She was awful. She was an awful, awful presenter. The chap was great, she was just awkward.

She was ace. She wasn't a very good presenter, but she was still ace.

She was great at showing disdain for the fools trying to be clever when announcing the points.

It's Graham Norton's job to snipe at the points guys.

Unlike last year when I struggled to find anywhere showing it in Berlin (!), I'm looking forward to watching it this Saturday. I don't do the semis, and never watch the British entry until the night itself. Also, my mum just described Eurovision on the phone to me as 'the continental sing-song' .

Speaking of last year's, I was by chance in the small town in Sweden where their entry came from (Ystad) during Eurovision week, and as such the locals had much to talk about as I paid through the nose for beers.

This flag procession looks like that bit in 'Stars in their Eyes' just after they've told Matthew who they're going to be. The fireworks and flags are nice though.

Israel: like the pulsating background. Shouldn't have bothered with the 'breaking me to pieces' graphic. Yeah, we get it. The backing dancers were clearly chosen to make the singer look better, but he doesn't need that support. Obviously, I'm only judging his musical talents.

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Blimey, she's got a voice. And, er, other assets. I feel like they missed out a key change or a power bridge. The lyrics and staging suggest there should be one, but nothing's changed. She's giving it her all, but the accompaniment is dreary. It's not crap, and it's better than previous years, but depressingly mediocre.

Fireworks bonus!

Just waiting for Belgium. They have the best song. Just hope the girl isn't terrified to be on stage like in the semi final.

The UK has a good song for a change! It was written by the adorable Danish winner of 2013,

Germany: Well, it seems 'The Trumpcut' is in this season. Again, this is another one where I'm pretty sure it'll be on constant rotation on Radio 2 if it isn't already. She's giving it some gusto however, and there's certainly a sense of a journey in the song. So, er, 73%?

Belgium: Lyrics and tune are fine, but there's no passion from the singer. Even in the sad bits she's not really demonstrating any feeling for it. Did she get dumped just before going onstage? Has her cat died? Is she one of the really-not-zombies from tonight's 'Doctor Who'?

Surprisingly deep voice for a female singer bonus!

Bulgaria: If he can sing like this without Autotune he'll go far. But again, no power or passion where it feels like it's needed. Not his fault, I think it's the accompaniment. Oh, I want to like this, I really do, but...after 23 songs it's hard to be surprised and moved. And is it me or do most of the male acts tonight need better hair cuts?

France: If you're calling it 'Requiem', you're up against Fauré.
Still, this one feels like it's at the right tempo. Shame I can only get subtitles in the original language - back in the day you used to be able to get a translation and I'd like to know what they're singing. And as I typed that, on cue they switched to English.
