My group just finished the Lost Mine Of Phandelver. It was my first proper play through of DnD (we started pre-lockdown, before remote DnD got cool).

I play a Chaotic Good bard halfling with a gambling problem, exceptionally poor impulse control, and even poorer taste in men. The DMs sighing at my shenanigans is my applause.

We can switch up since the campaign finished, but I'm attached to this character now. If anyone has a good idea for a backstory I'm all ears.

This. This is the scale to know how well you're doing.

"And then we ram the trousers over the robot's head!"
"Why?!"
"They've got a signal jammer in them!"
"Why would your trousers have..."
"Because it's activated by doing pelvic thrusts in the direction you want to jam, remember?"
"..."

In fact, Doccy G wrote all about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Shadowrun/comm ... _trousers/

I'd forgotten that after the fight Bobby "the slowest-reacting wizard ever" cast silence.

Anyone ever played Paranoia?

In the right group it's glorious.

A naïf: “RPGs are the ultimate collaborative, co-operative games.”

A wise person: “RPGs are a ruthless competition and the winner is the first person to make the GM say ‘fuck you’.”

Simplest way for a GM to get a player to commit to doing something? Respond to their request with "Really?" or "Are you sure you want to do that?"

GMing secret: you only ask this so you can be really mean to them as a result and still have a clear conscience. “Hey, I gave you a chance to back down...”

The reason they had to disable a droid with nothing but Shock Pants was because they had no weapons. That’s because the local crime lord they were supposed to meet to collect gear was pissed at them. That’s because they beat two of his goons to paste. Before they initiated that combat, I asked “are you sure?” And afterward they had to do the rest of the mission without any special equipment or decent guns.

It doesn't count as giving a chance to back down when you know the chance of backing down is below zero.

I challenged a dangerous dragon to a rap battle, convinced a dungeon of goblins I was their ally and walked out with ALL their loot, and wasted one of a few limited questions asking a magical truth telling entity if it had a crush on me.

I also killed a man with my bagpipes. (Out of context DnD quotes?)

There's room for improvement (and pelvic thrusting) but I'm otherwise proud of my first play through.
