I'm saying that it's about working out puzzles together.

I can't really do that what with knowing all the solutions (bar one, which I'm sure we got a lucky bounce for a solution that shouldn't have worked)

I finished the Single Player this morning.

Hit a couple of points where I had to pause and have a pretty big think about what to do next but the puzzles and gameplay is just the right side of frustrating for me. The script and performances however are not something that I can recall has ever been bettered in 30+ years of gaming.

The whole experience has been refined to such an extent that every other developer that rushes out a piece of unfinished shite that has been play tested by morons should be made to sit in a room and replay Portal 2 until they realise the magnitude of their incompetence and throw themselves into an incinerator.

I have now finished single player - it is great.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Jumping into pit when Wheatley asks you to - "Oh wow, thanks, I didn't think that would work."
Anything prefaced by, "Cave Johnson here!"
Crunchy, crumply rooms.
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
Seeing the Moon and instinctively firing at it.
Didn't see Wheatley going mad with power coming, oddly enough.
All the defective turrets. Aw.
Animal King takeover Alert.
The giant potato.
"No, you're jumping."
Glados sounded a bit different - a little more human. Cracking voice work though from all involved. I usually hate Merchant on TV but he was very good in this.

Myps, I'm selling my copy tomorrow as I'll get £28 quid for it from CEX and it only cost me £17 :metul:

I'll hire it from Lovefilm though once you get your copy back

Don't rent it again on my account - remember I've already completed the co-op missions once.

This is one of those games where I get excited when I find out someone else is going to play it, it's that good.

I still haven't co-oped beyond the first set of chambers so if anyone is looking to play then I'm very easy to collar on live (th34lb1n0k1d for those not in the know)

Things Value can't do:

A decent death sequence: why can I look around when I'm dead
A decent death in swampy water: It gets murky, you look around then it reloads
A decent transition between levels: Could we just look around the tube whilst the next level loads instead of looking at the loading screen? It really breaks the fiction.

Other than that, I freakin' love it! :p

I expect it's limitations of their seven year old game engine.

Finished: That was bloody good and I just need to go back to mop up some cheevos I missed. Then onto the co-op. Surely this will secure GlaDOS as one of the greatest video characters created.

Wasn't that something from Half Life 2? I haven't played it myself so I could be wrong.

Quote:
The Borealis is an Aperture Science research vessel introduced in Half-Life 2: Episode Two. According to Isaac Kleiner, Aperture was working on a promising project, but in their rush to beat Black Mesa for funding, they neglected ordinary safety rules and the ship simply disappeared with parts of her drydock, which earned her an almost legendary stature. It is assumed that the Borealis contained an immensely powerful and dangerous secret.

Oh, I found that ship by accident - I didn't even realise it was significant until a Steam cheevo popped up, but then I failed to investigate any further. So now I know!

Episode 1 starts off well, but has some very annoying parts later on. It doesn't work on ATI cards.

Episode 2 starts off well, then gets better, then gets even better, and then finishes with the very best level of the whole series.

I have an extra Episode 1 to give away on Steam. If you want it, it would be my pleasure.

That would be very much appreciated, but you better let me check my PC is up to running it! It managed HL2, so should manage this? Let me check. :)

Edit: Looks as though it can cope, my Steam ID is Bobbyaro. Thank you very much. Why do you have a spare copy, out of interest?

OK, I'm on it. I have an extra, because I bought two different bundles (The Orange Box and some Valve holiday pack) that both contained HL2 and Ep. 1.

I recently deleted some people from my friends list because I had no idea who they were or why I added them in the first place. If they were someone from on here, I'm sorry ... I didn't recognize who you were.

Played this for a bit the other night. LOVED the opening, and basically every bit involving Stephen Merchant.

The puzzles in the first part were all a bit on the dull side, but I suppose they were there for people who hadn't played Portal 1.

I take it that they get a lot more interesting and varied once you're thrown into the thingy by whatsherface? Coz I was getting quite bored by then (apart from the bits with Stephen Merchant.. please tell me he's in it later on as well).

I absolutely loved this game from start to finish. One of my all time top 10 games I think.

And yes, it only gets better and better as you go on. And you absolutely won't be disappointed regarding Stephen Merchant, his part only gets better as well, plus there are other awesome and very atmospheric surprises along the way...
