Gods damnit I've just stumbled in the kitchen and continued to stumble all the way into The Den and stumbled into my keyboard and stumbled on five clicks on my mouse and the copper set of dice are now ordered.

Have you tried critical role or the adventure zone yet? It’s how I fix my D&D obsession when I’m having a day without a D&D game in it.

Since the feather doesn't specify a monetary value, you'll have one in your component pouch or will be able to use an arcane focus instead.

Which reminds me, you need to decide if you use a component pouch or an arcane focus. The arcane focus can be anything but if you lose it, you lose the ability to cast spells until you get a replacement or a component pouch so don't make it something loseable. A cleric might decide their arcane focus is a holy symbol they wear round their neck which they grasp when they cast a spell.

None of my spells currently need any material components, so I'm going for the purely yelling and hand-waving type of magic.

Having look at level 3 thingies, I am going to need a focus or component pouch. So Ivo is going to use his holy symbol as an arcane focus. It's the symbol of Xunt engraved on a jagged hunk of greenish glass that hangs around his neck. The edges of the glass are sharp enough to cut yourself on, and if you stare at the symbol for too long your brain starts to itch and your teeth hurt and you'll have strange dreams. It represents Xunt's love for all mortals, and his mercy and his grace.

I tried Critical Role a while back but it didn't quite click with me, but I only really gave it a few mins. I'll take a look ad Adventure Zone, but since WFHing full time, my podcast time has shrunk considerably, as I used to listen on my commute.

:D I was also looking at what to do at level 3. Getting ahead of ourselves again, maybe. Who's to know though because the DM hasn't given us our XP for Monday's sesh. ;)

Is it Monday yet?

I'm tempted by "Aspect of the Moon" at level 3, which will mean I NEVER NEED TO SLEEP. EVER.

Thanks for reminding me, I meant to post about this earlier in the week. If it’s ok with all of you, I think we’ll go for milestone levelling. I don’t want to railroad you into doing things in a particular order, or force you into multiple skirmishes with lower level enemies just so you grind out the necessary xp to level. I also don’t want you completing a significant section of the adventure and not level up because of something weird. Instead, I’ll have certain milestones in the adventure and when you pass it, you’ll all level up at that point.

Is that ok? I’d expect you’ll hit my next milestone in the next couple of sessions so you’re not too far away from level 3.

Absolutely fine by me, I’ll expect that will upset members of the party who like harvesting ears though.

I started watching Critical Role when I was ill one day and wasn’t doing anything other than lying on the couch feeling sorry for myself so the slow pace of a livestream was exactly what I needed. Once it came out on podcasts I binged my way through it during my commute and dog walks but I still find myself checking in on YouTube episodes when something particularly epic or exciting is happening.

When season two started, I found it a bit more difficult to get into because they were starting at level 1 with minimal cool powers and class features but this campaign has turned into something truly epic again. I absolutely adore it and every member of the cast.

The Adventure Zone is quite different. I think the humour would appeal to you all and it is much funnier than critical role but they somehow managed to turn a very lighthearted comedy D&D podcast into an epic adventure that makes you laugh, cry and love the characters. Again I have to warn though, don’t listen to it until I tell you it’s ok because they start playing the adventure we’re playing before they diverge into a home brew word. I’ve modified the adventure a bit from the written module but there are still a lot of similarities so I wouldn’t want you inadvertently getting spoilers.

Fine by me! It'll hopefully mean if there's any sidequests we won't run ahead of the eminys and become bored with dispatching them.

Works for me! One fewer set of numbers to worry about, and it means we can sneak, bribe and intimidate our way through problems without worrying about missing out

I think it would entirely depend on circumstance.

Polymorph on the other hand would almost certainly always result in a lovely bout of regurgitation when the spell ended, if you’d been unfortunate enough to eat anyone

I mean, I'm sure it's not beyond your wits to find it. I found yours via dnd beyond campaign.

Is not 100% accurate, due to not all options from the phb being available.

It'll be even less accurate at level 3, as I'll almost certainly be taking a college from Xanathars guide to everything.

I think I need to give this tusk pendant to either Ivo or Shuu as they have much better intimidate stats than me.

A friend of mine has shared his digital library on D&D Beyond with me where he has every book published so I’ve been able to read through the adventure outlines of some of the other adventures I’ve been considering incorporating into this one. This has been a massive help because I’ve been quite indecisive and would have had to have bought all of them to make a decision, or bought one and just gone with it.

Anyway, the end result is that I have a pretty good idea of where the story will go next and if we all keep playing, we’ll be able to reach level 12 at least on this current adventure which means we could be playing once a week for a year and still have stuff going on in the adventure! This is very exciting because it’s quite common for a D&D group to run out of steam around level 5.

I would get quite weepy when Ermintrude maxes out. From what I understand there's not much "end game" content.

Max level is level 20 and I would love to reach it, the character abilities are so cool at that level! I think there is a system for some reward if you keep playing at level 20 but it’s not really the same so it would be best to retire the characters and roll a new party. This is all theoretical though. It would be an incredible and unlikely achievement to reach level 20.
