Yep - you'd both need to be logged into separate Steam accounts anyway, so you'd need a copy on each account!

Thinking about it, I've definitely used my steam account (offline) on multiple PCs to play multiplayer HL2 before, so may be technically, if not entirely legally possible.

Only played an hour or so total, and up to chapter 3. The best word to describe it is "lovely".

Who else is getting the PS3 version? I'll be looking for a co-op buddy at some point. Although I suppose I could do the co-op mode on the PC, thinking about it...

Hopefully my copy of the PC version will have been delivered by now. I wasn't going to pre-order, but a combination of the reviews and wanting to play it before Internet Bastards spoiled the story swayed me. So to sum up: co-op me do!

I'm planning on grabbing the PS3 version in my lunch break today, although I suspect I'll actually play it on the PC for the most part. I take it it is the full PC version you get by purchasing the PS3 one, just one that's tied to the PS3 copy's licence?

I must say that Sony choosing today to take PSN offline for "maintenance" was fantastic forward planning.

Thanks Sony!

Portal 2 get!

Gamestation had two sets of belmers trading DSis for 3DS, and neither could choose a colour to save their lives. I felt like shouting 'It doesn't matter which colour! It'll still give you headaches and make you look mentally disabled while you're playing it!'

Anyway Portal! Can't wait to get home!

Reviewers say 8-10 hours of single player and 5 or so hours of co-op.

Right, fuck PC Gamer's Facebook competition. Cunts. If I win it off them when they finally get around to announcing the winners, someone on here is getting a free copy.

Ironically, I'd be co-opping with you right now if you'd got PS3.

I'm about 1.5 hours in. So far, it's great - the script is particularly awesome.

Disappointed that the co-op is a different, shorty story. I suppose it would have to be though.

Surely it's better? Otherwise you're just playing the same thing through again with someone else.

I've played about half an hour of the single player so far and I'm loving it.

Yeah he's really good in it, is Merchant. The whole thing is superbly written. Genuinely funny with so many subtle jokes thrown in. I reckon a second play through will be in order - at least - to truly soak it all in.

Finished the single-player last night. Effing ACE. Took me 9 hours according to Steam, although I bet a lot of that was standing around waiting to hear all the extra dialogue -- eg. at the very start of Chapter 9, when you're commanded to "Come back", go back and hang around for some bonus funny stuff. And if you want to get a cheevo:

Jump in the pit as instructed.

It's rare that I buy games full-price on release day but I'm glad I did with this (although I won't deny getting it for £24 definitely sweetened the deal).

Finished! Absolutely fantastic. I didn't expect it to be anything but great, and it truly delivered.

Don't read SPLIOZERS until you've finished the story:

Very disappointed with the ending though. We're basically still none the wiser as to what the chuff is going on, what year it is, who you are, and what the connection to the Half-Life universe is other than occasional references to Aperture competing with Black Mesa. Was really hoping for some story explanation. Same as Half-Life 2 it seems - they completely didn't explain fucking ANYTHING. Annoying. Very annoying.

I'm guessing any interaction between the Portal and Half-Life games will happen in HLep3. As they're off to the Aperture Science research vessel and all. Anyway. Awesome way to finish the final boss off. And the turret opera!, 'Moriarty vs Holmes, Aristotle vs Spiked Mashy Plate'. Glados potato.

As to who Chell is... she's Glados's daughter.

Potato GlaDOS has to be one of the greatest things ever, ever! Also, did you look at all the little science projects? The bicarbonate volcano! I love the cute little touches like that in Valve games. Also, all of the pistons and the way the test chambers are dynamically created by little robotic arms and stuff. Magnificent! Truly one of the loveliest, most intricately executed games I've ever played.

This is genuinely the first time in AGES I'm left without even the slightest niggling regret about buying a game at launch. Totally worth it!
