Can't wait to harvest the poisonous spider we haven't even seen yet! I hope it's challenge rating keeps it within my shapeshifting reach too.

And just to mock z, it turns out the spider is actually just a squirrel with a wand of spider biting.

My level up rolls have been stupid good.

I don't think I've rolled an 8, but I don't think I've had under a 6..

Although I'm looking at it and thinking the maths doesn't work and I've made a mistake somewhere. I might check.

Edit, I tell a lie, I did to an 8 on going to level 2.
I remember being quite smug.

Yeah, by my maths you'd have a max of 44, so I guess two 7's and an 8!

I think the die may be quite 8 happy. IIRC, on monday I rolled it 4 times and got two 5s and two 8s.

Although i think it's given me some rubbish numbers for rapier damage.

Actually, with Myptic's research skills, Ermintrude's forging ability and Gundren's mining know-how,.do you reckon we could craft some fancy magical doodabs in the Forge of Spells?

It’s not over active, it’s perfectly normal!

We could take the forge back with us in the bag of holding.

I think I may have been doing levelling up wrong. I've not rolled for nowt, just pressed level up on the D&D beyond site.
The Player's Handbook is as clear as mud about it too. It says that I gain an additional "hit die" each level. What is this sorcery?!

Okay, think I've read it right now after doing some searching online. At level 2 I roll a d10 hit dice and add that plus my constitution modifer to me hit points, right? Then at level 3 I use 2 d10s. BUT! do I add my constitution modifier to each dice roll, or to the total of the dice rolls?

I think when you level up, you can either take a preset amount of hit points, or a number based on a roll of a die. Obviously, one of these can go very badly (or very well).
I just went with the option thtat meant more rolling of dice.

Which method you use would've been set on the very first page when setting up your character I believe.

That's what I assumed after reading more online. But does I add my constitution modifier to each d10 or the total of all the dice? I get an extra d10 per level to add, y'see. Cos taking the total then the modifier my HP is now 60, whereas adding it to each die I get 74. The second one sounds a bit excessive.

I’ve just let D&D beyond do it for me too.

...actually I could ‘generate’ my animal hp that way each time I wild shape, could I sdg?

broadly, i let dndbeyond deal with the constitution stuff. I just roll a die and add the total onto the "rolled hp" amount

As I understand it, every time you level up, you add 1d10 + your CON mod to your total. So on a given level uo, you could gain between 4 and 13hp. HOWEVER the COn mod applies retroactively, so if you boosted your CON, you'd add an extra point per level.

See as a fighter I gain an additional d10 per level. So I had 1 for levels 1-2, 2 for 2-3, and 3 for 3-4. My start HP was 13 (10 plus my const +3). I rolled a 7 for levels 1-2, +3 const for a total of 10 extra. Levels 2-3 went an 8 and a 7 on my d10s, BUT(!) do I add my +3 const to each of those dies, or just the 15.... TEACHER!

Look at you! Rushing in with your dice rolling! You could have rolled yourself DEAD! Or worse!!!

You should have stayed safe with the computers choice.

Your hit die is determined by your class which is why some people roll a d8 and some roll a d10 or even a d12.

When you level up, you roll one of your hit die and take the result plus your con mod to get the total you add to your current HP. This becomes your new HP max.

Each level, you also add another hit die to the pool you have available to roll during a short rest. So if you have three hit die available to roll during a short rest, and you gain a hit die when you level up, you now have a pool of four available. During your short rest, if you are below your HP max you can roll any number of available hit die and take the result to replenish your HP. You can wait to see the result of each roll before deciding if you want to roll another until either you’re back at max or you have used all the available hit die. Any left over can be used in a subsequent short rest so you need to mark them off as you use them. The pool is replenished after your next long rest.

Is that clear? I’ve written it while children are talking to me so I hope it makes sense.

AHHHHHH! So it's a pick the best rather than all together. Gotcha.

Edit: Right, done that and now I'm 46 HP instead of the paltry 41 I had from stupid computer.

What do you mean pick the best? When you level up, you roll one die and take that result plus your con mod.

The alternative option is to take the class suggested HP increase which is usually the average of the die roll. So if you usually roll a d12, you could instead just take 7+con mod.

You also get one extra d6 to heal with if you heal during a short rest due to the beautiful songs of Shuu. (although the rules are unclear as to whether I can do this alongside healing myself/ attuning to magical item)

Alas, its exactly as damagey (and damage typey) as the rapier, which would actually receive a damage boost when I get strongererer.. Appears to be essentially
the same weapon but without the ability to use dex for it and heavier.

You might have seen this before but even if you have I think you’d enjoy it now with your D&D player experience.

Making sense of Lord of the Rings through the lens of it being a D&D campaign.

So, we were playing the Golden Heroes campaign today and had a query regarding the rules. I noticed that Simon Burley has a Twitter account and asked for clarification...got a response within 20 minutes and a blessing that we were playing a game over 30 years old (with no expansions apart from a few White Dwarf articles). It was the highlight of the week!
