Decoupage? Fabric?

I think that might be a bit too ‘craft-y’ for such a large piece of furniture that dominates the room. I might try the paint idea in an inconspicuous area... The problem is... the whole thing is a bit conspicuous!

I totally envisioned you covering it in Animal crossing characters. :D

Yes, Darwin and I went over for half an hour this afternoon. And there were (some) curtain rails! Some they’ve taken, some they’ve left. I’m going to take the stepladder next time and start pulling all the hooks out of the walls.

Whoop!

I’ve fitted those silly little battery clock mechanisms to things before. Do you mean that?

Finally got the ceiling finished. I was a labour of love having to keep moving the ladders around. The taller one hurt my feet and I don't like heights!

Now to get the walls sorted.

Well, I could find wardrobes online that didn’t go with anything m, and I didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money on something that didn’t go with any of our stuff, so at least I’m not spending money on ugly wardrobes, but... is there any way to improve these? Can you just buy wardrobe doors? Would that be cost effective? Is there any way of painting/covering this weird material?

There’s a Facebook group called Frenchic fan forum full of people who’ve refurbished old 70’s furniture and made it look really stunning with this chalk paint, or by peeling off the laminate and then painting. I’d recommend looking there for some inspiration.

I’m not sure to be honest because I’ve not used them. The colours are lovely but they seem to be very well regarded for how easily and smoothly they apply and how far it goes. It definitely looks like they’re used for a lot more than say Annie Sloan paint is.

I think there are a few reasons, but I'm not an expert. I know that they are supposedly made without chemicals, so much better for us and the environment. What clinched it for me was the option to use them on multiple surfaces. E.g. glass, wood, metal plastic. They really do go a long way too, I painted our UPVC front door using just a tester pot. It gave me enough for two coats, plus some touching up and I have some left over. I've just ordered some to do the garage door when the weather improves too.

Oh that was the other thing for me, they do a range that is suitable for outdoors, and I was able to see real life examples of people using it from the people that posted in the FB group that SDG mentioned. :)

If I don't move house this year I think I'll paint my front door. I nearly did it last year but I couldn't choose a colour.

Just have a go, if you don't like it you can always paint over it - that's what I'm going to do this year. They didn't have the colour in a really wanted, so I chose something close just to get it done and to have a go and see how it turned out. Now I'm happy that it works okay I'm going to do the front door and garage door to match. I'm not aware of any other paint range that would allow me to paint both metal and plastic with the same paint.

I don't think you could do it in this weather, I think it has to be 10 degrees or so. I think I did it in September last year. I'll wait until at least spring to do it again. You could easily have a different colour every year. :)

At the moment, I have a half painted garden fence so I should probably make sure I can do it all in one sitting or I'll end up with a patchwork door.

It probably took me an hour to get the first coat on including prep work (door furniture off, sugar soap, frog tape). Then about 30 mins to do the second coat. I think I left about an hour between coats. It was done in an afternoon. :)

Hi folks,

I want to put a light bulb in D’s room, but I want a very specific light bulb (https://www.dunelm.com/product/status-4 ... 1000156414 ).

However, he has a bayonet fitting in his ceiling. I’d like to change it to a screw fitting. What would I need to buy to do that?

You can buy doodabs like this, much easier than replacing the whole fitting https://www.amazon.co.uk/SOCKET-CONVERT ... B001DNCAOC

That might be the wrong way round though, but they make ones that go both ways

I'd just buy a new Pendant. You don't need to swap the whole thing, just the cord and fitting

I think I will get a new pendant. Much as the lazy part of me wants to use Squirt’s much simpler solution, The more I think about it I guess if I’m going to put a shade-less bulb in his room I should make the fitting at least a half decent one.

I fitted a new bath in my bathroom (where else?!?) the other day and it looks like I've gained a new hobby.

Checking under the bath after every shower to make sure it's not leaking. I imagine I'll keep this up for around 6 months or so.
