Such as? Every time they go on about there being an 'assault' in the ring, it's not actually a crime, because a) both parties have signed off on it, and b) it's staged.

You're confusing something that appears to be a crime with something that actually is a crime. Jericho kicking that flag was a criminal offense in Brazil, whether he was acting a bad guy role or not.

I'm not confusing anything with anything. Crimes outside of the ring, running people down with cars, blatantly corrupt people in charge of a publicly traded company, assassination attempts, etc etc. All are 'crimes', and they stage them all the time.

That kicking a flag can actually be a crime is both hilarious and horribly repulsive, especially in one of the murder capitals of the world. That is one part of what I am saying.

The second is that WWE is staged. It is utterly illogical for any fan to get incensed about the actual person performing their role and want them suspended; it's the same as a person getting mad at a soap opera actor because his character killed someone. I am fully aware that kicking a flag is a 'real' offence, but as I said before, if it was filmed for TV somewhere I am sure they wouldn't prosecute the actor. Maybe they should have got dispensation or something. That doesn't change my mind that it's an utterly ridiculous thing to threaten to charge someone with.

Correct. Key word being 'stage'.

Sure. But you said "people commit crimes all the time in WWE". What I'm saying is that no, they don't. Kicking a flag is a crime in Brazil. That wasn't staged - he actually did commit the crime. The fact that it's a moronic law doesn't change the fact that it's a law.

I'm struggling with that comparison, solely because I can't think of anything that's a crime in this country that you would actually do for real, rather than faking, while filming. I'll keep thinking.

I don't dispute that at all. It's a stupid law. My ire is directed towards the law, and the people offended by such a thing (the reports I read said that the crowd were hostile, more than they would be for a heel act).

In terms of things you can do that are real crimes, in the context of TV... racism, incitement to riot, etc. Having a racist character air their views could be considered to be somewhere in that area.

Alternatively, you could go to anywhere something is censored and do that.

I know it was an actual crime. It's still fucking ridiculous.

Post subject:  Re: Rasslin'

I entirely agree that the law is an ass. But you said Brazil thinks wrestling is real. And I'm not about to stand idly by while someone casts into doubt Brazil's ability to determine the legitimacy of its grapz! :)

Post subject:  Re: Rasslin'

Again, purely from reading a report shortly after it happened, it said that people were up in arms about it. If they were, then they can't distinguish it. If they think the actual man hates Brazil and wants to kick the flag, and not just because he's a heel, then they are big sillies.

If, however, the reports were wrong, and nobody got at all upset and it was just a jobs worth police type forcing it while nobody in the arena cared, then fair play to 'em.

Smoking indoors, but there's a part written into the law to make it okay if you're "staging a performance".

Okay, here's a better one - promoting racial hatred, or whatever it's called. Someone playing a racist person spouting racist stuff on the TV is technically breaking the law, surely? Even if he/she doesn't believe the words coming out of their mouths?

It is a pity Traitch will probably never get his comeuppance.

Quote:
During Dave Meltzer's radio show for The Wrestling Observer, he reported that Paul "Triple H" Levesque is not allowing Mick Foley to be used on TV since his return in November.

Meltzer reported that Triple H slams Foley whenever his name is brought up in creative meetings. Brian Gerwitz, WWE's Senior Vice President of Creative Writing thinks Foley is a creative and good performer, but Levesque says Foley 'doesn't look tough' and can't be taken seriously as an in-ring performer.

A former WWE creative writer said to Power Slam in 2008 that Levesque would always insult Foley when he appeared for the company and hurt his value in the eyes of Vince and Stephanie McMahon.

Levesque was quoted as saying: "Foley is an out-of-shape nobody. No one cares about him at all. Funaki puts more asses in the seats than Foley does. He should pay us for coming on our shows."

It is believed that the reason Triple H does this is because he is irritated over the opinion from his closest co-workers that his matches with Foley in 2000 "made him a star".

Wasn't one a standing corkscrew shooting star press? Anyway, Sara Del Ray would be the pick of that bunch... If Vince had a clue what to do with women who can actually wrestle. Brodie Lee is also very good. I've not seen much of PAC, he seems a bit needlessly flippy to me, though his tiger suplex is very nice. No way in hell WWE let's him use that often.
