Ooh, text me a photo, too! I can do with cheering up with a nice view.

I'll even go and charge my phone up now.

There was a documentary about Barrow's submarine build a while back. It followed a young, quite pretty apprentice electrician around. Did you find her for me?

You want a photo of Barrow to cheer you up?

I did take a pic of the sunrise over Morecambe bay, when I was eating breakfast in Ulverston

Barrow and Morecambe, you're all down the road.

Yes, always text me pretty pictures :D

They've cut down all the trees at Willy Park. I am heartbroken :( My favourite nice view has gone.

I'm going to a public forum hosted by Ed Balls tonight.

What a great opportunity... but knowing me, I'll probably just sit there, give him the thumbs up and tell him he's doing fantastic.

So, I get in, and a few minutes later, we're all called into a short 'meeting' where idiot boss bollocks us for not doing the reporting to the UKBA properly. "everyone here has done it". Oh er, except that I haven't. Because I wilfully ignore the pointless bullshit I get sent in order to do it above all else, because I'm well aware that if I don't, nobody is there to pick up the slack, and my screwing up could devastate our income.

I don't know why I bother, I really don't.

If it is something you have to do, you have to do it?

Company directives, seems like you don;t do things you don't agree with, which is fine on principle.

Just play the game, you can't fight and win every battle.

They've left about 2ft of each trunk, so it looks like a hill covered in tree stubble. It's terribly ugly. It genuinely made me feel quite upset.

I heat my house using fans, the one I have in the office is a posh square one. I'm merrily reading my book when I smell burning, look down and my small heater shaped fluff dog is about an inch from it and on fucking fire .

"oh fuck" thinks I and dumps tiny rat dog in the nearest available body of water, which happens to be the toilet and she looks up at me like "??? what did you do that for I was nice and warm ???" "BECAUSE ONE WHOLE SIDE OF YOU WAS ON FIRE YOU DUMBASS"

She's fine though (she's a drama queen and lets you know if she ain't), she really is about 80% fur and it got put out before it got to skin, now she's just hiding from me because she's wet.

Heh, I remember when my chef sister once set fire to her boob in the kitchen.

I made some kind of frantic waving/gargling gesture whilst she looked confused at the flickering shape of fire-coloured 'stuff' on her boob before I pulled myself together to rush over and pat out her giant flaming breasts whilst she screamed.

Padded bra saved the day and there was no damage apart from burned foam padding and a ruined top. Silly beggar.

Oh, I know, that's why I just sat there and looked unperturbed, while everyone else looked terrified and contrite. It's at moments like that that I wish I smoked, just so I could have a prop to fiddle with nonchalantly.

It's something I very definitely have to do, and don't mind doing - if I did nothing about it, we would definitely lose our license to recruit international students, and consequently lose millions of pounds per year as well as be completely humiliated and have our strategic wankathon mission (or whatever) shot to pieces. Of course, it's just as important that I spend hours sending copies of unimportant letters to students' supervisors the instant the original is posted, so that they can shred 70% of them without even looking at them. Oh wait.

Anyway, bollocks to this. I'm having some friends over on Saturday to eat, drink, and shoot each other in the head. What food should I have ready?

My sister once did that thing like in Mrs. Doubtfire, where she leant over the oven to do something with her food, and her chebs caught fire. She squealed and flapped about, then smothered the flames with a plate.

Was most amusing. I should probably have helped instead of pointing and laughing, but come on.

Holy shit, I just got positive feedback from my boss. In a formal meeting, no less. Only took 11 months, too! Of course, the context was a critical one.

"You're very good at replying to emails relating to students"... but of course, this is only to provide contrast to what I'm bad at, which is replying quickly to things that aren't to do wimy work.

so... I'm criticised for prioritising doing my job over booking my holidays in a timely fashion, and answering questions like "How are you backlogged from Thursday?" (The least sarcastic answer that came to mind was "because of physics?").

I pointed out that this kind of thing is because I have too many important things to do to prioritise this kind of thing. The response was a bunch of suggetsions about how to colour code messages in my inbox.

I think this is as good as it's going to get here.

Fuck me. The first flat bit was fine. Then it went up a 1:3 slope over gritstone with a river running down it. The downhill was more of a staircase after that. In three hours I pushed more than I rode and going downhill discovered what the gritstone had done to my brakes.

The riding position needs work, and dropping the pre-load on the suspension will help. New brakes, too. And a better map. After living so long in flat Oxford these hills killed me, more to do with terrain and not being able to find a rhythm than fitness. Honest. The 18 mile route is clearly a day ride...

Sorry, wrong thread.

OK, so I'm helping someone, in a limited way, with ideas and stuff for his Community Interest Company. The prototypal site is being hosted by moonfruit at the moment, which, err, I don't think is that good a system to use, from what I gather. But then, it's just a local start-up at the moment, not even officially launched, so my suggestion of self-hosting is rather premature, perhaps?

GMail is pretty straightforward to get working with a self-bought domain name, incidentally? The domain name is reg'ed with 123-reg, but 123-reg's own subscription webmail is not being deemed sufficient.

"Please look into this. Don't reply to anyone involved - just get back to me."

"Okay. The problem is with finance - x, y, and z."

"Can I assume you are making the needed amendment?"

"There's nothing I can do. It's a finance issue."

"I’ll reworded the questions to “have we contacted finance to make to correction?”" [sic]

I have not the words.

Least sarcastic response that comes to mind: "You told me not to contact anyone else. For some reason."

"Have we"? Gawd, just hateful. HATEFUL.

You mean "would I?" Why not just ask?
