Well, me and Joans have got the week off to try and get as much house stuff as possible done. This is currently my view from the back of the car.

Getting the decorating done has spurred us on to finish loads of other little bits we'd started or bought stuff to do, but not. Last weekend I put the nice wooden strip across the kitchen doorway, to join the living room carpet to the kitchen wooden floor.

Obviously, the joiner hadn't taken such a thing into account when he fitted the new door - so today I bought a plane and cut it down a mm or two so it doesn't catch. I've even still got all my fingers!

When does my "Proper DIYer" certificate arrive?

Frustrating how little we've got done today. Flooring is down though, hopefully get the skirting finished tomorrow too.

Hmmm, leaky radiator. Not a big deal to replace, but it seems to be in some bonkers size hardly anyone makes any more. 450 x 1300? Gah!

Also, I have boring old manual valves. Is it worth taking this chance to replace with thermostatic ones?

DIY incoming! I'm about to start mashing out some interior walls so that a man can come round and glue plastic to them for damp proofing. This is going to get messy...

Curses, forgot to take a before picture! this is part way through, we removed the plasterboard that was nailed to that studding you see on the left by cutting a nice neat line through it with *someones* lovely sabre saw, then mashed it with big hammers until it was gone. that was easy enough and the stud can stay put because you can get your hand behind it to fit damp proof membrane.

the wall on the right was less fun however as that was plastered straight onto a rubble wall, we had to chip away at the plaster without making holes into next door's living room!
Attachment:
WP_20130223_005.jpg

Nice straight line (sabre saw!) and you can see the new plaster, old plaster and ancient plaster all layered up like one of them diagrams of the earth. what are they called?
Attachment:
WP_20130223_004.jpg

The downstairs WC was stud as well but as it is part of the extension the stud work was right up against the brick so had to come out. Also it was pretty soggy! We took out a toilet and a sink cabinet and stuck them in the shed for now, had to fit new ball valves to the sink's tap pipes which involved hilarious spraying water action!

Great stuff Krazywookie!

Makes my attempts at putting up flatpack today look extremely amateur.

I have a nice new sideboard, but when assembling a dining chair I put the wrong thing in the wrong hole (as the bishop said to the actress) so will have to try to rectify that tomorrow.

Man arrived and fitted damp proofing to bare walls and put up plaster, he is coming back tomorrow to finish... at 7.30am!

He called me in the morning to ask where I had hidden the key, one day you should have a go at explaining to a polish man with very little English that the key is under the golden owl in the ornament garden!

Hello.

Anybody good enough at DIY to recognise types of hinge?

Part of one of the hinges on the corner cupboard kitchen unit has sheared off, so the door has had to come off temporarily.

What might I search for online to find a replacement? I tried corner cupboard hinges but there seem to be loads. eBay, for example, has 45 degree, 135 degree and 175 degree hinges. I'm at a bit of a loss.

Yes, near Ikea. And yes, Russell be working as my tea-lady. It's the rule.

And I want to go home and dive under the duvet, which is why I also don't want to go after work on Saturday :(

If I have to, I will, but right now I need some warmth and tlc after work, and I find going to B&Q stressful.

I'm not ill. Just having a bit of a sad time at work. They keep shifting the whole department around, so there's no chance to feel settled, and the one person I liked has been made to leave a couple of days ago, leaving me with a vacant desk, feeling isolated and to pick up loads of extra work, especially as the manager is away.

I'm just under the weather in that regard. Can't knit, read or concentrate and feel worn down like an old teddy bear.

Ah, its probably the rubber washer thing inside gone wrong. Not sure but I think it might be a tap washer? Any way should be able to unscrew it and have a look inside. With the water off of course ;)
