SDG! Poor old Ivo ( and also Myptic ) have no tool proficiencies. How would I go about getting one of those? I think Ivo would want to be proficient in Calligrapher's Supplies, him being of a certain bookish bent. Could I order a set from Neverwinter and practice with them? Buy a instructional book or something?

I think he'd enjoy stone cutting too, perhaps inadvertently creating Eldritch portals as he decorates around the doorways in Rummage Manor.

You could practice the skill during downtime and pay for a teacher. Baseline time required is ten work weeks, reduced to 8 for Ivo because of his intelligence and it costs 25gp per workweek to learn. At the end of that time, you could add proficiency with the chosen tool to your character sheet.

Alternatively, characters gain an ASI every four levels so at L8 when you're due your next one, you could choose to spend one ASI point on a skill proficiency instead to represent the characters experience growth in that skill. The alternative option to an ASI is choosing a feat and there are some that give you ability increases as well, or tool proficiencies including a Calligrapher feat that I don't think is official content but was released as Unearthed Arcana:
Calligrapher
Through hard work and perseverance, you have become an expert in the art calligraphy. You gain the following benefits:

Increase your Intelligence score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
You gain proficiency with calligrapher's supplies. If you are already proficient with them, you add double your proficiency bonus to checks you make with them.
The amount of time it takes you to write something nonmagical is halved.
You can permanently commit a person's handwriting to memory if you spend at least 8 hours studying it. In the future, you can identify another instance of this handwriting if you examine it for 1 minute. You also recognize forged versions of this handwriting, but discerning whether or not it is a forgery requires further study as normal.

Like ASI, that's only an option every fourth level so L8 would be the next chance.

In terms of downtime, assuming nothing urgent comes up after you've finished helping Gundren you could probably take some downtime in Phandalin to oversee the building of the manor if you wanted and squeeze in some training then.

Lovely, but slight critisisisiisism: you've given the goblin a package whereas we all know they only have cloacas.

The Healing Brainreader Enigmoid Helmet or just Enigmoid for short.

Stretchy Dobbleganger based main blue material with two ear slots to the top and side.

Thorny antennae to assist with the brain reading side of it's awesomeness and general style.

Twin* potion supply points with squirrel intestine delivery tubes.

Barking Spider mascot front and centre, because.

*It's always nicer to share, or have more.

Item created on DnDBeyond! Once it has been crafted, I'll add it to your inventory. https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/2 ... oid-helmet

That helmet would look fantastic when accessorized with a poison-beaming eyepatch made from another, larger eye!

Also, I think that should add 1d4 piercing damage to any headbutts performed whilst wearing it.

He pretty much nailed it, including annoying Dimrill by kill-stealing. Might have been too sensible at points but I can’t blame Dave for that

Yes, will I'm not going to do something character defining with someone else's character, so sensible was always going to be the other of the game.

I know I fangirl about Critical Role a lot but the story they are telling right now, and the character development they’re acting out through random dice rolls and a funny little D&D game is blowing me away. If you haven’t watched it yet you’re missing out. This weeks episode in particular had a resolution to something that had happened with Marisha Ray’s character and the way that Marisha reacted and roleplayed her characters reaction was so authentic and real and perfect and the way Matt (the DM) had some NPC’s react to it as well was how you’d want people to react if it happened in the real world. It was so cathartic and I just love how playing D&D can be silly, and ridiculous, and empowering, and exciting, and sometimes it can be just what you need.

I'm being non committal because I don't have the Healing Brainreader Enigmoid Helmet equipped so I don't know if wife is going to want me to help getting the kids to bed before I play, or if she's going to prefer I make sure I start by 7:30pm to make sure I can finish on time and she can get to bed. I'll ask her and let you know though :)

Yeah I was gonna say i need to get ready for bed straight after as I have an important telephone meeting at 7:45am tomorrow, so that’s good if you can be there at sharp o’clock and a half-sharp
