I had that for a while during New year. I did lose loads of weight though, down to 12stone 4 now.

Realised this morning that my work's sick pay policy is a sliding scale of 1-3 weeks, depending on length of service... and I'm at the bottom. Consequently, rather stressed. Went to see them today to drop my sick note in and - fair play - HR lady told me to "not worry about pay at all, we've known you long enough to look after you". This has really made my day.

Good job she didn't say that she would "take care of you".

I only had statutory sick pay for the four months I was off. It plunged me into debt* and was incredibly stressful.

*though I was incredibly careless with my money. I met Miss Malabar shortly after my accident so spent a hell of a lot more than I should have. All of my money problems have always been entirely my own fault, but the SSP didn't help at all.

I first heard that from Clement Freud, and I love it as much now as I did then.

Today is my last working day at the old job. 1 Feb should be the day I start the new job, but over the weekend one of the two partners went batshit crazy, had what appeared to be a mental breakdown, and said he'd review all the case files we have and decide whether or not he was going to pull out of the company. As he's the 'supervising solicitor' the company can't continue without him.

Yesterday he went into the office and removed the other partner's laptop and locked it in his car, then put all the guy's personal belongings on the pavement and announced he was sacking him for gross misconduct (the actual 'misconduct' was making enquiries about setting up a new website for the business). He's now stuck with about 80 cases to settle, but can't do that as he doesn't understand that side of the business or the case management software.

We're now looking to buy him out and bring in another managing solicitor as an employee, if we can just get the finance together, otherwise I'll joining the queues of ex-civil servants wanting shelf filling jobs at ASDA.

Nasty, but at least you've got a diagnosis and it is, as you say, manageable and treatable.

Well, good job you went to have it checked rather than just ignoring it and waiting for it to go away by itself, which is probably what I would have stupidly done.

Fairly quickly, I think. Then stay on the meds long term to avoid a re-occurance. It'll make flying difficult in the future -- I'll have to wear those pressure stocking things on long haul, and be diligent about exercising. Same thing with driving too.

Man, dealing with Bitfenix has been a fucking nightmare

I got my case in December (the new one). Everything seemed fine at first but then I noticed the front was not clipping in properly. So, I put my back into it a bit and got it on. Then when fitting the hardware everything seemed skew whiff. It still hadn't dawned on me something was wrong.

When I first fired it up the fan made a horrible noise and then a loud bang before jamming itself. Upon inspection the inner blades had hit the outer housing and one of the blades had snapped off.



So I contacted Bitfenix who offered me a replacement case (RMA). Thing is I had already sold my spare PC and right now I'm doing my hospital and doc appointments via email. In the end he was relieved to offer me just a replacement fan. Then the next morning I turned on the PC and the red LED that usually greeted me (pic)



Had stopped working. I was still adamant I did not want to strip the entire thing down as I had spent two days wiring it and so forth (pic)



So I just replaced the LED myself.



That was five weeks ago. The replacement fan I was promised never matierialised after about two weeks so I botched in a 140mm Noctua (usually a 200mm in there so I had to put it in ghetto using cable ties).



And due to it not fitting properly (nor being intended to) air flow out the top is now cack. So, three days ago I decided to contact Bitfenix again who choose to skip through my emails, ignore what I have said and offer me an RMA on the case

It's so fucking frustrating. The last thing I want to do is completely strip the whole fucking thing and rebuild it. I just don't have the patience. All I need is a stupid fan. A cheap, non LED, stupid fan. But instead they seem hell bent on replacing the entire case. I wonder how long they will stay in business with those methods?

I'm glad they've found the problem and I'm really glad you decided to go to the hospital when you started feeling unwell. I hope the treatment becomes a wee bit easier and less painful

I'm not panicking. Matt's already talking to people about finance/management and buying the loony out, and my retirement bung will give me enough of a cushion to keep the wolves at bay until we get something sorted out.

I've tried that and I still plummet to the ground. I'm going to stick to flying in aircraft in future.

I must say though, every time I slip into my stockings it feels like I'm walking on air.

A 200mm case fan costs £7.

Is it worth all your time, hassle and concern for a £7 fan?

I had a similar experience a few months back with chest pains, but it went away, they thought it might have been a minor PE, but it was unconfirmed, and I didn't have major other symptoms, eg breathlessness, but I know what you are going through Doc. Glad to hear you got a diagnosis, and that it is treatable. Also, the cannula was strangely the thing that made me feel worst when I went in for my op a couple of years ago. It kind of brought it home to me, I looked down at it and kind of panicked.
