’s drive away. Fortunately the movers let me go and I was able to get a hire car and break some driving laws and be there with him at the end.

This is hard. I'm currently sat in a pub just up from our old house. I have to go there in a bit for the final inspection and key handover. It's very difficult to be there without Jake. Earlier, I walked out the back door to check something, saw the garden, and burst into tears; he loved that garden, loved to sit out there and sniff the breeze. We'd leave the back door open on warm days and he'd wander in and out as he pleased.

And once we give the keys up, that's a link to him that's gone forever.

Sigh.

I also got teary when I walked past the hire car I used to get to him last week. I will walk a different way back.

I'm so sorry Rich. It's heartbreaking losing a beloved family pet at the best of times, but during a house move I just can't imagine how you've got through it. He was extra special, that's for sure.
