That would be great but if it's a big faff don't stress. We got on all right last night with descriptions and how you revealed the new parts, we all have over active imaginations so that probably helps :)

Yeah, the little map reveal thing and your descriptions worked really well for me. I'm more than happy to carry on as-is if it's a hassle.

Also, Ermintrude charging forward on the ox cart with a lute-playing Schuu on the back reminded me a little of this:

I remembered something that might have helped my brave retreat and attacks from the shrubs!
Mask of the Wild - Wood Elf Trait: You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.

:nerd: It’s as if nature itself cloaks a wood elf from prying eyes—even eyes staring right at the elf! Both subraces are capable of hiding in situations unavailable to most other creatures, but neither subrace’s hiding attempt is assured of success; a Dexterity (Stealth) check is required as normal, and an observant foe might later spot a hidden halfling or elf: “I see you behind that guard, you tricksy halfling!” :nerd:

Lots of the races have cool little extras like that. Ermintrude is resistant to poison, and Schuu and Ivo are harder to charm or magically put to sleep. Myptik is a human so he's pretty standard.

Nah, don’t worry. We have plenty to be getting on with and I’m already browsing for ideas for the adventure after this one so don’t worry, we have enough material to be playing for years.

@Zardoz: Yes, Mask of the Wild would absolutely have helped. I'd have ruled that because it's an innate ability, you could have rolled a stealth check to see if you were hidden just by your nature and being in that environment, rather than it being an action to decide to hide.

@Zardoz and @Squirt The immune to charm thing can come in clutch. I was playing a monk in a game (I think it was a Tomb of horrors one shot) and we had to fight a beholder who charmed me into fighting on their side. Monks have an ability called Presence of Mind i think, where they use an action to still their mind and free themselves of outside influences. It meant i was able to act like I was still charmed to use my movement to approach my party without being attacked by the beholder but then flee the room. They were only staying back to save me so without that ability, we were facing a TPK.

Zardoz wrote:

:this: I'm already browsing for more things to buy. Once we're a few sessions in we can talk about what aspects are people's favourites: intrigue, puzzles, exploring cities, fighting giant monsters etc. That will help me decide what we move onto next. I'm really interested in exploring Waterdeep and in Curse of Strahd and either of them could be a great follow on, either as a continuation or for new characters.

I think the part will reach Level 2 after next session so I'll let you know to level up as well. As you level, try and think of where you party has gained experience to make him evenly matched with this party.
So far, the party have survived a goblin ambush, navigated traps and have manouvered their way around six goblins and three wolves with a fair amount of chopping goblins in half for good measure.

I'll gladly illustrate a key moment from each session. Session one already has 'The Haul' but I'll do you a slice of the action. SDG or anyone else care to summarise in words?

Oh SDG, something I was going to ask about spells, I chose a pool of four that I can have two uses from per day:
Animal Friendship
Cure Wounds
Detect Magic
Detect Poison and Disease

Would I need to level up before I can add to my pool or can I alter swap what I know? ...think I missed a trick for helping the group by not having Goodberry.

Druids can change their spells every long rest - https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/druid#ClassFeatures, but you won't get more than a pool of four and 2 lots until you level up.

You prepare your spells from the Druid list at the end of a long rest. So you wake up each day and spend a little time preparing the spells for the day, which mechanically means you get to choose a fresh list if you want, or swap specific spells in and out with the only limitations being it only happens after a long rest, it's only the number of spells you're allowed to know (wis mod + druid level) and it's only of levels you have slots for.

I had a choice of either £1.99 for a set from the Orient. £3.99 for a set tomorrow-ish or £5.99 for 7 sets each with their own soft touch pouch! All high quality plastic.

The METAL ones look nice.

I love the polished stone dice, like these ones.

If you want to see spendy, how about some Damascus Steel dice. 8)

You've wandered into a whole new world of tempting accessories to spend money on. I always check out the dice sets when I go to a game shop. I love my dice bag as well, I got it on Etsy.

Gilly, has the monster manual been replaced with the tome of foes, or is that an addendum?

Roll20 is a pretty good but it’s a pig to figure out. The interface is pretty opaque. Feel free to ask “how do I...” type questions, I think I know the tool pretty well now.

That's really good to know, thank you. I used the maps and fog of war to hide parts last night but I didn't know how to bring character tokens onto the map and I wasn't confident the fog of war was working because the visual clues weren't consistent so I had to take a gamble and ask what everyone saw, which fortunately was only what I wanted them to see, then uncover sections at a time with the reveal tool.
For next week, I'd ideally like to be able to drop character tokens onto the maps and come away from augmented theatre of the mind style so I'll do some more tutorials and then maybe come back with specific questions.

Broadly, if I understand you correctly:

(1) First make an image for each PC. This is a useful tool: http://rolladvantage.com/tokenstamp/
(2) Upload these images to your roll20 library. ProTip: file them away now, don't let it get too messy or it becomes a pain to manage.
(3) Drag the image to the tabletop to make a token.
(4) Double click the token. Change things in here you want to change [1]. First thing is "Represents Character"; select whichever PC this token is for. Set "Controlled By" to the player, and perhaps set the Token Bars up to represent hitpoints and whatever else you want. Probably tick "show nameplate". Set the player permissions to be able to see the bars and the nameplate.
(5) Once you have the token looking how you want, go into your roll20 Journal and open the settings page for the character.
(6) Click Edit. Go back to the tabletop and click your new token. Go back to the settings box and select "set default token".

Now, every time you drag the character sheet from the journal to the tabletop, you should get the correct token show up, controlled by the correct player. Fog of war / dynamic lighting should work.

To make any changes to the character's default token, you need to drag it out to the tabletop, change stuff, go back into the character settings, remove their existing default token, and save the new one.

Once you do this, you can delete the tokens at will, as you can always get them back.

[1] There's a lot you can do in here, beyond what I've said above, but I'm not sure what'll be useful to you. Can go through that later.

It’s additional. The monster manual and dungeon masters guide aren’t really necessary if you’re not DMing.

Later books like Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes and Volo’s Guide to Monsters are supplementary material which expands on a specific setting with lore and monsters, so probably more worth it for DMs but they often have some bonus class types, like a new Druid circle or a new god for a cleric, and sometimes some new spells as well. It depends on the DM if they let you use material from the additional books as sources.

I think of the extra books, some of the ones more interesting to players are Xanathars Guide and Tasha’s Cauldron(brand new out this week!) because they contain more player options again and some player relevant lore.
